Holiday Support Thread

Since we are going to hold off on doing a challenge until after the holiday, let's keep the support going here. We will all get to know one another from the other teams and support them. Plus, we will have weekly challenges that will focus on ways to gain perspective (Thanks to Missy for coming up with this idea)

This weekend was horrible for me. I didn't eat well at all. When I did eat, it was all crap (pies, cool whip, candy etc). I got rid of most of the pies from Thanksgiving (of course I had to save myself a piece and of course at it for breakfast LOL)

I'm so glad we'll have some support through December, I am determined to drop 8 pounds before the New Year.

Food wasn't great for me, lots of carbs and sugar and alcohol, but I am getting back on track with my calorie counting today and will get back into exercising starting with a DVD tonight. Love the mini-challenge, I'll have to start tonight.

I had a really busy Thanksgiving and got a lot done. The house is decorated for Christmas, the presents I have on hand are wrapped (I do have a few more little things to pick up), and I plan to start the Christmas candy this week - I don't plan to eat it!

We're supposed to finally get cold (hopefully for good this time) and fingers crossed snow will be with it - I think that will put me in the Christmas mood because so far it doesn't seem like it's time yet.

Hi all,

Thanks to those of you that are able to take part. This is meant to be a completely NO PRESSURE "challenge" and hopefully one that will enable us to share, gain some stress relief and support as well as enjoy one another's company. Here is a little more explaining the concept:

My idea is to enable everyone to participate in one big support thread. As a means to continue the concept (loosely) of a challenge, we will present a "focus" for each week (starting Monday.) The idea would be not to earn points for weight loss, healthy eating, etc. as normal -- but instead simply to be inspired to complete the week's focus to the best of the ability. Again - no tracking. Members may share (or not) as you wish.

Outside of that, we could just enjoy the company and sharing plans for the holiday.

My thought is in reading through the various threads on the board for this past challenge is that so many are struggling or trying to deal with stress (self incl. LOL) It is even more common issue during the holidays. Each week we will focus on various ways to help one another gain perspective. *How* people choose to interpret or meet the focus would be up to them.

Dawn has put up the first week's "mini challenge" now and we can use this thread to just chat!

Back soon to share more!

I'm thankful that we have a support thread going this month. December has always been a down month for me. Maybe it's because I live north of the middle of nowhere and it's dark by 4:30... Whatever the reason, I often battle with mood this month. Good choice for this week's challenge to take a bit of quiet time each day.

The plus side of the long, cold dark nights is that I can get a bit of crafting done. This evening I'm binding a baby quilt.

Waves at Cindy. Good to see you. I would be happy to share our cold with you as well. Seattle area generally has snow a few days a winter, but this week we're expecting some brrr with our snow. Wink

Dawn, we had a mostly healthy Thanksgiving. One advantage of a big family is that no one ends up with enough leftovers to do bad things more than half a day. Hope yours are gone and the December treats routine will stay away.

Missy, hope we can all swing by once in a while and enjoy the low-stress "challenge."

So thankful for this thread. December is hard time to get regular workouts in, but I'm hoping to get some in. Food was a little better yesterday after breakfast. I didn't bother touching any of the pie. I think I am pie-d out.

Jules, I'm glad you guys had a healthy thanksgiving. I hear you on the darkness by 4:30 and with that comes absolutely no energy for me.

Cindy, glad your thanksgiving went well. Did anyone notice that the stuff you made was GF? Great job on decorating already. I not only have the house to get done, but I have to do the office too. UGH

Missy, thank you for the great ideas and I am so glad you came up with them. We all struggle during the holidays and could definitely use the support

Well, I did well yesterday with food despite having the afternoon off. I did get some activity points as I needed to go shopping for office supplies and I'm one to look for the best deal. I also got some chores done around the house.

How is everyone else?

I thought I checked in yesterday, I must have just read I guess Smile Monday food wasn't perfect but I did get in a 30 min walk at lunch and a 30 min Tabatacise workout. Yesterday food was better and I got in a 30 min Slide & Glide workout. My abs are hurting today. Tonight I'm doing my muscle max DVD.

We got snow on Monday and are really cold, -9 this morning when I got up and it's supposed to be even colder (-15) the next few nights. It feels good to have winter here Smile and it's funny how 0 degrees can feel warm. I had a dentist appointment yesterday to get my tooth prepped for a crown. The chip went below my gum so he had to shoot more pain meds into my mouth (I was numb from my cheek bone down to my neck - ear included) and do some minor surgery on my gum to cut it away so he could gain access. I'm a little sore but Ibuprofen seems to be taking care of it all. After the appointment I ran a couple errands and picked up a few more stocking stuffers so my shopping is 100% done! That is a great feeling.

Dawn - No one said anything about my food being GF and it was enjoyed by everyone so that was a good sign. My GF pie was also the only one that was gone before the end of the night, it helped my kids had 2-3 pieces each (they were little pieces). I've been taking that female toner tea for about 3 weeks now and my period was much lighter and shorter than it had been the prior few months - it was a nice relief. I was surprised how quickly it started working and fingers crossed I won't see any cysts this month.

