Yeah...I hadn't either, but then the first time I tried to go diaperbagless on a longer outing (to the zoo) a few weeks ago, I packed the zip pocket pretty well with snacks and stuff in addition to the diaper and everything else. So I stuck my camera in the little pocket thinking it would be easier to grab from there. We got to the first animal, and DD wanted to get down for a closer look. I unsnapped the Ergo without thinking and: camera, meet ground. Lesson learned!

OK, I had to actually get up and go look at the pocket. I see it now! Yes, I don't think I have ever used the small one, just the zippered one. And I'm looking at the Performance again online, and seeing two zippers. Nice.

Also, did you see the Performance Cargo Pack? It looks like a small diaper bag that attaches to the body of the Performance! Even says it has easy access outside pockets for keys and cell phone, and room on the inside for other stuff. Man... last night I added up the cost of the Performance + Performance infant insert (it matches in color) + suck pads and it came out to about $190, which is ok, because we have that much... the cargo pack is $28. Hmmm... it kind of seems worth it though... cause seriously... it's pretty hard to carry a bag when you're wearing an Ergo... and this would take away the need for it! Hmmm.... OH! And it says that the cargo pack has a removable strap so you can use it as a shoulder bag when it's not on the Ergo. Hmmm... I'm getting sold here...

Tried three times to reply to this thread earlier but pg.org failed me or my internet failed me!

Anyways, between the two I'd choose the performance. There's nothing wrong with the sport, but I love the green performance. Though The red sport IS newer and I LOVE red (which really tempts me if I ever decide to trade Ergos), but man, I do enjoy that pocket and you just don't get that with the sport.

The non-zippered pocket is to stuff the hood into. You can put other stuff in there, but that's why Ergo made it as far as I know. When Aiden is on me I can't reach anything in that pocket. However the zipper pocket with the zipper on the side I can totally unzip it and get stuff out if it while wearing him on my back!

And if you need to carry a bit more on you, there's always the Be Quick. I seriously love this thing still since I can attach it to any carrier I use! Ha ha!

I saw those packs and am seriously considering getting one...we are traveling to Costa Rica in June, and DD and I are meeting DH down there, which means for the flights out I will be alone with a lap toddler. I want to travel as lightly as possible!!!!

Pocket for hood: ohhhhhh....that makes sense. I usually just let it dangle! I'll try stuffing it in there

What a nice gift!!! I so badly want a new Ergo since I ended up having a boy. My current Ergo is pink with flowers and although it really doesn't matter since the baby obviously won't care his ride is all girly, I am just using it as a reason for a new one I really want one of the new print ones, this one to be exact http://store.ergobaby.com/Baby_Carri...er/BCO001PPB84. I need to save my $$ now!
I do have the infant insert and really liked it!! I wouldn't want to put a newborn in it because for me it just didn't feel right. I think I started putting DD in at 2ish months? I cannot remember. I would choose the performance over the sport. I love the green one! How nice you can get that cargo pack too!

just wanted to let you know that babysteals.com often has the ergo carriers and the cargo detachable pockets on major sale, as far as i could tell they are one of the only 'bargain' stores to be authorized as the ergo site lists all over the place that they don't do this! just thought id throw that out there, you can order off the archives page if it's available.
wtg mil for a great gift!!!! have fun shopping!

edit: of course that being said i just looked and there isn't any on the archives but i know i see them often.

Mara, I know I have seen them on there before as well, but I have never seen the Performance ones. I also just have to wait until I get home so that I can deposit the cash they gave me into a bank account and then use my CC to buy online... but without the cash in the account, can't use the CC!
