With that spelling I definitely think boy. But if it is said outloud without seeing the spelling or kid, I think people would assume girl.

The spelling is definitely boy. Now, if you spelt it Lauren Drew, then I would think girl... but "Loren" is the masculine form.

Agree with the pp though, if people only read/heard the name, then I suspect they would assume a girl... I don't think "Loren" (boy's name) is a very common name nowdays (at least in my experience... the ONLY time I've heard it was on the Dr. Quinn, Medicine Woman TV series... he was the general store owner LOL)

That's where we got it from. My mom's name was Lorriane and we wanted to name this baby after her. It would have been Raine if it was a girl.

I went to school with a Loren, spelled that way, and he got teased for having a girl name in elementary. I think it could go either way, but I prefer Lauren/Loren for a girl (though Loren is definitely the masculine spelling) and I prefer Drew for a boy.

I said girl's name because Lauren (the sound of the name) is dominately female these days. Even with a different spelling (which most people don't even see when they're introduced to a person), I think a lot of people will immediately think he has a girl name.

Even Drew by itself is a bit feminine to me. Although Andrew is obviously a boy's name. I have a cousin named Andrew and his nickname is Drew.

i said works for both.. because in all honesty i think it could be both, however the spelling of Loren does look masculine.

for what its worth, my DH's university room-mates name was Lorne. thats another spelling you could go with

I said boy because I know that "Loren" is the masculine spelling. Having said that, I think that most people who only hear it (and don't see it spelled) would think it was a girl's name. The only Loren I have ever known was my SIL's ex-boyf, and when she first told us that she was going on a date with "Loren" I heard "Lauren" and thought she was coming out to us!!!! LOL!!!!

I agree with this. But that being said, I named my son Avery. To a lot of people it's a girl name but it works for both and we loved it! I really like the spelling Loren.