Jules - It seems like winter showed up all at once! I always feel like doing something crafty when it's cold out, nothing better than sitting with some hot tea reading or working on something. The dark is hard on moods, when its' dark when I get to work and dark when I leave it's a bit depressing especially since I work in a basement with no windows. It's tough on the kids too.

Missy - I sometimes do better on the no pressure challenges, I do hope to hit the 140's before the new year so I need to keep my eyes on the prize.

Cindy, Way to go on getting your workout in. You are going to be at your goal weight before the holiday!! Great job on doing better with your food. What's your secret? Did you get your workout in? Yikes, you have some cold weather there and I don't envy you at all. That is awesome that your food was a big hit!!! And to think you were worried LOL I am seriously going to have to try that tea. I know I asked you before what the brand was, but I forgot to write it down. Can you tell me again please?

AFM, food was great, but water is becoming hard for me to get down. This is odd b/c I never have a problem. I think I'm going to have to buy some lemons and switch it up a little. I have a nail appointment today and hope to get some cleaning done afterwards. I can't wait for the P90X3 to come out. I am buying it, but not starting it until the new year. I am going to start working on cleaning my kitchen of the crap food and eating healthier

Food was decent yesterday and I got in a 20 min Pilates workout between paying bills - I hate seeing how much Christmas adds up! The kids have been begging me to do a workout with me so I think I'll do my 20 min Athletic Training with them and then I'll work on cleaning the house. I'm feeling good about all the work I've wrapped up with my Christmas to-do list - very little stress so far this year Smile We were at -18 this morning, I busted out my scarf and super warm glove-mittens, figured it was cold enough for them!

Dawn - The tea is Female Toner by Traditional Medicines. They carry it at most of our grocery stores at the tea section. I just have 1 cup each night and I am so happy with how quickly it kicked in. Food is so weird with me, some days are easy and some days are hard, the busier I stay the better and if I can keep temptations at a minimum that is a big help. I hope the lemons help with your water intake, that's such an important part of keeping me from snacking too much.

Is everyone staying warm?

Cindy, how cute the kids want to do a workout with you. Were you able to get it in? Are you all set for Christmas? Are the kids getting excited about Santa coming? Yuck, yuck, yuck on the weather!!! I hope you are staying warm.

AFM, food was ok yesterday with the exception of eating at 7:30, which I was not happy with but DH was bringing pizza home. I couldn't fall asleep last night. It took forever for me to fall asleep, then it wasn't a deep sleep, so today I have a headache and I'm tired. Ugh, it's going to be a long day. Tomorrow my niece's school is having a toy bingo that I'm going to with my family. Last year I won her the American Girl doll. I'm hoping I have good luck again this weekend.

I am so tired of how slow traffic is right now, I know the roads are slick here and there but we do not need to drive 30 miles an hour on a 60 mph road! I feel like my time is being wasted and I'm not being very patient, I need to learn how to meditate while driving Smile We dropped off the mittens we picked up last week - they are for kids that need winter gear, Christmas toys, etc and every year I have the kids shop for them so they can have a proper Christmas. I'm sure I spend too much but it's for a good cause and shows the kids we need to help others when we can. We then had dinner and got in a workout - I had all 3 of them working out with me and Lucas loved my STEP and was doing squats on it. I love their enthusiasm. Tonight I'm going to do my Afterburn workout and finish cleaning the house. Saturday I have a basket to pick up, haircuts for the kids, pottery painting for grandparents Christmas presents, and I promised I'd take them sledding (it will not be warm out but we'll bundle up). Sunday we'll visit Santa and then go to the day care Christmas party. Not to mention all the other weekend things I need to do so it will be non-stop. To keep me on track for the month I have planned out my workouts to take me through the 31st, it feels good to have a plan.

Dawn - I have my shopping 100% done, presents wrapped (a couple I'm still waiting on to arrive) and Christmas cards are mailed. I have 1 box to mail to friends next week and I plan to make chocolate covered cherries, fudge, and bake the gingerbread house this weekend. Next weekend we'll decorate the gingerbread houses and I'll make kringla - then I am 100% done. Crazy it's only 2.5 weeks away! The kids are so pumped for Santa, Brodie still believes which I'm amazed by but we've discussed how some kids don't believe in him and they don't get presents because they don't believe, I think that has helped keep the faith! 4 days to P90X3 coming out, I'm really excited. I plan to start it on the 1st with Dave - I should let him know Smile I hope you sleep better tonight, I hate nights like that. How is your Christmas prep coming along?

This week was hectic. We finally had our second Thanksgiving (HA!) with those relatives that couldn't make it on the big day. We dodged ice storms last night and praying for the same tonight.

Have to laugh though as my MIL just called to check on us and while dh was complaining of temps near freezing she shared they were at 7 degrees and dropping. Seeing some of your updates for even colder -- BRRRR!!! No thanks! LOL

I have been eating ok. Exercise has been sporadic but at least some in. Sleep -- not so much. Thanks for coffee! Blum 3

The holidays are a mixed bag for me. I am missing some of our family that has passed on and worry for those that are elderly and in poor health. I have done very little shopping. Trying to accomplish some this weekend. Stress from a number of other factors... but -- with all of that I STILL love this time of year. I do find though that I have to take a step back and juggle my schedule to ensure we have some more family *down*time just for us. Otherwise we all would be over-scheduled.

