I had an older guy come up to me last week and ask if he could get a ride. He was a bit creepy about it really.

lol love the random comments! mostly good, mostly lots of questions, but yep get the odd 'you're too big now' or 'it's only for babies' even had a 'that mommy must be too tired all day to play like your mommy' ah i guess ignorance is bliss sometimes! though from the comments/looks/questions i think that most of the moms that say the negative stuff either don't know a thing or really wish they knew more and are afraid to ask! in the right carrier 30 lbs feels like nothing, and she's happy there, and we get more done in one trip! i think the best has to be longer bus rides with her up there, you can here the comments to their children and as soon as i look at them a few times they start asking logical questions and realize that it's not bad at all!
ooh my FAV though is the little old ladies, the ones you KNOW carried their babes as long as they could and say the 'man we didn't have those back in my day, really wish they had though!' LOL!

nothing today, mood is crashing and it was all i could do just to get out of the house and walk the dog with jade on foot, can't wait for the zoo bus route/aunties car to be available!

Yup I had some little old ladies comment one day that seeing the carrier I had and how easy it was and hands free almost made her want another baby, she had to be in her 60's or 70's. After I left they were still talking about how easy it would have been if they had carriers like that when they had their babies.

I've gotten that one too. And the creepy guy, although DH also got that a lot when we were hiking, so maybe it's not so much creepy as just a bad joke. Probably depends

    Gotta love the comments.
I never have the heart to tell people that baby carriers did exist back then, they just didn't know about it. Woven wraps (though they used to be shorter, think mexican rebozo like) have been around for a very, very long time. Pods (reminds you of MTs without the waist strap) have been around for centuries.

The little old ladies are cute and nice I think! I think most of the men are trying to joke but it doesn't come off that way!

Last week at the grocery store one lady almost had a heartattack when I was putting Olivia on my back. People just aren't used to back carries even when they've seen babies being carried. Another time a mom was asking how I get Olivia onto my back. She had a carrier but stopped using it when her toddler got heavy in the front carry because she didn't feel comfortable doing a back carry. I told her it takes lots of practice, stand with a bed behind you and keep doing it with your toddler until you feel comfortable with it, or use a spotter (her DH). I love when people actually want to know more about BWing!

LOL i LOVE the looks when i throw jade onto my back!! she loves to stand in front of me and get 'tossed' onto my back! mostly looks of horror until they see the squeals and smiles on her face! (under arms close to armpits and she actually jumps into it so it's all momentum!) unless i'm bored then i just squat and let her hop up into a piggy back.

yep the carriers have been around for such a long time but they were 'underground' or 'hippy gear' from stories i've been told. had a few older ladies that openly enjoyed woodstock, comment on how happy they are to see them go more 'mainstream' with the public!!

i think this board is my good luck for weight loss lately, every time i say no bw'ing i end up doing 1/2 hour plus walk with her! lol i know today will be though since it's supposed to rain and we're heading to the library for sing sign laugh and learn.

Glad to hear you're getting motivated!

I wore DS shopping today. I used my B'roo SSC and after an hour it was KILLING me at the waist. I tried wearing really really low and really really high and neither helped. Of course I didn't have another carrier on me. I think SSCs are going to have to be put away for a bit and my wrap needs to come everywhere with me. I can comfortably wear DS on my back without any waist belt with the wrap. Guess I should throw a MT into the car to stay so that I always have something on me. It should work out better than a SSC.

We went out to breakfast downtown this morning, and had to park kinda far away b/c of construction. I threw Addy in the Ergo to save my arms, and as soon as she saw me put it on she started yelling happily "Addy back! Addy back!" So I guess she likes it after all

Then I wore her around our favorite antique shop, a huge place with the coolest and weirdest stuff you ever saw. She was pretty impatient with that, but I let her play with enough (cheap little) things that we had a pretty fun and successful trip. One person with a kid that looked about nine or ten said "That is so smart to have her in here in that thing. Even this one (pointing to daughter) is getting into way too much trouble in here!" I agreed and said I would never bring a two year old into an antique shop any other way

I didn't get any BW pics but I did take a picture of one hilarious item. I sent it to my BFF (who is pregnant) with the subject "I found a theme for your baby shower!!!"

Adair, of course, wanted to take it home.

What a fantastic BWing day Leigh!

I wore Aiden in my woven (ruck tied tibetan) for awhile today while shopping and checking out everything at the Great Cloth Diaper Exchange. Man, the store I was at was overwhelming with how many CDs they have there. They even stock Dolcino woven wraps, Taylor Made ring slings, water wraps and slings, Ergos, and a couple of brands of mei tais! It was like a trip to heaven. There was even a table there from the local BWing group (I traveled an hour to another city) with carriers for people to try out and ask questions. There was one woven there - a shorty EllaRoo woven wrap. I tried it out. Too thin and diggy for me with a toddler in a ruck back carry, but I still enjoyed being able to check it out. I got a pictures, but they're all on the real camera so I'll post in a few days when I feel like uploading them.
I also wore DS in the ring sling this afternoon for an hour as DH drove a poor car salesman nuts with questions and kept making the guy go get more keys so DH could directly compare cars.
And after all that BWing for hours, I ended up throwing Aiden in a stroller for the mall there. And cursed myself for doing that. Should have made DH BW.
