I'm getting myself an early Christmas present this year and buying a new carrier. I'm experienced with wraps and MT's but that's where my knowledge ends. We just moved and I will now have much more opportunity to baby wear as we're in town and walking a lot more (well, we were before it became the temperature of he!!) so I want a good solid, comfortable SSC. I just can't decide what's best. I will probably wrap for the first few months because I love the versatility of wraps and love being able to keep baby in a carrier that looks so complicated by onlookers that they never ask me to remove baby :) So, I won't necessarily need a carrier that is great for newborns. I'm mainly looking for after the newborn stage and on up. I have narrowed my search to either an Ergo, a Beco Butterfly, or a Boba G3, but I'm up for other suggestions and also opinions on what you love out of those and why! TIA!!
I have the boba 2g because the 3 g wasn't out when i got mine. I really like it, the 3g is supposed to be better for smaller bubs as well, whereas the 2g was toted very much as a toddler carrier
A baby sized Bamberoo!!! It is absolutely the most dreamiest carrier I've ever tried on. As much as I love wrapping these days, I will always keep at least one Bamberoo in my house!!! I have tried on Boba and Beco and they were lacking in comfort to me compared to the Ergo (granted I was trying them on with a 24 lb toddler lol). We own an Ergo and I like it, but I have zero issues with it being DH's carrier only. I never cared for the Ergo in a front carry, but it is comfortable in a back carry. What I don't like about the back carry is that the waist padding for skinny me (as opposed to pregnant me lol) does not cover any of my belly - it's just webbing there! It shows off all my fat and digs in after awhile. Otherwise it is comfortable. DH's Ergo days are numbered though because the short body doesn't come up tall enough on DS - I'm really nervous that he's going to find a way to flip out because DS is a major leaner (which is why I love wrapping - it's always the perfect height for DS).
Now I will say they are harder to get than Ergo since you have to wait for her to stock her store or best yet just buy a used one online (the baby wearer and one of the FB swaps I'm on has them often), but you can find Bamberoo for the same price as a new Ergo. Not going to find them for BabySteals price, but I've seen them for $100 before.
Similar to the Bamberoo is KinderPack. I haven't tried one personally, but they're in the same "dreamy" category as Bamberoo. More expensive new, but often found for similar prices used.
Umm....another good one I hear raves about but haven't tired is Kanga.
Seriously, when bored lurk on the Asian carrier part of TBW and read up. There are TONS of great options out there and then you can hunt for used on their FSOT.
ETA: I think a lot of baby sized b'roos are going to mom's posting an ISO. It's how I got my first one. lol. The green elephant carrier I own is a baby sized B'roo and I got it Black Friday with a coupon code so it was cheaper.
If I ever had down time I'd be on PO Jackie! This is part of my problem right now, I don't have time to lurk or read on TBW right now and I highly doubt I'll get any extra time soon :)
I'll look into the ones you mention. I need something that won't kill my back, something very well fitting so my back doesn't flare up.
You've got time on your side till you need a SSC thanks to wrapping and a ring sling. SSCs are fantastic for back carries, which you'll want at some point. ;)
If I ever see anything I'll let ya know.
I personally LOVE my Ergo and HATED my Beco Butterfly. The main difference is the amount of fussy straps and buckles on the Beco, and the piece that goes between you and the baby, vs the Ergo which I can just pull on and go. (Also easily pop her in/out depending on toddler will to walk.) The Ergo is really comfortable, and they're getting cuter ;) I didn't want to like it, because I thought they were ugly, but once I started using it, I was hooked.
Haven't tried the others mentioned, though.
Thanks to Jackie I was able to get a 2nd hand Ergo for an awesome price that came in the mail yesterday!!! DH tried it on last night with DD2 in it. She hated it LOL but she's not been "worn" for almost 2 years so it's fair that she's a little put off by being confined. And it was also almost supper time and you don't mess with that girl with food on the way :D I'm so excited to try it out with this new LO when he/she gets big enough. And then I can figure out what I like and don't like about it and move on from there. DH was even getting into wearing DD2, he did the front carry and then the back carry with her screaming and pulling his hair the whole time!
Now I'm even more sad that this will be our last just as I'm finally expanding my stash of carriers.
That's awesome! Even though only one kid will really use it, hopefully she'll use it for a loooooong time. Adair still gets excited about riding in the "backpack" (although she usually wants to get down really quickly once we're actually doing it...she's in a wanting to walk everywhere phase, ugh.)
If he wants to try it again with your DD, I'd advise him trying it out of the house when moving around so there are distractions. DH likes to wear Aiden at Lowe's and tells him about what he's seeing that's normally way too high for DS to notice or see. lol.
And very happy that I was able to score you a deal! :D