Do any of you have a food tracker app? Dh had the weight watchers one but since an update over a month ago he cannot get it to work?

Hit send too quickly!

All you crafting -- please know that I love seeing pics of your creations!

I also wanted to comment that I GREATLY admire those that make your exercise a priority. That is a gift that you will never regret for yourself! I struggle still with that. WTG!

Stay warm!

Cindy, great job on being ahead of the game for Christmas. When are you ordering your P90X3? How cute that they all worked out with you!! That is awesome that they will do it and you can get your workout in. Great job on teaching your LOs about helping others. Most parents are too self absorbed that they forget to teach their kids manners and morals. Sorry about the traffic giving you a headache. I know here that people all of a sudden don't know how to drive once 1 snowflake hits the ground.

Missy, glad you were able to get together with the family that couldn't be with you for Thanksgiving. I hope you are able to find some time for just relaxing with your family.

AFM, I had my niece's toy bingo on Saturday (won a door prize), then we went out to dinner. Food was good. Sunday, we went for our tree then I had work and I was busy, so that was activity for me. Then this morning, I woke up with what feels like razor blades in my throat. Went outside to put rock salt down and ended up falling and busting my @ss and slamming my head off the ground. What a way to start my day and week. When I finally got back in the house, I must have dropped everything that I touched. Ugh, I should have just gone back to bed. My back, elbow, wrist, and butt cheek are killing me. I'm not even going to discuss my head UGH

Friday night I got in my Afterburn workout and felt the burn the rest of the weekend, she properly beat me up Smile 2:30 Friday night our power went out and it was -20 and we didn't get power again until 8:40. I was so thankful for a wood burning stove, a gas range to make breakfast, and instant coffee! Lily and Lucas got haircuts on Sat then we painted ornaments for the grandparents. We hit -24 that night, I think records were broke all around the state. Sunday we went to see Santa and it was a mess. He was 30 min late, was the worst looking Santa I've seen, called Brodie Bradie, and then they didn't give me my cd of the pics so I had to go back. Wasn't impressed at all. We had the day care Christmas party and then headed home where I made fudge that failed, it sugared on me so it's in the trash and I'll try again later. Tonight I'm doing my slide n glide muscle conditioning and will put my remaining laundry away, I hate that task!

Dawn - I plan to order P90X3 tomorrow, I'm excited! The structure will be great to start the New Year right. I have clutzy/bad days - sorry you're so sore after. Glad you didn't sprain/break anything!

Missy - I use Spark People and really like it. The mobile app is really nice and works well on my Android and the online is great too. You can input your own meals and save them so you can just pull them up as needed. It is a hectic time of year and I have to stop myself to just enjoy it and my family - a lot of the stress I put on myself is also to prepare for fun things for the kids so that's OK in my book - we're gluten free so I will be baking my own gingerbread houses and putting them together so the kids can decorate them on Saturday. It's a lot of work but worth it Smile

Cindy, sorry about the power going out over the weekend. So glad you had something to keep the house heated. YUCK on the weather. I hope it's not like that for you all winter. I'd lose my mind. Did you get your workout in? You really inspire me with your workouts. You have 3 LOs, hold a full time job, plus do chores around the house AND you still find time to workout!!! Come the new year, I am going to start taking after you. I just tried to find the link to buy the P90X3 and can't find it. Do you have it?

AFM, my back, elbow, and wrist are sore, but it could have been worse. I could have busted my head open and been lying there waiting for someone to notice. My throat still feels like razor blades are in it. I have been eating Vitamin C chewables like crazy. I also put Vick's on my kneck last night before bed. I'm going to get some EmergenC this afternoon to help get rid of this.

I had a good day yesterday, food was on track and I got in a 30 min slide n glide muscle conditioning workout. I may have to adjust my planned workout to a shorter one tonight because 45 min may be too long. I have to pull Lily from cheer 30 min early tonight so I can get the boys picked up and to the school in time for Brodie's Christmas program. He has a line and I hope he does well, I think he's a tad nervous. It will be later when we get home but we'll do leftovers for dinner and hopefully we won't be too rushed with our routine. I made my second batch of fudge last night and it turned out really creamy. Of course laundry didn't get put away so I'll try again tonight Smile

Dawn - Check this link, it's not quite out yet though it should be by the end of day. I did see the full package on Amazon but I don't need all the equipment. $119 + shipping. P90X3: Your Questions Answered | Amanda K. Jones I believe you can just get it through Beach Body.com, I'll check again later in the day. If you like the P90X3 page on facebook they will send you a notification on when the web page is up and running for sales. I think kids motivate me to get more done because it's a feeling of now or never. When they aren't around I"m really lazy.

