Samantha is here. I can't believe she is finally here. Born at 7 lbs and 19 inches long. Cute as a button. I was able to nurse her right after she was born, she nursed for about an hour, alternating sides every little bit.
About 2 hours after she was born we moved over to another room. Right after we got settled in our first visitors arrived, Beth and Bella. Soon after paw paw Bill, Donna and Jason came. I was still pretty sore and moving around like an old lady but feeling pretty good. Samantha was sleepy. Later that evening paw paw, maw maw and Katie came to visit. Katie was so cute with Samantha. She said mommy I like her. She held her and gave her a kiss, it was so sweet.
After everyone left we got settled in for the night. Samantha was kind of fussy and acting hungry so I kept feeding her. We nursed a lot of the night. They came in to weigh her sometime in the early morning. She weight 6 lbs 13 ozs, so she only lost a little weight. I was thankful for that, we had such a hard time with Katie losing weight after she was born. Nursing seems to be going much better so far this time.
Dr A came in and saw us Wednesday morning, he told me we could go home this afternoon or we could wait until tomorrow morning. I told him I felt comfortable going home today. We had to wait until they did a few test on Samantha after she was 24 hours old. They checked her jaundice level and did her hearing test. About 1 they came in and did all of our discharge paperwork and then we were ready to go.
It was so nice to come home and be in my own home. That evening Mimi came over and brought us dinner. I felt good about being home and Samantha was doing great. We went to bed around 10, we were up a few times but all and all a good night.
Nursing is going great, my milk is starting to come it. I think nursing all night that first night really brought it in faster. Samantha is nursing about every 2 to 3 hours and having plenty of wet and poopy diapers. Katie came home from paw paw and maw maws house tonight. Our first night with both girls at home.
We went out with Samantha for the first time tonight. We went out to dinner. She slept the whole time we were gone. She is dong very well. Of course sleeping a lot and eating are about all she does.
Samantha went to the doctor for the first time today. Dr J said she looked great. I could not believe she was already back up to her birth weight at just 6 days old. Must have some super breast milk. She was 20 and a half inches long. We don't have to go back now until she is a month old.
We are all doing great. Samantha is nursing about every 2 to 3 hours during the day. She seems to be doing a little cluster feeding in the evening. We have been going to bed around 10ish. She has been sleeping for about 4 hour stretches at night. I think she is doing great. Katie seems to be adjusting well too. She has been a little whiney but thats to be expected. She has been helpful though, getting diaper and wipes out for me when I need them. She keeps saying she loves Samantha. I put Samantha in her crib for a nap for the first time today too. I can't believe how lucky we are to have two healthy, beautiful baby girls.
Samantha cord fell off last night. I went to change her diaper and it was off. Katie kept asking me if that thing fell off yet, I couldn't wait to tell her this morning that it did. I am excited for her to have her first real bath now.
I can't believe Sam is 2 weeks old already. She is doing great. Breastfeeding is going well, she is eating about every 2 to 3 hours during the day and last night she went 4 hours in the night. I think that is really good. She seems pretty content most of the time. Katie is doing well too. I think she is adjusting well to having a little sister.
Samantha is so cute. I just can't believe is here and we now have 2 children. It's just hard to believe. I think we are all adjusting well. Samantha has been doing good at night except she will wake to eat and then just stay awake. I am not too sure what we are suppose to do about that. I will try to put her back to sleep for a while then I let Fred take over.
We gave Samantha a pacifier for the first time. She was fed, changed and still was fussy so we gave her one. She seem to do well with it. I was just nervous about it messing up breastfeeding but I think she will be fine. She also slept for 6 hours 2 nights ago, thats the longest she has gone. Then of course the next night she woke up after 4 hours and then was awake for atleast an hour.
We have had a fussy day today. Samantha did not sleep well last night. She woke up at 2ish and then was up for almost 2 hours. Then today she has been sleeping a ton, I am just not sure what to do about it. So I have been waking her every 3 hours for her to eat. I guess we will see what happens tonight.
Sam is 2 months already, were does the time go. After all that sleeping she did yesterday she slept pretty good last night. She slept until 2 and ate then went right back to sleep and slept until 7. She has to go to the doctor in a few days, I can't wait to see how much weight she has gained. I can tell she is getting bigger.
