For Katie

9-17-2007

Wow she is here I can't believe it. It seems just like yesterday that I found out we were pregnant.

Katherine Elizabeth was born September 12th 2007 at 12:59 pm. She weighed 7 pounds and 2.9 ozs. She was 19 and a half inches long.

I had a drug free natural childbirth and a wonderful pregnancy. Only problems were gestational diabetes which I controlled with my diet. I gained only 24 pounds total. Apgars at birth were 9 and 9. Fred was a great coach through the labor and delivery. Just when I thought that I could not love him anymore he becomes the proudest father. He has been so helpful since I have been home from the hospital.

Katie came on a Wednesday. Thursday and Friday were spent at the hospital and we came home Friday afternoon. We had lot of visitors in the hospital. Lots of people from work came by and all the grandparents were so happy.

Breastfeeding is going well. The doctor was concerned that Katie had lost some weight so before we left the hospital the lactation specialist came and talked to us. She taught me how to pump and then cup feed Katie. So when we came home I was trying to feed Katie every two hours and then pumping and giving her some milk in a cup. She just could not seem to stay awake for her feeds. So of course I was concerned that she would lose more weight and I would have to give her formula which I really don't want to have to do.

So Saturday and Sunday we were pretty busy trying the feed Katie the best we could.
Wednesday was 7lbs 2.9ozs
Thursday was 6lbs 15ozs
Friday was 6lbs 9.3ozs
Saturday was 6lbs 9ozs.
We went to the ped today and Katie was up to 6lbs 12ozs, so thats a 3 oz gain since Friday, so the doc was happy about that. She was concerned that we were still having to cup feed since she was so sleepy at the breast. She made us an appt to see the LC today also.

We went to see them and they weighed her then I feed her. She ate for about 10 mins, her normal, then fell asleep. She ate 1.5ozs out of one breast, which is really good. Then we put her on the other breast and she ate half an oz before falling asleep. So the LC told me that was great and to keep up feeding her every 2 to 3 hours and I can stop pumping and doing the cup feeding for now.

We are going back to the ped on Friday for another weight check. The LC were so nice and told me if I had any more concerns to just give them a call and they would help, they also want me to call on Friday with her weight to see if we need to do anything different.

I thought it was so neat that they can weigh the baby before and after a feeding to see how much they ate.

So I feel a lot better about how things are going with the breastfeeding now.

She is just the sweetest baby and I am so in love with her. She is so cute and I can't believe she is ours.

Well Katie is a week old already, today was my actual due date. I thought it was time to write up my birth story.

September 12th, the day I will never forget and one of the happiest in my life. I had to work 7 to 1 that day and then I had a doctors appt at 2:30. I woke up before the clock went off, about 5:30 with some contractions but I really didn't think it was the real thing because I had been having some BHs in the days before. I lied there and tried to time them to see if they were regular but they really were not. So at 6 I got up and got dressed for work. I didn't tell Fred about the contractions since I thought that they would just go away like they had before.

I got to work at 6:45 and still was having them so I started to write down the times they were coming. Then I went to the bathroom about 8:30 and had some bloody show. So I started to get excited and thought this really might be it. Luckily I work at the hospital that I was delivering at, so I went and asked my friend Stephanie if she wanted to take a trip up to OB with me.

So we walked upstairs and went back to L&D. I told them I was having some contractions so they took me into a room and I changed into a gown while they went to get my records. I wanted to hold off on calling Fred until I knew for sure this was it. They came in and hooked me up to the monitors and saw that I was having some regular contractions. About 9 they checked me and I was already at 4cm so today was going to be the day. I called Fred and told him he needed to come to the hospital that he was going to become a daddy today. I also called my mom.

Right after I called Fred Dr. W came in and broke my water. There really was not much that came out. Then the nurse came in and started my IV since I am GBS positive and had to get antibiotics. They also drew some blood. Then about 9:30 my mom got there and Fred and his mom were right behind her. I was already having to use some breathing to make it through the contractions at this point.