Brodie's Christmas Program was great last night, the kids all seemed to have a lot of fun and he handled his line without issue. I did a Step+arms workout last night and my arms need a break so I'll be doing my Athletic Training Legs workout. I ordered P90X3 yesterday and express shipping was free so I should have it in a couple days. I will still probably wait to start until the 1st but I may look at starting right after Christmas. This week has been good for me with food and my weight is going down again, woohoo! Now to keep my focus Smile

Cindy, glad Brodie did a great job with his lines. Great job on getting the workout in. I didn't order my DVDs yet, but plan to by the end of the weekend. I am so looking forward to it.

I got out of work early yesterday and had some errands to run even though I felt like @ss. As I was done in the one store, DH called to tell me that our tree stand was leaking, so I had to go to the dreaded WalMart to get another one. We put the tree in the new stand and then decorated last night only after DH had a fit b/c I told him that I didn't feel like doing it. Then I went upstairs to lay down. Today I woke up feeling worse, so I'm glad the tree is done. I can't breath. I'm all stuffed up, but on a brighter note, my throat is not feeling like razor blades.

Hope everyone is doing well!! How is everyone's Christmas shopping, baking, cooking, decorating going?

AFM, food has been good but I can't wait to get back on schedule with working out (although I have to say that I'm glad I'm not doing the workout right now as I'm sick). I haven't gotten a chance to order P90X3 yet. I have to wait until payday. I have the afternoon off and have to grab 2 presents for my hairdresser and nail girl. Hopefully after that I will be able to just relax at home and not lift a finger. That is my plan anyway.

Last night I got my Athletic Training Leg Express workout in, I was dripping sweat and it was killer. Tonight I'm going Hiit 40/20 so I'll be dripping sweat again Smile Lily has her Christmas program tonight and she has a line and is really nervous, I've been building her up and hope she feels confident and better when the time comes. I dusted the house this morning before getting the kids up and will work on the rest after I exercise. I have some baking to do (gingerbread houses for the kids to decorate on Sat, Kringla per Dave's request, and now sugar cookies so Brodie has one to decorate at his class Christmas party). On top of that I have wine club on Saturday night and am feeling a bit overwhelmed - I'm not sure why but I am.

Dawn - I'm so sorry you're not feeling well, get some rest and hopefully you'll kick this cold. Do your best right now and know that you will hit it hard (when it's also easier because of New Year's resolutions) once the 1st hits.

Cindy, OMG, your picture in your signature is so freaking ADORABLE!!! I can't believe how big the kids are getting. I hope you used this as your Christmas cards. It is perfect!! Way to go on getting your workouts in. I feel like such a slacker next to you. I have NO excuse on why I am not getting anything done or doing any workouts. You are going to hit your goal weight definitely by Christmas if you keep it up.

AFM, I did ABSOLUTELY nothing yesterday after work and I think my body needed it. I feel a lot better but not 100% yet. Food was great, but water not so good. I am having a hard time getting water in all of a sudden. I am still taking extra Vitamin C and that EmergenC to combat my cold. I slept like an angel last night. I didn't want to get out of bed and I was in there by 9:30. This weekend, they are calling for 4-9 inches of snow. I am hoping we can get out to do some Christmas shopping. The only ones we have to buy for are our niece & nephew. We get our parents gift cards.

Lily did great at her Christmas program, she was her confident little self and so danged cute! I did my Hiit 40/20 workout and it was intense, I was dripping sweat and sucking air. I think they calculate at about 400 calories in those 30 min! I then cleaned the house and it feels good to have that done. I've been doing well with my diet and hope to keep the focus through the weekend, that's the hard part.

On top of everything else I have this weekend we just got invited to a b-day party so we'll be running to Target tonight for the gift and then off to the party at 10 tomorrow. I guess I'm getting up early to exercise Smile Tonight I plan to do X10 Hi/Lo, tomorrow morning I plan to do X10 cardio, and Sunday I plan to do Athletic Training Upper Body Express. If I drop any if will be Sat but we'll see how things go.

Dawn - Thanks! And it was the first picture we took, usually 50 in we finally get something that's OK. Your body needs the rest and don't feel guilty about taking it. You'll get back on track, this is not an easy time of year. I hope you can get your shopping wrapped up before the snow hits, we're happy to take it for you if you want to sent it to Montana Smile

Have a great weekend!

hi Cindy
Yeah Lillie for her concert- Niko had his on the 4th, it was so fun. What's a 40/20 class? I would love to start hitting the Y again for classes- too darn bad it's so far away- maybe I can squeeze in some classes while I'm coming in for school- or at least get a mtg with a trainer and figure out what to do on the machines. CIndy we had over 12 inches of snow- you are welcome to ALL of it!!
I have to agree with Dawn about your siggy picture- I don't know if I can use one of N from the holiday concert or anything we've done so far- he's just not so cooperating now that he's older.

bbl to write more.

hi gang!

I had way too many cookies this weekend. I'm always hungry. Just trying to figure out how to kick this. A friend of mine lost 50 pounds this past year- running. I'm not a runner, and not interested in doing that to my body, but I need to start doing something, now that my foot is feeling better.

I did a crock-pot chicken Friday- so I have lots of leftovers. Going to eat some tonight, and freeze some, so if anyone has recipes for already cooked chicken, I'd love to have some ideas sent over to me. Not sure how I'm giong to cook it tonight, but need to get going on it, or we'll be starved. I have one small sweet potoato, so I'm going to do my sweet/potato apple bake for that- off to do it now as I have the rest of the dishes cleared! Will try to check in more- I flooped on the last challenge keeping on top of the board- sorry about that.