We took Sam to the doctor today for her one month check up. She weighed 8 lbs and 13 ozs, she was 21 1/2 inches and her head was 36 1/2. All in the 50%. I can't believe she has gained almost 2 pounds in a month. Its crazy how fast babies grow. The doctor examined her and all that good stuff. She put her on her belly to see how she was holding her head up and she almost rolled over by herself. I told her she can't do that yet, she is growing too fast. The doctor said everything looked great and we were going a wonderful job with her. She also got her second Hep B vaccine. She was so pitiful when they gave her the shot, she just cried and cried.
Sam slept a lot yesterday after her shot, pretty typical.
Samantha is starting to smile some. When talking to her if you smile real big at her she will smile back at you. She loves smiling at her Mimi when she is talking to her. I think Katie has got used to her being here too.
Sam has been sleeping pretty good. I have been putting her to bed at 9ish and she will sleep until 3ish and then up at 7. She has been doing pretty well with going back to sleep too, only once or twice a week is Fred having to put her in the swing and sleep on the couch. Most of the time she has not been fussy at night. Every once in a while she will be but mostly she is happy. She loves bath time. I put her in there and she just lays there, its so cute. I put her in her crib for night time last night for the first time. She did great.
Sam will be 8 weeks old tomorrow. We have been working on trying to get her to sleep in her crib at nap time. Its kind of hit or miss. I just hate to be dependent on the swing sometimes. We are on the go so much that she mostly naps in her carseat when we are out and about. I guess she will get used to it eventually.
We are getting ready to take Sam camping for the first time. When I was packing things up I felt like we were taking half the house. I am excited and I hope she does well. She has been pitching a fit when she is in her car seat lately so we will see how it goes.
So we are back from Pigeon Forge and we had a great time. Sam was going to bed around 8:30 and sleeping for about 6 hours, waking up to eat and then sleeping until 7. The second night we were camping she slept until 6 in the morning before waking up and then going back to sleep in her swing for an hour or so. The third night we were there she slept all the way through until 7. I couldn't believe it. I was so proud of her. It completely debunks the myth that breastfeed babies don't sleep through the night until later on. She continued to sleep that well the whole time we were camping. She did good other wise while we were away. We are still working on naps. She goes to sleep but then as soon as we put her down she wakes up. It was nice to have Fred and my mom around the whole time to help.
Sam went back to the doctor today for her 3 month appt. It went well. She is growing like a weed. I have to go back to work in less than 2 weeks and I am feeling nervous. She was taking a bottle about every other day then when we went on vacation I didn't want to take my pump and bottles so I just nursed her the whole time. So now that we are back she is refusing to take the bottle. She just screams and screams. I feel awful. I guess we will see what happens.
We went on Katie's first field trip today. I put Sam in her carrier and she was great. She slept almost the whole time. She loves to be snuggled with her momma. She has still been sleeping from 8:30 until 7ish in the morning. I am completely spoiled with that. Its great. Naps are still a struggle but we are just going with the flow.
I had my first night back at work last night. It was so hard to leave. We have decided that Fred would try the bottle for a few minutes and if she wouldn't take it just get her calm and try to get her to sleep. So thats what he did. He tried but she would not drink it. He got her to go to sleep around 9 and she slept until 7ish. I got home at 7:30 and she was just waiting patiently on me. I was so surprised that she slept that well without having anything to eat before bed.
Sam giggled at Mimi for the first time today. It was the sweetest thing ever. Mimi was kissing her neck and she giggled. I couldn't believe it. She is just growing so fast.
We are leaving to go to the beach tomorrow for a week. I hope Sam does good on this trip too. She has giggled a few more times since last week. Its the best sound ever. She totally loves Katie. She smiles at her and watches her all the time. Its sweet to see the girls together like that.
We had a great week at the beach. Sam was great. We put her in the ocean for the first time and she loved it. She was kicking her feet. She has been making all sorts of baby sounds lately. Its so cute. She has still been sleeping like a champ and naps are hit or miss. Sometimes she goes down well and other days only sleeps when we hold her and takes cat naps. She will only be little for a short while so we are really enjoying this time. We put her in the jumperoo for the first time yesterday. She really liked and stared at the lights on it.