I was starting to really get uncomfortable at this point so I went into the bathroom and sat on the toilet which actually helped. About 10:30 they came in and hung the antibiotics. I continued to labor well with my breathing and such. Fred was such a great coach. Around 11 I was really having some good contractions so they came a checked me again and I was already at 7cm. The nurse said she could not believe I was a first time mom going so fast. The nurse was great and in the beginning asked me how I wanted to manage pain. I was always said that I was not totally against pain medications or epidurals but I wanted to really try to go all natural. I also knew if I could make it to 7cm that I was almost there. She never once asked me if I wanted pain meds.

So now I was really hurting and Fred was right there in my face telling me to breath and keeping me concentrated. I felt like I was losing control and I could not handle it. He was so reassuring and kept telling me I was almost there and I could do it. I started to get the urge to push about 12:30. They came in and checked me again and I was at a 10.

It felt so good to be able to push. So they had me push a few times to see how I would do. They said the baby was down low and it would not take long. They had to continue to push with the contractions and about 12:45 Dr. A came in. I kept pushing with all my might. Then at 12:59 pm Katherine Elizabeth entered the world. The doc asked Fred if he wanted to cut the cord, which he did not so I cut it myself. I could not believe that she was here. Her apgars were 9 and 9. They lied her on my chest for a while then took her to clean her and assess her. I had a small episiotomy that the doc repaired. The antibiotics were not in my system long enough so they also had to take some blood from Katie.

They brought her back to me and we put her on the breast. The nurse went and got my mom and mother in law. I felt so much better and I was so proud of myself for going drug free and all natural. The nurses could not believe that I went drug free, evidently I was the talk of the day. I could not have done it without Fred's support. I have never had such a exciting experience in my life. I feel so blessed.

Katie is 9 days old today. We went for her doctors appt this morning. It went very well, her weight is up to 7lbs 2ozs which is in the 50%. The doctor was very pleased with how much she had gained and the fact that she was just breastfeeding with no supplements at all. She was 20 1/2 inches long which is in the 75%, head was 35 which is in the 50%.

The breastfeeding is going much better, still a little sore but not too bad really. I am so thankful that it is going well. I really wanted it to work out since it is the best thing for her. I feel so blessed that Katie is happy and healthy. I just thank God everyday.

Fred went back to work today. I am really going to miss him being here. He has been such a big help. It just makes me fall in love with him everytime he kisses Katie. He is already such a loving father. I just love him so much.

Katie is 11 days old and her cord stump fell off last night. Yeah I can give her a real bath and now we don't have to worry about messing with that cord. I am feeling pretty tired lately. She is eating about every 2 hours during the night so its hard. She eats then I change her and she goes right back to sleep though. I am only up for about 20 or 30 minutes at a time but it is tiring. She is such a good baby, she normally only cries when she is hungry.

Katie is 2 weeks and 2 days old now. We have had a few trying days this week. She was so fussy and crying a lot and it makes me feel horrible because I just don't know what to do to make her feel better. We had a good day yesterday and today has been great. Its just when she is crying it makes me upset too. This week we have been trying to get on more of a schedule. I think she was just snacking a lot and not really getting full so we have been breastfeeding every 3 hours and it seems to be helping a lot. She now eats for longer and she has also been sleeping more at night. I have been feeding her on a 9, 12, 3 and 6 schedule. She has been waking up at night right on time the last 2 nights.

She is just the sweetest baby and I just want what is best for her. We have been going for walks around the neighborhood as well. I am finally getting brave enough to take her out. We all 3 went out to eat last night for the first time. She slept the whole time. I just love her so much.

Katie is 3 weeks and 2 days old. I can't believe it has already been 3 weeks. We are doing pretty well. Katie seems to have a fussy period in the evenings. Fred has been so helpful when he gets home from work. Last night we gave her a bottle of breastmilk for the first time. She did well with it. She has to get used to taking a bottle for when I go back to work. We have also been walking in the mornings with my friends at the park. It is nice to get out and exercise.

Wow Katie is 4 weeks old today. Time has went by so fast. I went and got her pictures made today for the first time. She did pretty good for a while then started getting cranky. I can't wait to see them. They took one pose of her with just her diaper on. It is so cute.