Cindy, glad Lily did well with her lines. Great job on all of the workouts you are getting in. You are so inspiring!! Did you get your P90X3 yet? If so, have you watched any of the workouts to see how rough they are? I looked at a few on youtube and OMFG, I am going to DIE

Bonnie, take it slow so you don't reinjure your foot. Start off with walking and light weights. Winter, esp around the holidays, is always hard to get motivated and not eat.

AFM, the weekend was good. Didn't eat lots of crap like I normally would. We had a snow storm Saturday night into Sunday morning, but DH wanted to go for dinner, so off we went. He drove, so I didn't mind. The roads were like crap, but I couldn't believe how many people were still out on them. Our dinner Saturday was fantastic. I had baked haddock and he had crab cakes. Usually we eat bar (fried) foods, so it was a nice change. I haven't done a bit of christmas shopping and I'm glad I only have 2 people to get (niece and nephew). We will do that Saturday. Plus, I have to go grocery shopping

This weekend was bad for food and I'm turning that around today - hopefully the scale will be a little kind tomorrow. Friday night I took off from exercise but Saturday I was up early and did my X10 - Step workout. The b-day party was a lot of fun for the kids and then they decorated the gingerbread house, I love their creativity. Wine club was a lot of fun but that was the start of my over eating, at least I didn't over drink Smile Sunday was spent baking all day and unfortunately I sampled it too so no more sugar past these lips. I was exhausted last night but Dave wanted to try P90X3 so I joined him for the Total Synergistics and it wasn't too bad, I felt like he almost took too long of breaks at times between moves. It had a 3 min warm up and a 1 min cool-down. I'm not feeling sore but my Cathe workouts have prepared me well for it. I think I'll do the next P90X3 workout tonight but I'm not officially starting the plan since Christmas break will disrupt it.

Dawn - I'm dreading the workout that stacks push-ups and pull-ups, I think it's called the Challenge. I'll keep you posted on how they are. Glad you got a delicious meal and it made the drive worth it.

Bonnie - 40/20 is a High Intensity Interval Training so for 40 seconds you do one move and then take a 20 min break then move onto the next move. It's a hard one but such a calorie burner. Niko looked so cute in his costume. I'm happy your foot is better, if you need some workouts check out Youtube, there are a lot of free options and they are decent and vary in length. My favorite use of leftover chicken is soup. I throw shredded chicken, chopped veggies, seasoning, water and broth together and cook until the veggies are soft, yum!

Cindy, way to go on the workouts. I still haven't ordered my set yet. I think I will do it next week when DH gets paid. Great job on not being sore with the P90X3. I am dreading it as I am so out of shape.

AFM, food was good last night. I had a hair appointment right after work and surprisingly I wasn't there forever this time. Usually she talks more than she works. I get out of work early today and plan on doing laundry and cleaning up. Tomorrow my niece has an important part in her school play, so I'll be there right after work, which means dinner will be late unless I bring it with me and eat at 4:30 at work.

Food wasn't perfect yesterday, I have to stay out of the garage fridge that has the sweets! I did get in my Athletic Training Upper Body workout and I am sore today, some of it may be from P90X3 but I think most of it is from Cathe. Tonight we'll probably do another P90X3 unless Dave runs and then I'll do a cardio or leg workout. Too much on my mind right now. My mom called me over lunch and said my Grandpa is in the hospital with kidney failure and they don't expect him to make it. She also found out last night that ex-SIL is having her take her daughter 1 day earlier than thought so we're leaving 1 day earlier than planned. My mom started crying because she feels like she's letting my kids down - I don't want her to feel bad for having a kind heart and tried to put her mind at ease. What a mess!

Dawn - You'll be able to handle what I've seen so far with P90X3! That play will be so fun and she'll be so happy to have you there.

Cindy, sorry about the food, but you can't be mad at yourself b/c you have done an AMAZING job this whole year. Great job on the workout!! I'm so sorry about your grandpa. I will say some extra prayers for him and your family. Awe, I'm so sorry that your stupid ex-SIL is causing problems in your family. Your mom is way too kind.

AFM, I was able to get some cleaning done and I made a turkey breast b/c dh took it out on Sunday and yesterday was the only day I could get it cooked. So, dinner was healthy. I was so annoyed b/c I must have burned my hand 5 times b/c the stupid thing wouldn't stand up. Tonight is the play that I was told was going to be about 30 minutes now all of a sudden changed to an hour or two. I am NOT happy about that, but I will support my niece b/c she has called me 3 times this week already to make sure I was going. I am going to try to bring dinner with me and either eat at work or on the way there. Tomorrow I get out of work early again and I'm hoping to go grocery shopping. Then I have a nail appointment.

I was exhausted last night so I opted for sleep over exercise and I got a great night of sleep. Lucas slept all night for me but he sounded horrible this morning - I feel like his breathing is getting worse and it's frustrating. I hope he's better before the weekend. Tonight I'll either do another P90x3 or Hiit 30/30. I also need to do a couple loads of laundry just to get a head start on the weekend.

