I WORE YESTERDAY! WOO! Sorry--I was just so excited to have the opportunity! We went Halloween costume shopping downtown, which means parking in a garage and walking around, so it was the PERFECT situation for the Ergo. Addy was pretty happy to be worn ("I RIDE ON MOMMY'S BACK IN MY BACKPACK!!!"), although she did beg to get down inside the stores so she could wreak havoc on the exciting and colorful costumes and displays. I did not let her do that I wore her for the better part of two hours, and she and I both did great. I can't believe that that thing is still so comfortable with a 30+ lb toddler in it, but it is!
The only problem was walking between the racks in one particularly small and crowded store. I kept forgetting I was extra wide with her feet hanging out on either side, and getting caught
Hey ladies! I haven't been around in a while, but I've been wearing a lot! Still often wearing DD at the grocery store (she sleeps on my back), and wearing Z around the house or out on walks or around town or whatever. Also, we're car-less right now, and probably will be for another week (don't even get me started on the useless mechanic who had us order THE WRONG PART from the States, and then said he'd try to use parts of the new part to fix the old part, but just broke both parts in the process, so now we're waiting on new new parts from the States again and have not even a badly functioning car while we wait!)...so we have two bikes, but we only have one baby seat on one bike - and Z is too small for a baby seat anyway. SO, don't yell at me, we've been wearing Z in the Ergo and then being able to go places. Our other option for transport at this point would be taking a tuk-tuk, where we'd all be sitting in a fairly open vehicle, and Z would just be on a lap, so... on a bike in the Ergo... eh. It's funny how I just can't really get worked up about it being unsafe when it's our only option. And it's not like we're mountain biking- we're on the street, etc.
What? How did I forget to mention... last week when I went grocery shopping (while I still had a car) I had both kids. DD was sleeping so I knew I was going to put her on my back in the Ergo. Z was awake though, but, he's getting so big, juggling him from arm to arm while shopping is really not that easy. So I tied Z on my front in the mei tai, and then strapped DD on my back in the Ergo! It worked! And I was pretty comfortable. Of course I got plenty of looks- I am for sure the only expat in Vientiane who doesn't have "help" at home, so, probably most people can't understand why I'm at the store with two kids in the first place- I should either leave them at home with my nanny, or send my maid to do the shopping obviously! But I have neither a nanny nor a maid, so, shopping with both kids. I have a picture around here somewhere... let me find it.
Sorry, it's a self-shot, so that's all I could get, and it was quite bright (hence my squint).
Took our cloth diaps to my mom's to wash (she has a top loader and I can't get it to work right with my front loader). Anyway, my mom just moved so there are boxes all over her house and we set Evie up with a box of toys that she could play with, but when she was clearly needing a nap, she started following me around and getting into EVERYTHING. So I strapped her on and she konked out in minutes.
Took some flowers to the lady down the street whose husband passed away this weekend. Evie slept on my chest in the carrier. No-one came to the door, but I was thankful that she was asleep anyway in case we were invited in.