She is still doing good. Sleeping for 2-3 hours at a time. She is still getting her fussy period in the evenings. I have been putting her in her crib to sleep about 9pm each night. A few times she has slept for 4 hours when I put her down at night. I think thats good for a 4 week old.

I can tell she has gotten bigger already too. Her clothes are not as baggy and she is heavier. We go back to the doctor on Monday. She is just the sweetest thing. Sometimes when she is nursing she gets the a smile on her face that just melts my heart.

Katie is now 1 month and 4 days old. We had her 1 month doctor appt yesterday. She is up to 9 pounds and 4 ozs, 21 1/2 inches long. Her head is 37 1/2 cm. The doctor said everything was looking well. She also got her second Hep B shot. Her baby acne is still there and the doctor said we can put a little hydrocortisone 1% on it to help it but it will go away on its on soon. I asked her about Katie lying with her head to the right a lot and she said we can do these neck exercises to help her stretch her neck muscles. We also are going to start a vitamin D supplement everyday. The doctor said breastfeed babies need it.

She is still doing well with getting a bottle everyother day. We went to visit my dad and grandmother this past Sunday. My grandmother was so excited to see Katie. Things seem to be going well with my dad also. He was so happy to see us. He just held Katie and talked to her. It was very cute.

I am feeling very tired still. Katie is getting up every 2 to 3 hours during the night and it is wearing me out. I am only up for 15 to 20 minutes but I am still tired. I have to go to the doctor next week for my 6 week post partum appt.

Katie is 6 weeks old now. I went and picked up her pictures we had made when she was a month old and it is amazing that she has already changed since then. The pictures turned out great. I also started to make my scrapbook.

I went and had my doctors appt this week. Everything is good and almost back to normal. I also went and had a flu shot like Katie's ped recommended.

Katie is doing well this week also. She still has her fussy period in the evenings. I am still feeding her every 3 hours or so. Hopefully she will extend that sometime. I am so pleased at how breastfeeding is going. I am so proud of myself that we have not had to supplement with formula at all and that all the growing she is doing is because of mommy's milk.

I swear she is just the cutest thing I have ever seen. She is starting to smile more and more and it just melts my heart. She is changing before my eyes and it is amazing. I thank God everyday that he blessed us so much.

Katie is 7 weeks old now. We dressed her up as a bear for her very first halloween. We just sat around the house and gave out candy to the kiddos. We did walk around and show Katie off to all the neighbors. They all said she was so cute. Everyone always comments on her hair, how much she has and how it sticks up.

I took Katie to see Dr. M today to get her ears checked since she failed on her left ear in the hospital. Everything checked out fine and they said her hearing was perfect. I had to breastfeed her so they could do the hearing test without her crying. I am so glad that she is fine. The doctor said she probably failed her hearing test in the hospital because she was crying or moving around too much.

Katie is 2 months old today. I can't believe how fast the time is going.

She had her 2 month appt today. The doctor said she was doing fantastic. She weighed 11 lbs 6 ozs and was 23 inches long. Both in the 75%. Her head was 39cm, 50%. We asked the doctor about her refusing to take a bottle and she said to keep trying and she would take the bottle when she got hungry enough. I sure hope so.

Her cradle cap is still there and the doctor said it will eventually go away. She seemed really pleased with how Katie was picking her head up and smiling. She said she was right on schedule and that Fred and I were doing an excellent job with her.

Katie also had to get her shots. She got a DTaP, Hib, Polio, PCV and a rotavirus oral solution. I gave it a lot of thought about weather or not to do the vaccines but if the doctor recommends it then I trust them. I also think the benefits outweigh the risk of the vaccines.

Her next appt is at 4 months old. I just can't believe how fast she is growing. She is smiling a lot and holding her head up very well. She follows us around the room with her eyes. I am also so proud of myself for reaching the 2 month mark of breastfeeding.