Dawn - Thanks for the prayers. He's been ready to go for years and if it's his time then it's his time, it's just hard with him 12 hours away. I hope the play doesn't last too long tonight, how did your niece do?

Cindy, I'm glad you opted for sleep. Your body was telling you that it was time to take a rest before you burn yourself out. How is Lucas? Is he getting sick that he is having trouble breathing? Did you hear any news on your Grandpa?

AFM, I was beyond annoyed with my family yesterday. I was told the play started at 6, so I went right down after work only to find out the doors open at 6 GRRRR. The play didn't start until 6:30. It was very cute and she was so thrilled b/c her class did the story of Mary and Joseph and she was the angel that handed baby Jesus to Mary. She is my little monster. I didn't get home until 7:45 and had to eat something small. I went upstairs to watch tv and ended up falling asleep. I have this afternoon off and of course I forgot my sneakers, so I have to go home then do what I have to do.

Last night got away from me and I didn't start exercising until 8:50 so I did a short 20 min Tabatacise workout. Tonight we'll do a P90X3 workout, Dave wants to do arms, and then I will work on laundry, cleaning, and prepping veggies for a potluck at work tomorrow. I'm ready for the weekend to be here but also can't believe I need to start preparing for a trip to my parents. My MIL wants us to stop by there place about 4 hours later than we had planned and I don't think it will happen, at this point I don't really care since our plans have been changed so many times.

Lucas sounded better this morning compared to yesterday but he still sounds miserable, at least he slept decent last night. My fingers are crossed he's better by Saturday. I haven't heard an update on my grandpa, the doctor didn't seem optimistic but I guess no news is good news.

What is everyone's plans for this weekend and Christmas?

Dawn - Sorry you spent more time at the play than needed - I'm sure your niece was over the moon that you were there. I hope you have a great afternoon and get lots done!

Cindy, that is great that you got the workout in!! Would you mind coming here and starting a fire under my @ss??? Were you able to get the workout in along with all your chores? You are making such great food choices for your holidays. When are you leaving for your Christmas with your parents?

AFM, I got some activity in b/c I was trying to find a nice pair of boots for the winter. I didn't get my grocery shopping done b/c I was running late for my appointment. I have work tonight and doubt it will be busy b/c of the holiday. I have to go shopping this weekend and I am NOT looking forward to it. I HATE last minute shopping and DH loves it. GRRRRRR I told him he will be doing the driving as I will need "adult" beverages to get me through the crowds. UGH

AF showed up yesterday and so did a very crabby Cindy - my poor kids! I did my second P90X3 workout, Agility X and it had a lot of jumping (will have to watch my knees on this) and balance but it was a good heart pumper and had me sweating. I felt so much better after exercising and was able to dust and clean the bathroom. Tonight I'll workout (either P90X3 or Hiit 30/30) and then finish cleaning, and pack. I am going to enjoy a nice glass of wine too! We're leaving tomorrow morning for my parents and will be back on Monday, much shorter than what we wanted but it will be fun. I plan to take the kids sledding and use my parents weight machine and stationary bike to burn some calories while I'm there.

Dawn - I have shopping with crowds also, breath deep and pretend no one else if there Smile What are your plans for Christmas?

Cindy, I'm sorry AF showed up and you were cranky. The same thing happened for me on Saturday, which sucked b/c I had to go shopping. So my back was killing me, had cramps, and to deal with @ssholes......not a good combo LOL. Great job on getting the workout in. I still haven't ordered mine. DH didn't get his bonus yet and that's what we are waiting for.

AFM, got lots of walking in on both Saturday and Sunday, but food was horrible. I didn't eat anything but lunch on Saturday, then had some adult beverages to get me through shopping. Then we stopped to meet a friend for a drink at dinner time. Sunday, I didn't eat breakfast but lunch and dinner were good. Too bad DH decided he was going to make cookies GRRRRR

Sorry I didn't check in at all over Christmas, it's been a fun time and I enjoyed relaxing (or chillaxing like Lily likes to say now). We had a great time with my parents and brother/niece/nephew. We took the kids sledding and got in a workout there and soaked at a hot spring on our way home on Monday. Tuesday we went sledding again, had a delicious ham dinner, and opened presents after church. I was spoiled! Yesterday we had a lazy day and didn't go anywhere, which was really nice. Played with toys and enjoyed BBQ crab legs- yum! Now that it's over I ate too much and feel sick today from it all - I'm thankful today is a fast day it will help clean my body out. The scale is reflecting my lack of focus so we'll get it all back on track today and I'll do my best to meet my goal of 140's by the 1st, I don't expect to see it but I can get close. Tonight I'm doing the entire Afterburn DVD, it's going to be hard but worth it!

Dawn - I'm right there with you on too much food and drink and those danged cookies! We are almost out of all the Christmas goodies and I am working on getting my focus back, it's not easy but we will do it! Did you get some good gifts for Christmas?

