Yes! Semen, Seamen, Hymen, etc. That would be a cruel name. It might be worse for his brother as well. A boy named Peter with a brother named Semen?

Karmella is not in the realm of names like Symen. For one, it's a legitimate spelling in Slav/Germanic languages. Second, it's a second name, so most kids she goes to school with will not even know.

The other thing is, although I am very judgmental about bad names, there is nothing a child can do about it after a parent makes a mistake (until they are old enough to change it, that is). So if I knew someone who named their child Nevaeh or Symen or Boobs or something equally awful I would tell them before the choice was made but once it's on the birth certificate I would shut up. The name is still terrible but I wouldn't say anything because that child has to live with that name. Most people are the same, although children will be cruel.