Katie is now 10 weeks old and we have thrush. I noticed a white spot on the side of her cheek on Saturday and her tongue was more white than normal and then yesterday it was not any better. It had more white spots on her cheeks and her tongue looked worse so this morning I called the doctors office and we went in. One look and she said yep its thrush. So now we are doing nystatin 4 times a day for Katie and nystatin cream for me 4 times a day. I hope that it gets better quickly.

I have to go back to work in 2 weeks and I am so sad about it. On a happier note, Katie is smiling more and doing tummy time more. She is getting her strong with holding her head up. I think she will roll over soon. She is also starting to make baby sounds and it is so cute. She was 12 and a half pounds at the doctors this morning. I can't believe how big she is getting.

Katie is 2 and a half months old. Her thrush is better, it only took a few days but I am going to keep doing the medicine until tomorow. The big news is that she slept for 8 hours last night. She went to bed at 9 and slept until 5 then she ate and slept until 8. I am so proud of her and I hope it keeps up. I had some huge boobs this morning though but its worth it for the sleep.

Katie is 2 months, 3 weeks and 3 days old and she laughed for the very first time today. It was just the sweetest sound in the whole world. She giggled at me when I was making faces at her. I even called Fred at work so he could hear her. Oh my goodness I never knew someone laughing could bring me such joy. This little girl has got my heart.

Katie will be 3 months old tomorrow. Wow.

I went back to work on Sunday night, it was hard to leave her. Of course I am just leaving her with Fred but it was still hard. I was not at all worried about leaving her with him, I was worried about me. They did great and Fred called me when he got her to sleep and when he got up to feed her. It made me feel a lot better. I had never been away from her that long since she was born.

I thought that the thrush was gone but it looks like it is back again. We have been doing the Nystatin but it does not seem to be looking any better so I am going to try a little different treatment.

So I have been back at work 2 weekends now. Katie is still not doing very well with the bottle but I have come to the conclusion that she will eat when she is hungry. She is sleeping very well too. She slept for 8 hours lat night, woke up to eat and slept another 3 and a half hours. I am so proud of her and happy for me.

I started giving her probodics for her thrush and it seems to be helping a lot. The white spots in her cheeks are almost all the way gone.

She is giggling and making baby sounds a little more. I can't wait until she laughs a lot. I can't believe how fast she is growing up. We put her in the walker for a few minutes the other day and she seems to like it. She is not really big enough for it yet but it will not be long.

Katie had her very first Christmas. She got lots of toys and clothes from everyone. We went and saw Freds side of the family Christmas Eve since I had to work Christmas night. Then we went to Mimi's house Christmas morning.

We put her in her jumparoo for the first time today and she really liked it. She is holding her head up so well now. She is laughing and smiling all the time. Her schedule is kind of getting messed up when I have to work because she is still not taking the bottle very well. I hope since I had to work three nights this week we can get her back on track. She slept for 8 hours the other night again. It was great. She had went back to sleeping 6 hours so we will see what happens. I don't really mind at all getting up with her because she just eats and then goes right back to sleep.

She is just the sweetest thing in the whole world and she just makes me so happy. Fred said the other day that he doesn't know how I get anything done during the day while watching her. I think since I have been working nights he appreciates what I do way more. He said he is so busy taking care of her he can't do anything else. It made me feel really good.

So I am depressed. I cleaned out some of Katie's clothes that don't fit anymore and took some out of new clothes that are 3-6 months. I was so sad to put the little clothes away. I can not believe how fast she is growing. The little onesies are so sweet and I hate boxing them up. Don't get me wrong I love that she is healthy and growing but it is so sad to me.

She is 14 weeks already. I just don't want her to grow up to fast. I want to enjoy her at every stage of her life. I just don't want time to go to fast. 2007 is the year of Katie. I just don't want to miss anything that happens in her life. I feel so special that she is our daughter and I want her to have everything she wants in life.

I just love her so much. Words can not explain this love I have for this child. She is just the sweetest baby in the whole world. Fred and I are just in love with her.

