DH and I took quite a while to agree on names that we like. When we shared them with family though, they seemed unimpressed and a little put off.
We're fairly confident that we're having a girl, who we plan to name Isobel Grace (using the nickname Izzy). We've heard about how it's too Twilight-y and how no one will know how to pronounce it because it's spelled funny. I prefer this spelling though, as it's the Scottish spelling and seems more traditional to me.
If we have a boy, we're planning to call him Jameson Xavier. We both like the name James, but a friend recently had a boy named James. We figure we can still call him James, or any nicknames associated with the name, without using the same FN. My parent's aren't fans of Xavier, but it was DH's great grandfather's name, and it's only a middle name.
Anyways, I'm looking for some outside opinions on the names. What do you think?
i see no problem with either name...
give your family some time.. and truthfully if you like the names, take their opinions lightly... once your child is here and they associate the name with your baby... i doubt they will have bad feelings towards it...
in my personal experience... my mother actually almost cried when i told her i was considering naming my DS Paxton ( she wanted me to name him brandon...).... now she says she couldnt imagine him with another name...
i hope everything works out for you, good luck!

i think they're nice names! don't worry about family opinions, it's not their decision! they've already had their chance to pick baby names and now it's your turn!
as for the spelling of isobel, i think it's perfectly fine to chose another known spelling of a name.... it's making up creative spellings that drive me nuts!

I agree with the PP that the making up spellings for names just to be different drives me nuts. But there's nothing wrong with using a traditional spelling, especially if that's your heritage. I like the names themselves as well. Jameson is unique without being completely out there and if Xavier is a family name you shouldn't let other people's opinions affect your decision, after all the significance is to you or your DH rather, not them so they're not coming from the same place.
I like both too.....
This is one of the reasons why I never give name info. while pregnant....everyone has their opinion and it's my kid....I usually just throw a few names out I have no intention using and it shuts them up *lol*
P.S. - Jameson is in our top 10
OP, I like both names! I've seen Isobel being used before and no one had issues with saying the name correctly - just when spelling it (but that's an issues with most names these days even when you have a common spelling). Use what YOU love - not other people! Not their kid anyways!
I like the name Isobel!!! The spelling helps set it apart from the whole Twilight thing, and it's also a traditional spelling too.. very pretty.
Jameson is also a great name, love it! Your fam will come around!
Jackie - haha! Brocleigh.. while we were still waiting for our referral when we were adopting my little sisters, we joked about how if we got a boy we could name him Brock Lee.... hope things are going well for you & baby!
Wasn't Isabelle the most common name last year? I know it's spelt different, but usually people won't know the spelling when she tells them her name. Do you want the number one name? I'm always worried my kid will be one of five in their class or something.
I do think it's a good idea not to tell everyone what you are planning on naming the baby because you'll always find someone who doesn't like it. Of course, if you don't mind what people say then tell away! I'm going to tell because I don't like to keep secrets and I want to buy personalized stuff.
I really like both names also. I am especially fond of the spelling of Isobel also.
