    Default Thank you, MIL!

So, my ILs left on Tuesday after a nearly 3 week visit. On one of their last nights here, MIL was asking me what things we're going to need for the new baby. I showed her the registry I have set up at my State-side local cloth-diapering/natural parenting store. The registry included a new Ergo, infant insert and suck pads.

She straight up asked, "Is this the most expensive thing you'll need for the new baby?"

    I said, "Yes."

She said, "I'll give you the money for all that before we leave."

    Whoooooooooooohooooooooooooo!!!!!

So I have an envelope with $200 in it, to buy all that stuff! And I'm fairly certain $200 is more than enough, so I'll get to buy a couple new diapers or something as well. (I only wish I could go ahead and order it NOW, but I have to get the money INTO an account before I can order anything...or just buy in person...)

Now, my only question, which I haven't looked into at all, and maybe one of you can save me the research...

does the infant insert work in all Ergos? We have a hand-me-down original one that we use for DD (didn't use it until she was big enough to not use the insert), but, I was planning on getting the Sport for the new baby, because they are lighter and cooler. My SIL has the sport one- I borrowed it, and it feels maybe narrower as well? It just felt like it fit a bit differently, which made me wonder if the infant insert would work in it. Anyone know?

According to their website the infant insert should fit into any Ergo carrier. I've never heard anyone complaining about it not fitting some Ergos.

You definitely have to update us this summer how the Ergo with the infant insert goes! Will be great information to have on here to share.

    What a fantastic gift.

That is AWESOME! Go, MIL! (And ooh, jealous...you get to shop! They're making Ergos cuter and cuter these days...I had to stop looking because I was getting all spendy and I CANNOT afford a new baby carrier just for the fabric!)

Wow! Go MIL!! That is awesome. What a great feeling that must be that you have that plus some taken care of! We'll be expecting pictures after you get baby in there!

OK, another question! Since we can afford either with the money that MIL gave us... does anyone have an opinion on Ergo Sport vs Ergo Performance? The website does say that the Sport is the lightest-weight and has the vent (but not the pocket). The Performance is still described as "light-weight" and has wicking material, etc. Plus the body does look fuller, which although must be a little warmer, also just looks more secure to me- and it has the pocket (which I did actually use now and then, just to stick my keys and some money in or whatever). When it comes to the warmth/coolness factor, I suppose we are used to using the original Ergo, so either one of these is going to be cooler than that.

Anyway.... DH just had a look with me, and he likes the gray Performance one, but said I can choose. So he's no help.

(and yes of course I will post pictures eventually and report on the infant insert... and Leigh I have to say, I'm a little bummed that neither the Sport nor the Performance comes in any of the super cute prints or anything, BUT, since my DH wears the babies a lot too, he would probably appreciate a solid color anyway...)

I have no personal experience with either, BUT I will say that I have been loving the pocket on my Ergo to keep one diaper and a couple of wipes in as well as my keys and wallet. That way I can keep a bigger diaper bag and purse in the car, but run around with no extra bags. It's my favorite part of babywearing with a toddler!

I know that for an infant you tend to need more with you all the time and that probably won't be applicable as much until the baby is older, but....it's a nice feature. And when DD was tiny, I did often use the pocket on my Maya Wrap to throw my money, keys, and phone in to run in to stores unburdened. (Yes I did then smack myself in the face with that stuff a few times, flipping the tail up for nursing and forgetting it was in there! )

Anyway, I'd hesitate to buy a carrier without a pocket, personally. All else being equal.

Leigh, I think I used the pocket just as much when Beni was little. Just going for a walk, would throw my keys in there, or running into a store (where I wouldn't take a diaper bag anyway) I'd throw my keys and money in... it definitely helps with the hands-free aspect, when you also DON'T have to carry a bag... I totally get what you're saying! Might be leaning toward the Performance....

Ooh, those look nice! I like that they've added a zipper to the front pocket. What the heck am I supposed to keep in an open-topped pocket that's going to be upside down when DD wants to run around every ten minutes?

Sigh...I knew I shouldn't have gone on there again...I love that Galaxy Gray original one with the stars...maybe I should applique some cuteness onto mine.

Which Ergo do you have? Your pocket doesn't have a zipper? I have an original- but like I said it's a hand me down- but it has a zipper on the pocket, but it's vertical, on the side of the pocket.

I do really like that Galaxy one too... but... I think we'll go for the Performance.

I have an old hand-me-down organic original...it has a zipper on the side of the bigger pocket, but no zipper on the little front patch pocket on top of that. The performance ones look like they have a zipper on the side of the main front pocket AND on the smaller front-front pocket. If that makes sense. So, for example, you could put a diaper and wipes in one and your phone/keys in the other.