So I have been trying to make good sleep habits at night. I have been putting her in her crib while she is awake but drowsy and it really seems to be working great. I also have been trying to move her bedtime up a little from 9 to closer to 8:30. Last night I feed her at 8 and then changed her and wrapped her up in her blanket. We don't put her arms in it anymore but I like the way it wraps around her bottom half so she can't kick it off in the night. I rocked her for about 3 minutes and she was really awake and I thought I would try to put her down. So I put her in her crib and walked out. I could not believe it, she went to sleep. About 45 minutes later she was fussing a bit but we did not go in her room and in a few minutes she went back to sleep. I am so proud of her and I hope it keeps up.

She is just doing so well. All this week she has been waking up after 6 hours to eat but thats alright. She always eats and then goes right back to sleep. So I have been getting up at 3am and then around 6am for another feed and then she sleeps till 9am. I think that is really good.

Her skin is not so good though. Her chest has such dry skin and sometimes it is red. So I tried to just wash her in plain water with no soap to see if that would help. Now her skin is just flaky. I didn't put any lotion on it either. I am going to try that for a week or so and see if it changes any. I am going to ask the doctor about it when we go for her 4 month appt too. It doesn't seem to bother Katie at all but it looks just awful to me.

We had Katie's 4 month appt today. It went pretty good. She weighed 14 lbs 13 ozs, in the 75%. She was 24 1/2 inches long, between 50% and 75%. Her head was 42 cm, in the 75%. She got her shots today too. She got a DTaP, Hib, Polio, PCV and a rotavirus oral solution. I hate the shots but I still think the benefits outweigh the risk.

The doctor seemed like of surprised that we were still 100% breastfeeding. She asked if we wanted to start cereal yet and I said no. She was fine with that and she that if we wanted to start before her 6 month appt to just call and they will give us some guidence about it.

Katie is 4 months, 2 weeks and 5 days old. I can't believe how fast she is growing, it is really sad to me. I just want to enjoy everything and the days are flying by. She is a little rollie pollie now. She is still just rolling to one side but now we can't keep her on her tummy. She has also been sleeping so well. The last week she has been sleeping 10 hours at night, yea for us. Whoever said breastfed babies don't sleep as long never met Katie. We are still waiting until around 6 months to start solids. I am in no hurry to start, it is just so easy to breastfeed. She weighs like 15 pounds so she is definetly eating enough. She even has little wrist rolls now. She has been hopping all around in her jumperoo. She is starting to shreak when she is excited and happy. She is just the sweetest thing in the world.

Almost 5 months old already, wow. Katie is growing so fast. She loves to suck on her thumb and is starting to grab things with her hands and hold them. She is rolling over from her stomach to her back both ways, although we still have to help her by putting her arms underneth her. She is making all sorts of noises and has learned how to scream now. She is just the funniest thing in the world. She is sleeping for 10 hour stretches at night then eating and sleeping until 830 or 9 most mornings. We have not started solids yet and I want to wait until around 6 months. She is growing great. She has the cutest little fat rolls on her thighs and now around her wrist too. Its the only time fat rolls are cute, she better enjoy this time. Fred is such a good daddy and just loves her to pieces. They play every night when he gots home from work. She is a lot to take care of every day but I am really enjoying my time with her.

Katie is 5 and a half months old. She is getting so big. She is grabbing her toys and trying to cram them in her mouth. I am pretty sure her first two bottom teeth are on their way. She is drooling everywhere and she has been crabby at times. She is just screaming to hear herself, which is funny but she is loud. She is also chewing on everything. I can't believe how much she has changed in such a short time. I will be glad when it gets warm weather so we can go outside more.

Almost 6 months old. I can't believe how fast things are going. It seems like Katie is doing something new everyday now. She can pick up her toys and put them in her mouth. She picks them up and looks at them and drops them. She is smiling lots and laughing a lot. She is just the cutest thing in the world. She has been doing so well with badtime. We have been putting her in her crib awake around 8 and she sleeps until 6, wakes up and eats and then goes back to sleep until 730 or 8. I think sleeping for 10 hours straight is excellant. She is still sucking her thumb when she gets mad or sleepy. It is her biggest comfort. She has been grabbing our faces when we talk to her. I think she is getting pretty close to sitting up on her own and rolling from her back to her tummy. Her nap time has been getting easier for the most part, unless she is really tired or cranky. I think I have learned more. She was playing her little piano the other day, just banging on the keys. I am actually getting pretty excited about feeding her solids when she turns 6 months. We have almost made it to 6 months with nothing but breastmilk, not a drop of formula. I have to say I am very proud of myself.

