Depends how you pronounce it... Is it like LAY-nee... Or more like lane (as in a road)?

Love the name Lainey (infact if we were to ever have another girl she'd be either Lainey or Trinity) for a girl...

To me it can be either boy or girl although spelling it Layne, makes me think girl. I like it and we actually have it on our list for a middle name (I'd love it for a boy for a first name but we already have two L names and that can get confusing enough!). It makes me think of Lane from the movie 8 Seconds (not a bad reference

I really like the name Layne and I think boy immediately because of Lane Frost (the bull rider). It probably doesn't help that my son is Zayne so I don't think that the "Y" makes it girlie

I agree. My daugher and husband share the middle name Lane, but neither go by it. I do love Laney for a girl, but I think Lane would be fine for a boy too.

    I'm neutral on it for a girl's name. I don't like it for a boy's name.
