Wore DD at the zoo all afternoon today. She had a BLAST pointing out the animals and really liked the giraffes, elephants and camels. I need to figure out a good way to carry all the stuff we need though. I need a bag that can carry an adult canteen type bottle, two sippys, a cloth diaper, a wetbag, a pull-up, change of pants & socks for DS in case he gets pee on himself at the toilet, and snacks. Problem is, if I carry DD on my back, where do I put this bag anyway? Today DH was with us, so it was fine, but if I want to go to the zoo by myself, how do I handle this? I really don't want to bring the stroller.
I often wear a messenger style bag across my chest and then put the carrier/DD over it. The one strap doesnt really get in the way...but then you do have the bag at your hip. What kind of carrier are you using? I've been looking at getting that little cargo pack for the Ergo...that plus a messenger style bag would prob fit everything!

Mara (nates), when on my front I still wear "close enough to kiss" but DH and I both prefer to wear waists of SSCs at our hips when back carrying toddler weights. when I'm not replying from my phone (no Internet currently), I'll find info to help with back carries and sleeping. Most that I can think of involve babies, but I'm sure I can find some toddler related info.
Only BWing today was in my B'roo as I walked around the nicest base exchange I've ever seen (marine base that's out of town).
Mel, messanger bag under the carrier!
duh! Thanks girls! Wonder why I never thought of that!
We all miss the obvious at times!
Just used SSCs today to wear our running errands for stuff we needed for our new house.
mel that sounds like a great day! i was wondering the same thing, messenger bag sounds like the way to go unless a large enough fanny pack can be found! good idea mara!
jackie thanks i tried jade a little lower yest so she was just above my hips and that seemed okay! shoulders are a little less sore!
wore moby in a double hammock to walk the dog for an hour yest! then took stroller for shopping, sometimes the extra room is just needed!! fyi i'm doing the biggest loser challenge and last week we dubbed it 'the moby experiment' wearing/carrying a 15lb child is 250-300 cal and hour (your weight depending) and jade is almost 30lbs. that was my exercise for the week.... lost 2.6 lbs! the moby experiment is a raging success, score another one for bw'ing! pushing a stroller is half that calories burned!!! thought i'd share a happy bw'ing news!!!
Awesome on the weight loss Mara!! Never thought about BWing also helping with weight loss, yet another wonderful benefit!
I have been BWing everyday almost all day. Today it was in the 60s and sunny and we went to the park! Little man slept for about 2 hours in the ring sling while his brother and sister got to play. I am LOVING this ring sling! I wear it wayyyyy more than my Moby and I used to think that was the best carrier for newborns (I do still have Moby love though )! It is just soooo easy to put on and throw him in. I have to use one hand to support him but it is amazing what you can do with 1 arm/hand.

I ended up not wearing Oakley at dinner the other night--he nursed right before we left and was so deeply sleeping in his carseat that dh just carried him in, we set his carrier in a carseat sling and had dinner and chatted and got all the way back to the car before he started to stir! So we hurried home so he could eat again. I'm just glad he was so good during our date--he usually hates the carseat and cries when it isn't moving.
So, when do you usually start letting a baby's legs be out of the moby? I have only carried him with legs tucked in so far in the moby.
