This is one of several "All About" posts where each is about a particular type of commonly used baby carriers. I WANT HELP with pictures, comments and tricks to each brand you have experience with, how to use it properly, different carry options, and more! So please offer input to help supplement my information.
You can add homemade pouches to this thread, but only if you share the pattern you used (or at least link to where you got it). I would appreciate only safely made pouches be shared on here, so the best information is available.
Ring slings are similar to pouches and are covered here.
I am not very familiar with pouches, but hopefully others can help me out!
Pouches are loops of material that are worn on one shoulder. There are not rings to adjust like ring slings, so it is very important that you have the correct size! Some pouches are adjustable, but it's still important to have it sized to you correctly before placing baby in the carrier.
The first carrier I bought was a peanut shell sling. I hate it. I never could get her in there right or in any way that made me the least bit comfortable. It's possible I have the wrong size pouch for me and the one I have is not adjustable.
I, too, hated my pouch. Thank goodness it was a hand me down...I did use it a few times when she was older in an emergency, but all I could manage was a buddha position type thing. IMO the worst, least flexible type of carrier.
I bought the Seven Sling last Spring for a vacation we were going on. I figured it would help me carry my 29 lb toddler on my hip. Nope - it was too tight and he hated it. I tried it last night with my 6lb13oz newborn and it swallowed her and made me feel like I was smothering her. Maybe I should wait for her to grow? Maybe I should give up and get rid of it?