So Wednesday evening in honor of Katie turning six months old we started her on some rice cereal. She did very well with it and I think she really liked it. She seemed to do even better with it last night. What a big girl she is. We go for her six month doctor appt on Monday. She has also found her feet in the last few days. She is just the sweetest baby.

Katie had her 6 month check up yesterday. She weighted 17 lbs and 1 oz, in the 75%. Her length was 27 1/2 inches, 95% and head was 44cm, 90%. The doctor said she was very happy with how we were doing. She also got some shots, DTaP, her third Hepatitis B and PCV. She also got her last rotavirus oral solution.

We told her that we just started rice cereal last week and she gave us some guidence on how to procede with the rest of her foods. Overall she was very pleased with her growth and said she was very healthy.

She didn't even cry when they did her shots this time. I was surprised. She also took a 2 hour nap after the appt. She is such a big girl and I could not be happier.

So Katie is a little over 6 months old now and she is sitting up on her own now. She can sit up all by herself for a few minutes before she falls over. I can't believe how fast she is developing right before my eyes. She is doing great on the rice cereal, she seems to really like it. I was also sad yesterday because I went through her clothes and got out her summer clothes and took out all her winter clothes that are too small. She is just getting so big so fast.

Katie is almost 7 months old already. She is doing great. She is sitting up all by herself for long periods of time and playing with her toys. She is scooting around on her tummy but no crawling yet. Lately she is loving looking at herself in the mirror. She just squeals and laughs at her reflection or at pictures of herself or other babies. Its the funniest thing. She is grabing her toys and moving them from hand to hand and she is getting such better control. I think she is saying "mama". She says "mamamamama" but I am not sure she is directing it at me. She is just talking all the time now. We also started giving her other foods, she has had sweet potatoes and green beans so far. She is doing well with them.

Katie is 7 months, one week old. She is "talking" lots. She is saying mama, it is so sweet. She is really enjoying sitting in the floor and playing with her toys. She still loves to look at herself or other babies. We went to the YMCA and got in the pool for the first time. She loved it, she kept splashing and kicking her legs. She would splash the water in her face and keep on playing. We are going to start a mommy and me baby swim class. I am excited about that. She seems to really love the water, which makes me very happy. When I work out at the Y she has been going to the childwatch program they have, so far she has done very well. I was nervous about that because she has never been to any type of daycare or anything. It was really nice to get some "me" time and be able to not have to worry about her. I just can't believe how much she is grown and how much I love her. She is also doing well with solids. She has now had sweet potatoes, green beans, peas, squash and bananas. She seems to like everything we give her.

Katie is 7 months, 3 weeks and 2 days old today and she got her very first tooth. It is her bottom left tooth and boy is it sharp. She ran a fever yesterday so I guess it was from the tooth. She has never had a temp before so I was nervous about that. You could just tell that she did not feel well. She also napped a lot yesterday, poor baby. She seemed fine today though. She is growing so fast.

Katie is 8 and a half months old now. We just had our first beach trip and had a great time. She really like playing in the sand and in the water. Katie is finally rolling from her back to her stomach now. I don't think it will be long before she is crawling. She is trying to pull herself up to standing now. She eating her solid foods good too. Although she still prefers breastfeeding over other foods. She is getting so big.

I just love this child so much, she is just the cutest thing in the world. She is rolling around everywhere. Its like all the sudden she figured out she can roll to get where she wants to go and she is gone. She is rolling wall to wall. She is so funny. Last night she was in the tub and she loves it. She was splashing and playing with her ducks having a blast. I let her play until the water got cool. She has also been sleeping better at night again. I hope it continues. That second tooth should be here any day also.

