WWYD??

So we just found out I'm expecting #2 :) So of course, let the name obsessing begin!

We've always been stuck on boy names, DS was named in the delivery room. Any suggestions we'll take them (DS is Jacob, we like "traditional" with out being "plain" if that makes sense.. haha! Clearly popularity isn't a big deal:rolleyes:)

Anyway, My real question is this. One of my top girl names is Emma Grace R**-- we have a 1 syllable last name. Anyway, my 1st cousin's name is Emily and we often call her Emmy. Too close right?? I wouldn't mind even making 'Emma Grace' the first name rather than first in middle. I have ALWAYS loved the name Emma/Emily and would love to use it but I don't want to get the flack from my family over it... anyway, our runner up for a girl is Kayleigh Grace-- but this one has me stumped on spelling.

Anyway this is all just for fun, but I thought I'd put some activity on the board :)

that being said... it depends on how comfortable you are with them having similar names. do you like Ella or Emaline? something slightly different but with the same feminine sound? even Emerson can be short-formed to Emmy (dh's boss has a daughter named Emerson and they call her Emmy?

I love Kayleigh Grace... i wouldnt change a thing about the spelling. i think its beautiful.

as for boy names... we have slightly different tastes so i doubt i would be much help lol. i prefer non-traditional, but not "out there", you know what i mean? but i figure its for fun i will give you my list anyways..

I guess you can say that I like no traditional too then, because with DS, Parker was my #1 and DH veto'd it asap! haha, He was going to be named Jackson but then Michael Jackson died and I freaked out about naming him Jackson (haha total pregnancy melt down!) Thanks for your boy name suggestions! :)

I think my hang up on Kayleigh as far as spelling, I think I'm just worried that it's really long and we have SUCH a short last night, I dunno, I'm kind of OCD about names haha As far as alternations of "Emily" I think my most favorite one would be Emmalyn (again stuck with the Grace middle name). My other most favorite variant is Emorie/Emery, but we're military and the name the meals the eat are called M.R.E-- too much haha!! So anyway!

I guess I don't love any other spellings of Kayleigh though, the only ones I've seen are K/Caylee, K/Caleigh, Kalee-- that's about all I've seen.. So again, choices choices! We've got nothing but time, but DH is NOT a name guy haha I pick my tops and give him a few choices haha!

oh i hear you on the DH being difficult with names... i heard "veto" so many times i thought about suggesting it as a name (jokingly of course)

ive always been a fan of long first names with short last names. Kayleigh isnt that long that it would be overpowering in my opinion. Theres also spelling it Kaylie or Kailey, even Kaley.

Emalynn Grace would be pretty too.. i seriously dont think a long first name would be that big of a deal as long as they sound good together. My DD's name is Hayden Alexandra B****e.. its a mouthful long middle name and 6 letter last name/ first name. But it works.

i love Jackson.. the only reason we veto'd it was because my grandmas last name is jackson and DH's grandma's new husbands last name is jackson.. its confusing enough with all the jacksons in our families. lol. Jacob and Jackson would be so cute too.

if you want a fun way to find names... watch movie credits... seriously. We got DS's name from a movie.. and when i was pregnant with DD i would scroll thru the credits after a movie and see if anything caught my eye. Mind you DS's name was a character (in the movie Hostel, weird place to find a name.. i know lol ), but i saw Hayden when i was watching Remember the Titans... shes the actress who plays the little girl in it. i had never thought of it for a girl before.. originally she was going to be Teagan Jade.

now that im done with babies i miss the fun of naming them. as stressful and time consuming as it is theres something so awesome about when you finally figure out the perfect name. But two kids 22 months apart is enough for me... so i guess i'll have to settle for helping DD name her dolls lol.

I TOTALLY do this all the time!!

I love Teagan, but DH's name is Tanner, and he thinks they're too close and he doesn't like Teagan, I on the other hand, do haha!

I think Emma or even Emily is fine to use if it is your first cousin. If it were Jacob's cousin, then I think it is too close. A few months after #1 was born, my cousin named her baby my first name and my daughter first name.
The only thing that made it weird (warning long story) is that I wrote an email to my friend, Megan to get her street address to send the birth announcement. I automatically typed in the address. I didn't really pay attention. I noticed when I got the reply I sent it to my cousin Megan, who I hadn't planned on sending an announcement, but felt I had to because she gave me her address! oopsy, so I sent her her future child's name :lol: But I have always loved the name Megan (any spelling) and would use it in an instant.
Morgan was a top contender for us last time, I still like it, but Morgen means morning/tomorrow here.
We liked lots of traditional but tried not to be plain, but I can't remember the names.


now maybe you have to think of 2 names!!!

Haha, I have almost the exact same problem (specific name and everything!) My first choice name has ALWAYS been Emma (my Great Grandma actually was Emma Grace!) and then a couple years ago my uncle, who was already in his mid-40's and noone thought he would ever have kids.. finally went and had his first child... and named her Emma!!! Argg! So now we absolutely can't use the same name so we are trying to find alternatives that still let us carry on my Great Grandma's name. Right now, our favorite is Emily Lorraine (Lorraine is DH's grandma) and I also suggested Emmalyn to hubby, but he doesn't like it. Anyways I guess my point is that if we have a girl, there will be an Emma and an Emily, very close in age and family, but we're going to go with it. We're already making a concession as it is, and I've always wanted to use the name Emma!

On the flip side... we have NO IDEA for a boys name... we absolutely can't agree on anything.

The great thing about the name is all the nicknames people come up with. Since everyone often calls your cousin Emmy, you could call Emma "Em". We call Emorie by her name and also Emmy and Em.

You are actually where I "first" saw the name hahaha!! Dh isn't sold on Emorie because of M.R.E (meals ready to eat--- I think) but anyway, it's a military term haha.

I think I'm almost liking the Kailey spelling-- I stumbled on it the other night. I liked the -leigh ending but I duno haha!

I need to stop worrying, I REALLY feel like this baby is a boy :)
