Ergo

So, I'm hearing a lot about the Ergo lately. Does anyone have a recommendation for a specific one or are they all basically the same?

They're all pretty similar. Some are supposed to be cooler than others for the baby, but will feel fairly similar to you. Some material differences. Some have zipper pockets, some don't. Body size is pretty much the same across the board.

I have an organic one. Pretty much the same as the original, only the materials are organic. I liked the colors of mine better which was the only reason I got organic. I got it form BabySteals last summer.

The sports Ergos have less material on baby's back. Hood detaches (mine doesn't). No pocket obviously since it's less material. I've tried on on and thought it was fine. I don't remember noticing anything too different from my organic one.

Performance Ergo has a different material on the outside. Supposedly is better for outdoors? I've seen one IRL, but haven't tried it on or anything. It's lighter weight, but none of them are heavy IMO.

(both of these are from end of Oct/early Nov so he was about 1 year)

ETA: Found a front carry picture! Aiden was 6 months old here. This is from the day we got it actually!

No. Not with the other carriers you have. Though my husband only uses SSCs (which is what the Ergo is). I like using SSCs in places where mei tai straps might get dirty and I want to wear him longer than what my ring sling will allow. You can see from the front carry picture when he was 6 months that it wouldn't exactly fit a small baby well, so you have lots of time to decide if you want one or not.

There are lots of other SSCs out there too. A few may have entered my house at some point. Wink Each SSC is different with some having curved waists and some having straight waists, padding thickness, strap (webbing) length, width of straps, size of body, etc. I love how the Ergo is easy to find in mainstream America and it's a really good carrier compared to so many that you see in big box stores.

I had a sport ergo from babysteals and sold it b/c I didn't like the way it fit DD. I then bought the organic ergo on babysteals and love it much more. I find it a bit hot to wear in the summer, but not bad. I prefer it to my mei tei simply b/c when I put the mei tei on in public the straps drag on the ground.

I have the original ERGO and LOVE LOVE LOVE it! I used the infant insert with my DD when she was younger and she always feel asleep in it. We use the ERGO pretty much everywhere we go and love it. I have back problems and have not had a single issue with my back hurting using it!

We just bought an organic one today, with an infant insert. Our baby is only two weeks old but with the insert she fits snugly. We wore it around the mall today and she slept happily!

We tried on the performance one too, and it just seemed more outdoorsy than the organic one. Seems like it would be good for hiking or all-weather situations, but we have a stroller that we will use for that. The organic one was softer and seemed a little more comfy.

I'll probably be the loner to say that I didn't really appreciate the Ergo, neither did DS#4.

It just didn't fit us right, I guess. I ended up selling it after using it about 4 times.

What other carriers did you try that didn't work out? There may be something similar to the Ergo that won't make your back hurt at the end of the day. All SSCs (like the Ergo) are a bit different and wear a bit differently. Smile

I have the Heart Rose Ergo (pink-patterned). I love it! I wear her in back carries all the time. I didn't start using it regularly until DD was closer to 8 months. I didn't have an infant insert, so my Action Baby Carrier worked better for us in the beginning. It fit a younger baby better.

Oooo! Could you post a reply sometime on the SSC thread about the ABC? I've heard of them, but have never seen one before! Smile

I'm in Europe and some aren't in US. I think the Patapum is one.

Kristie, what is Kerri's username? Wasn't she a dealer of ABC's or was it Baby Hawk? I can't remember?

I've heard that's a good carrier, but tricky for some. I know there are several carriers y'all have there that are hard to find here in the US. If you haven't try over at thebabywearer.com forums. There are a bunch of ladies on there living all over the world that could have suggestions.

I personally think that carriers should be more for the parent than the kid. Cause after all, if I don't like how a carrier looks I won't use it. I do try to keep at least one SSC that's GN/boyish so that DH will wear it. Lol

I'm pretty sure I was on pg.org for 2 year before I figured out multi quote. Then forgot how to use it since I took a break from here. Lol