Katie is now 9 months and 4 days old. Right on her 9 month birthday she broke her second tooth through, the other bottom one. Then on Friday I took her to for her 9 month check up. She weighed 18 pounds and 8 ounces which is in the 50%. She was 29 inches long and her head was 45.5 cm which are both in the 90%. I didn't realize she was so long. She has a big head for all those brains she has. They also checked her hemoglobin, it was 11.7 which is normal. The doctor said for us to start eating 3 solid meals a day and to keep on nursing. She said that Katie looked great. She wasn't concerned about her not really crawling yet and to not expect her to be walking by the time she is one. I also made her 12 month appt which made me so sad. I can't believe how fast time is going. She is growing up right before my eyes.

Katie will be 10 months old tomorrow, wow how the time has flown. I can not believe that in 2 months she will be 1 year old. I am so not ready for that. Katie is not crawling yet but she is still rolling everywhere. She is close to pulling herself up also. We have been doing well with feeding her 3 meals of solids a day and she is still nursing about 5 times a day. She is just the sweetest thing ever. She is so cute when she snuggles with you. We went to the beach and she had a great time playing and eating the sand. She would kick her legs when the waves would come up. She is such a good baby and I am not ready for her to grow up, I wish she would stay this age forever.

Katie is now 10 months and 1 week old. She is now giving kisses. When I say "Give mama a kiss" she will put her head forward towards mine. Sometimes she lands on the lips and sometimes not. It is so sweet. She is also learned to sit up by herself from lying in the floor. She is so close to pulling herself up, she gets half way up and then just sits back down. Katie is now eating almost everything we eat also. She is a good eater and she is still nursing about 5 times a day. I will be sad when our breastfeeding days are ov er although I don't think it will be anytime soon.

Katie is about 10 and a half months old now. She is learning some attitude. When she drops a toy or something she starts screaming. She seems to get easily frustrated when things don't go her way. I guess every baby is like that. Its like she can go from being upset to happy in no time. Her top gums seem swollen to me a little so I guess those top teeth are maiking there way in.

Katie is 10 and a half months old and she finally started crawling. She crawled about 3 feet yesterday and has been crawling around some today. She crawled to Charlie's toys, she loves to play with his toys. What a silly girl. I am so proud of her, she is getting so big. She is also saying bye bye now.

So only after a few days of crawling and Katie is a pro. She is crawling everywhere and into everything. We also bought her this Nursery Rhyums CD and she dances to the music. If I stand her up and she holds on to the table she dances. It has to be the cutest thing ever. I just can't believe how fast she is growing. She seems to really be doing a lot of new stuff this month, its so exciting.

Katie is 10 months, 3 weeks and 3 days old and her first top tooth popped through. Its the one on the left. She wasn't really even that crabby with it. She is really crawling well now and is everywhere. So we also lowered Katie's crib mattress. She wasn't pulling up on it yet but she has started pulling up on other things so we figured it was time. Today she pulled herself up to standing on the couch and then she was trying to climb on the couch. I got some cute video of her trying. She has just exploded with doing new things in her 10th month.

I have also started planning her birthday party. We are going to have a cookout over at Mimi's house. I am really excited but still very bittersweet about her turning one. I can't seem to wrap my head around it.

Tomorrow Katie will be 11 months old. Another top tooth came through, the one on the left beside the one in the front. I can see that the right top tooth will be here anytime too. She has also learned to say uh oo.

Katie is now 11 and a half months old. We are having her first birthday party on Sept. 14th. I am excited about it. I think I am already going to have more people there than I orginally thought. Katie just cracks me up all the time. She is waving hello now and a few days ago she started standing up in her crib. She is becoming a super fast crawler and getting into everything. She is pulling herself up on a lot of stuff now, she tries her best to climb on the futon we have upstairs. She loves Charlie and just laughs and laughs at him.

Katie is pulling up on everything now. She also loves playing with the Little People toys. She likes to put smaller stuff inside of bigger stuff. She also likes to play with these plastic balls we got her. So for the last week or so she has been taking just one nap around one in the afternoon. She is doing pretty well with it. I jsut can not get over how much she has grown and changed in this first year. Its so exciting to watch her explore and learn new things.

