Hi all I am stopping by to introduce myself and hopefully gain some support. This has been a huge week for us. Our son Thomas (2 years 8 months) has been diagnoised with Aspergers (High functioning). We are releived and yet overwhelmed by this. There is so much information being thrown at us now and it tough getting my head around it.
We took him to the Paedtricin (They are a specialist here) with the hopes of getting a sensory processing disorder diagnoised and was surprised slightly by this diagnoisis. The main reason we took him was becuase his behaviour and violent outbursts were getting out of control. He has also started having a speach regression (In the nice way to say it, he has started talking and singing like a seagull). We now just have to get past all the paperwork phase and then the waiting list phase and get into EI programes for him now.
It's overwhelming I know! Our oldest was diagnosed when he was nearly 3 1/2 and non-verbal. We had constant meltdowns, stimming etc going on and had no idea he had autism. We've been on an integrative path with him for almost 2 years now. It's incredible! He went from non-verbal to talking and then reading at a 3rd grade leve in just a matter of a few months. May I suggest you look into DAN (defeat autism now) and see ifyou can find a doc in your area. Ours has been a lifesaver. Between the diet change and supplements our son is a different person. We still deal with regression when he's sick, a few meltdowns here and there and some stimming but it's NOTHING like it was. Early intervention is key! I wish you all the best and if you have any questions about all this...feel free to PM me!!
Thanks, we now have him enrolled in an Early intervention play group (one day a week) and he is seeing a speach therapist and OT. Right now we are dealing with the dreaded cold and flu season so it has been very intresting week.