I was so tired last night but I forced myself to workout and wasn't up to cardio so I did Slide n Glide muscle conditioning, it felt good to do and tonight I plan to do a Hiit workout. I'm focusing today on sticking to my calorie allotment and so far so good - this weekend will be harder but I'll do my best. My weekend will be taking down Christmas decorations and cleaning. I want to try to set up a play date for the kids if I can find the phone number and if not I think I'll take them to the Museum of the Rockies. I did get some really good news today, the raise/promotion they put a request in for me was approved so I'll be bringing home a bit more money, not sure how much yet but I'm happy.

Have a great weekend everyone!

We're gearing up for clearance sale day. Cleaned yesterday and today the kids brought in the wheel barrow to hold all the loot. Smile

Cindy, I love your under the tree picture. Dawn, I hear you on the bad combination. Traffic here seems to bring out the worst in people.

Eating gluten free has sure helped with holiday food will power. I'm working on taking off the pounds that I gained during the year, but nothing extreme, just plugging along. I've signed up for the new challenge and am trying to check in here a bit more regularly.

Ugh, I have been eating horrible the last few days. I can actually feel myself gaining weight. I'm so frustrated b/c DH keeps making cookies, buying them and other sweets. I still haven't ordered the P90X3, but I'm doing that tomorrow since I get paid. Hope everyone is doing well.

Hi Dawn- holidays are the pits to try to stay on top of a diet- or nerves- I've eaten so much bad stuff too. I made up some bean salsa (black beans, corn, tomatoes, celery green pepper, crushed tomatoes, and salsa) dip- and brought along carrots. I figured I could try to eat healthy at least a little bit. That helped. (I went to a group party on Sat night) and I did a ton of work- helped the "host" put together his house for the party. Good thing- as he needed the help. I worked non-stop for the 45 minutes (or more) that I was there!

I scratched the paint on the back top roof of the car trying to scrape off the ice. EEERRRR. Oh well - it's about as tall as me- so at least it's not totally obvious, but you can see the nicks in it.

I just got out to scrape off the car so I could conquer some of the stress and now I'm back inside and will get back to work and organize papers and such.

Who has plans for new Years? I'm thinking of just sitting in- with a new friend of mine Smile

Bonnie, that sounds like a healthy snack. I do fine until DH brings something unhealthy in the house. I need to learn to just ignore the food he brings in. Sorry about the car, but at least it wasn't really bad.

AFM, yesterday's food was a lot better and I'm hoping this is the start to a great new year. Dh made chocolate chip cookies last night and I only had one and decided I was done with the sweets. I will put them on a plate Thursday morning and send them to work with him. We have to go grocery shopping this weekend for the healthy food. I plan on ordering our dvds today and hopefully get them in time for the new challenge.

Cindy, what package of P90X3 did you purchase?

Well, NYE was good. I didn't eat a lot of crap or drink too much. We stayed home and had a great night. We both must have been exhausted and needed to sleep as we didn't get up until 11 yesterday. Then we did absolutely nothing all day. We stayed in our pajamas and just relaxed. I ordered our P90X3 on NYE and decided to get the ultimate package since DH said that some of the stuff was well worth the deal they were giving.

How was everyone else's New Year's? Anyone make any resolutions?

Sorry I've been MIA. On Friday after work my mom called to tell me my grandpa had passed away. I was able to convince Dave to do the trip with me (11 driving hours one direction with good roads) and I spent that evening and all Saturday taking down Christmas decorations, cleaning, laundry, preparing to be gone from work, and packing. Sunday we drove to Rapid City then Monday did the last part of the trek to Mitchell, SD - roads were thankfully great for us. My parents were there so the kids were excited to see them and overall they did great with traveling and being well behaved at the funeral. New Year's Eve we had the funeral and then caravanned to my parents house, roads were good until Rapid City and then we had freezing rain, snow drifts, and just cruddy roads so it was slow going. Got home yesterday and today it's back to school and work for all of us. I opted for bed over exercise last night but tonight I'll get back on track, not sure with what yet but it will be something. I'm also focusing on getting back to eating right - clean and healthy!

Dawn - I didn't get any of the packages for P90X3 since we have everything, we just did the DVDs. When is yours supposed to arrive? Great job on having a healthy New Year's Eve!

Hi all. Mind if I join you until the next challenge starts?

Jules - I'm doing gluten-free now, too (or at least mostly gluten-free). Just started recently. Smile
Dawn - Let me know how you like P90X3. I'm still doing TurboFire because I haven't completed all 12 wks yet. I had to start over twice, and had some delays. I'm currently on Week 5 again and am determined to finish it. I'm also thinking of alternating with Jillian's 30-Day Shred (Level 3) so I can build my upper body strength. I don't like doing strength training via resistance bands (as it is with the strength training portion of TurboFire).

Hi to everyone else Smile

Excited about our family's new way of eating. Pretty much grain-free and gluten-free (based on the book, "Grain Brain.") I say "pretty much" because I still allow a little carbs from grains/sugar, just WAY less than what I was doing before (which is why I gained 4 lbs over the holidays :eyeroll:) In 3 days I've lost 2.5 lbs so far, woo hoo. I haven't run or workout out for over a week due to some weird back issues, but doing better now so planning to get back to it tonight!

