that is an interesting thought! We didn't buy a baby swing or bouncy chair, and inherited my sister's jogging stroller - so lots of savings there. While pregnant I was definitely anti-stroller, and like a lot of other FTMs, have "relaxed" considerably since actually being in the thick of parenting. That being said, I hate the stroller and so does Laszlo, so we've used it exactly twice now.

A very interesting take! I love it! My own savings are pretty hard to calculate exactly, but I definitely saved money when you think about it like this. A lot of my costs were deferred anyway since I was so lucky in the hand-me-down and craftiness/thrifting department, but BW saved me the infant seat, bouncer, and playpen for sure.
As far as strollers, we were given a bunch but hardly ever used them until she started getting really heavy and I didn't have the Ergo yet. Even so, though, we only ever used a simple (but good quality) umbrella (other than one really horrible experience with the cheapest umbrella you can buy, in NYC: NEVER AGAIN). I never felt the need for anything fancier, since if I was doing anything even remotely challenging to an umbrella stroller, I had carriers to fall back on--even before the Ergo. I, too, hated strollers and didn't use one AT ALL until she was about 7 or 8 months old. And now am back to hardly using it
Well, we certainly have not saved money by BWing but it's good know others have! My son is a motion junkie so even with BWing we still used a bouncer and swing a lot that first year. And we own two strollers, neither one of them cheap (BOB and a Quinny Buzz). I LOVE my strollers (for a stroller ), but they don't get a ton of use right now. I bought them to last through multiple kids though and they do have their purposes (like I had a c/s and DH went back to work after a few days so boy was I happy to have a stroller that my car seat snapped into!). I have a feeling that whenever #2 comes around it'll get more use. DS doesn't mind the stroller, but he'll let me BW him longer than he'll let me stroll him.
Its really hard to say if we've saved money by BWing. Sure, I skipped the infant seat and the playpen. But, I bought 5 carriers in addition to the one I received as a gift (even on sale they were a few $100 all together). I also bought a new BOB stroller, which we do get a lot of use out of. There are lots of other parenting choices we've made that have certainly saved us money (BFing & CDing, for example) but I can't say BWing has.