Sam has been making more and more noises and giggling more often. Its the sweetest sound. She is really just a laid back baby most of the time.
We went to the beach again for a week and had a good time. Sam is not napping well, we have no schedule and its been really hard. I am hoping since we are back home and are not going anywhere for a while that I can finally get her on a better schedule. I swear while we were at the beach she lost a ton of her hair. She looks like a different baby. All her brown hair has mostly fallen out and now she has blonde peach fuzz. It is so cute.
Sam Had her 4 month appointment today. She weighed 13lbs and 5ozs, thats in between the 25% and 50%. She was 25 1/4 inches tall, thats in between the 75% and 90%. Her head was 41 cm, thats in the 50%. Dr J said she looked great and said we could start solids if we wanted so we will see. Sam is still not taking the bottle so its so frustrating to me because I am the only one that can ever feed her. It is totally draining to me. Sam also got shots at the appointment today and she did awesome. I was actually surprised how well she did. We put her on the exam table and the nurse did the shots, she cried for about 5 seconds and when Fred picked her up she was fine. I couldn't believe it.
So I have decided that we have to get this napping under control. So yesterday I let her cry it out for her afternoon nap. She cried and I went in about every 20 minutes and rocked her a few minutes, then she finally went to sleep for about 45 minutes. So I think I finally figured out that I have been waiting too long to put her down for naps. I think she is overtired. So today at the first sign of tiredness I rocked her a few minutes and then put her in her crib. She cried for about 30 minutes and then slept for almost 2 hours. I couldn't believe it. Then this afternoon I did the same thing and she cried for 15 minutes and slept for an hour and a half. Now she is taking another little nap. She has not napped this well in forever. I sure hope she sleeps well tonight too. I think she will be in a better mood too. She has been fussy the last week or so. We have just been so busy, we really need to slow down and let her rest more.
Sam rolled from back to front for the first time today. She is also 5 months old today. She was reaching for a toy and over she went. She is just growing so fast. She is starting to babble more and more. She love Katie too. She smiles at her and watches her play all the time.
Sam said mama for the first time today. She has been saying mama mama mama. I doubt she knows what it means but it still makes me feel good. She has been napping a little better. I just have to watch her closely and get her down for a nap early.
So Sam is 5 and a half months old today. She has been eyeing our food for a while now so we tried her on some rice cereal for the first time. I think she liked it. She did pretty well. Katie even got to feed her some. We took some cute pictures of her eating. She is growing so fast.
Sam is 6 months old today. She went for her 6 month well baby check today too. She was 14 pounds and 9 ounces, which is in the 10 to 25%. She dropped down on the growth chart a little but the doctor was not really worried about it. We told her we are starting solids. Plus Sam is moving and kicking her legs all the time. She asked me about how much I pump at work and how my supply is. I feel like she is getting enough, she has plenty of wet and poopy diapers. She was 26 inches, which is in the 75%. She is long and lean. Her head was 42 1/4 cm, which is in the 50 to 75%. I think she is growing fine. The doctor examined her and said everything looked good. She got some shots. She did great with the shots today. We go back when she is 9 months old. Also we gave her squash for the first time tonight. She did not seem to really like them but she ate a little bit. I guess we will keeping trying. So now we are giving her 2 meals a day, one with cereal and one with food.
Sam has been saying dada. Its so cute and sweet. She is rolling over all over the place. We have also been putting her in the walker and she is starting to move around pretty good in it. We have been starting a new food every week. So far she has had sweet potatoes, carrots and green beans.
So Sam is one crazy kid. She is all over the place in her walker. She keeps trying the trash can over. You tell her no and she just smiles at you. She has now had sweet peas and this week we started fruits. She had bananas and she loves them. She really likes everything we have gave her. She cracks me up the way she rolls to wherever she wants to go. I think she will be crawling soon. She sorts of lifts her knee up when she rolls over but she doesn't quite have it together yet. Although I am in no rush for that.
Sam is army crawling every where. Its just like all of the sudden she is just doing it. I can't believe how big she is getting. She has been eating well too. We are breaking puffs in half and she is eating them.
Sam is still army crawling but she is starting to put her knees under her a little. She also pulled her self up to standing today for the first time. I was sitting on the couch and she pulled up on my legs to standing. Little stinker is just into everything. She is such a happy baby.