Oh--forgot to mention. I'm also very excited about doing my very first Mud Run in March! So I'll be training for that (which is why I want to work on upper body strength). For those who aren't familiar with what a Mud Run involves, it's like a military obstacle course with running in-between. The one I'm doing will be 5K.

Cindy, I am so sorry to hear about your Grandpa. Thoughts and prayers to you and the family. I'm glad Dave went with you for the trip. I don't blame you about opting for bed instead of exercise. You had a very busy, stressful couple of days. How long did it take for you to get the dvd's? I'm hoping I have mine by the 11th to start on the 13th with the new challenge.

Mary, we don't mind at all. That's what this thread is for. Glad you are joining the challenge. Way to go on the new way of eating for the whole family. I will definitely let you know what I think. Cindy has been doing it for a couple weeks now alternating with her other workouts, so she might have some more imput right now.

AFM, I didn't have work in the afternoon, so I went shopping. I bought 2 clearance sweaters for the price of 1 on sale (they were originally $50 each and I got both of them for $34) Then off to my nail appointment I went. We got about 8 inches of snow and I didn't have to come in to work until noon, which was great b/c I slept like crap. DH's phone was ringing off the hook with people calling off. I woke up this morning with a headache only to look outside and see that DH (who was up at 5:30) didn't clean my car off for me. WTF??????? I was beyond furious with him. So after my shower, out I went to shovel myself a path and clean my car off. I then sent him the nicest test thanking him for cleaning it off, it was much appreciated. STUPID MEN!!!!! Tonight, the stupid lady running bingo is actually going to have it. It is going to be close to -5 and they are going to have bingo. Unbelievable!!! I am in a bad mood and going to bingo is only going to make it worse. I have a counselor appointment tomorrow which I am looking forward to.

Dawn - yay for the sweater deal! Sorry you had to deal with all that snow. Glad you didn't have to go into work until Noon so you could sleep in.

Hope everyone is doing okay. How has the food and exercise been going lately?

I did Level 3 of the Jillian 30-Day Shred workout last night. I had never done Level 3. It was...um... interesting. Wink Definitely will work my core and upper body strength! Which is just what I need to get ready for the mud run in March. Need to look for a 5K race to run in Jan and Feb, as my goal is to run one 5K per month. Will also be starting to train for 10K. After that I'll train for a half marathon, and eventually a marathon. Can't believe I just said that, lol. Never in my life would I ever have imagined running a marathon. But I have been told I can do it. I just have to believe it myself.

Eating was a bit off today, but tomorrow is another day! Got ready to leave this evening to go pick up dinner (was too exhausted to cook) and the car wouldn't start. My daughter (who's 6 for those who don't know) said, "Well, I guess we'll just have to walk then." Love that girl. I actually would have walked if it hadn't been about a 2-mile walk one way in the dark, in the cold, and with having to cross an area with major traffic coming off the interstate. DH would not have approved, Lol. So I called them and had the food delivered instead. They got my order wrong, but no biggie. It was food. Smile DH will try to jump start my car tomorrow and then take it to have the battery and alternator checked (it tried to start, but the whirring sound just got slower and slower).

In other news, DH's job will be ending on Jan. 17. The man he's been working for won't be able to afford him anymore :/ So DH is looking for another job. Prayer/thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

Mary, way to go on getting all those workouts in and all the running you do. Way to go on working so hard and getting into marathons. Were you able to get your car started? Praying DH finds another job soon so you don't have to be stressed about it.

AFM, weekend was good with food. I am slowly getting back into the eating, but water is killing me. I am never bad with water, but recently it just isn't going down so easy. I am hoping to run to the grocery store after work for just a few things, then will shop on Saturday for our food change. I got an email saying that my P90X3 shipped yesterday and should be here by the 11th. We are so excited to start as we both feel like baby cows. LOL

Dawn - Thanks, the car got fixed on Sat, it was just the battery Smile Yay for doing good on the food and for the new workout coming in soon! It's always exciting for me to start a new workout, too.

Haven't done so hot on the food here the past couple of days, especially today when I went crazy and bought some Krispy Kreme donuts while at the store and had two when I got home. *Smacks head with palm repeatedly* Oh well, hope to work it off with tonight's workout Lol. Saturday I did the TurboFire 55 EZ workout (still waiting for it to be "easy"--Lol), then yesterday went for a one mile walk with my DH and DD. This evening I was supposed to go to Run Club to run 3 miles, but I don't think I will. It's supposed to be really cold here tonight and we're not used to that kind of cold here in FL, plus I don't have the right kind of running gear for super cold conditions, especially cold wind. So I'll probably just do another Jillian or TurboFire workout.

Did some cleaning this morning and when I went to vacuum my DD's room, I had to do a lot of picking up and organizing before I could even think about vacuuming. I have her clean her general floor area every night before bed to avoid mass hysteria, but things get shoved in corners, under her table, under/behind her bed, under the shelves, etc., and one of her toy containers got turned over so I had to clean all that up, too, before I could vacuum. I did it while she was doing one of her online classes (she's homeschooled--started it this year--for those who don't know). UH-MA-ZING how much damage one little girl can do to a room in such a short amount of time. LOL
