I don't know whether I'll actually have time to record much here, but I am going to make the attempt...
In 3 days you will be 6 weeks old. I may try to go back and record the first 6 weeks later, but for now we'll start with the past few days. We're in TN for the first time following your birth, so you've just experienced the first of many, many road trips to visit relatives. Even though it was your first trip you handled it like a pro only needing to eat once during the 5 hour trip. You showed Mama that I always need to be prepared with you, though - when I changed your diaper at the gas station we stopped at you pooped all over everything - me, your Nana (we were traveling with Nana, Pooh, and your youngest sister since Daddy and Brenna were already in TN), two coats, yourself, the seat and TV! It was so incredibly funny even though I had to change shirts! Even though your my first son you're my third child so you'd think I'd have a quicker reaction to something like that, but neither of your big sisters did things like that - maybe it's part of being a boy!
You've been growing so much faster than your sisters did. They stayed little for so long but you already feel so heavy in my arms. At 4 weeks you weighed 9 lb 15 oz so you'd gained exactly 2 pounds in 2 weeks. You were in the 25th percentile in weight at your 2 week visit, so you may still officially be on the small side, but you feel and look so big to me compared to my girls.
You've been holding you head up very well for a few weeks now, so you don't look or act like a newborn any more. I love watching you grow, but I'm so sad that it happens so quickly. I love having a tiny baby in the house again and since you're my last little one I know I'll by happy and a little sad at the same time as you reach each new milestone. You absolutely love to be talked to and I just love looking into your big blue baby eyes as we talk to each other. When you nurse - especially when you're really hungry - you'll sing to me and make little contented sounds. It makes me feel so good about nursing you, kind of like you're telling me that I'm giving you just exactly what you want. Maybe you would do the same thing with a bottle, but I still love the feeling that I'm the only one who can feed you right now. Is that selfish? Maybe so, but I have to start letting you go too soon anyway, so I'll cherish our nursing sessions for as long as possible.
I didn't know you were a boy until you were born, and boy was I shocked! As soon as I got you home, though, I started thinking about having to share you with some girl someday and got so incredibly possessive! I never felt that way with my girls, maybe because moms and daughters always share a special bond that husbands can't interfere with but I already didn't like the feeling of being "replaced" by your future wife. I'm praying for her though (just like I do for your sisters' future husbands) that you all will have a strong Christ-centered marriage. I'm just glad I have a few years with you before you grow up and meet her!
You're nursing so great right now. I just wish you'd sleep better at night. You've gone as long as 6 hours and will easily go 5 hours between meals, but right now you're waking more often with an upset tummy from your antibiotic (you had a fever and the beginning of an ear infection). Just two more days of that, though, and maybe we can get back to sleeping better. You do sleep better when you're beside me in the bed, though. I don't know what will happen when we move you to your room in a few weeks - hopefully you'll adjust well.
I'd better end this entry and get some rest while I can!