Well yesterday was Katie's first birthday. I can't believe a whole year has went by since she came into our lives. What a year it has been.

We had the most perfect natural drug free birth and she took right to breastfeeding. We are still going strong and for that I am so thankful. I love nursing her and am so happy that it worked out so well for us. I am very proud of myself for keeping it up, its very hard work.

With every month of Katie's life came new and exciting things. Rolling over, sitting up and crawling are just many of the things she has mastered over this year. She is such a talker too, saying mama, dada, bye bye, cracker and hi. She loves to wave and smile at everyone she meets. She does have some attitude but she means well and is such a sweet baby girl. She loves to suck her thumb when she is tired and goes to sleep each night with ease. She now has 5 teeth and eats good.

This year has went by in a flash and it makes me a little sad to know I can't cradle her the way I did when she was a newborn but I am filled with excitement with all the new things she will learn in the years to come. I will fondly remember the days when she was so little and would just look up at me and smile.

She is such a daddy's girl and he just adores her. I love to she them together, it just melts my heart. I love when she gives us hugs and kisses now. Its the best thing ever. Mostly I am proud of the parents that Fred and I have become. It kinda feels like Katie has always been apart of our lives, we have adapted well to having a child. She has just fit perfectly into our life. I thank God picked out the perfect child for us to have. I am so thankful that she is happy and healthy.

Katie has taught us so much about love and patience. I just feel lucky to be a part of her life. I want so much for her. I want her to be independent and successful in whatever she wants to do. I want her to get an education and grow up knowing how much her parents love her. I want her to be confident and most of all I want her to be happy. I want her to have a great life and I just hope that Fred and I are giving her a good start. I want her to one day feel the love for her child that I have for her.

I just love her so much. Its a love I don't think I understood until I had her. A mother's love for her child is like no other. Its a special love and I am so happy to have her as my daughter. My baby is one year old.

Yesterday was Kaite's birthday party. It was lots of fun. She gots lots of good toys and clothes. We ate and then had cupcakes. Katie didn't make nearly the mess that I thought she would. Just her hands and her face. I think she really liked the cupcake. She got this push car from my dad and she loves it. She wasn't really into opening the presents so I opened most of them. After the party she fell asleep in moms lap. She was tired.

Today we went for her one year appt. She weighed 19lbs and 9ozs, in the 25%. She was 31 inches, in the 90% and her head was 46 1/2cm, in the 95%. So she is long and lean with a big head. The doctor said that she was doing fine with all her milestones and development. She said we could start whole milk when we wanted, I told her I was still breastfeeding and she was very supportive of it and told me to keep it up. She said just make sure Katie is getting 16ozs of milk a day. She also got 3 shots, the first of her MMR and chicken pox series and the last of her PCV (Pneumococcal). We don't have to go back until Katie is 18 months old.

Katie is getting bigger everyday. We got this little riding toy for her, she can't get on it herself yet but she can climb off. Its so cute. She dances all the time too. I swear she is also saying cracker. She loves dogs too. I can't believe how cute she is. I just crack up at her laughing sometimes.

Katie's second right tooth popped through and she has been crabby today. Fred said she didn't sleep well last night while I was at work and she is paying for it today. She took a 4 hour nap this afternoon and was still crabby. I feel bad for her when she is like that. She just can't express to us how she feels so she whines.

She is getting more independent. She doesn't really want us to feed her with a spoon anymore. She wants to eat finger foods. I have cut down nursing her to twice a day, morning and before bed. I think we are going to start giving her some whole milk this week. I plan to mix it in her breastmilk from the freezer to start. I don't think she will have a problem with it because she eats yogurt and cheese with no problem.

She is getting better with cruising along the furniture. She doesn't seem interested in walking yet though. Soon enough it will happen. She is saying "Charlie" now. She is dancing more to music too. Its the funniest thing in the world. We just crack up laughing at her all the time. She babbles all the time. She flips through her board books like she is reading them, its very cute.
