    Default another doctor......

Last week I took Alana to the Pedi because she was complaining about her eye. She has complained off & on about her eyes for over a year now. We've tried allergy drops and lubricating drops but neither helped. Last Tuesday I noticed her eyelid was a bit swollen and she said her vision in that eye was blurry. Her Pedi wasn't in Wednesday afternoon so we saw another doctor in the practice. He said she could possibly have iritis and was concerned about her vision loss. She was 20/25 in the right eye, 20/40 in the left (the one that was bothering her). At her last check-up she was 20/25 in both eyes. So, he referred her to an ophthalmologist and we see him tomorrow. I know next to nothing about vision tests, but 20/40 doesn't sound so bad.....right?

Anyone have any idea what we can expect at this appointment? I'd like to prepare her the best I can but I've only had 1 eye exam and it went horribly (they did something screwy with the drops and my eyes stayed dilated for 3 days!!).

Are you taking her to see a pediatric ophthalmologist, or a regular one? I had to take one of my twins in for issues she was having with her eyes when she was 4, and we went to a specialty pediatric op. It was AWESOME. They knew how to deal with children, and made the visit as kind and gentle as possible. The best part was that they had equipment that was specially fit for children.

Either way, op appointments are usually not very painful at all. Most ops will make a game out of most of the diagnostic stuff for kids. I don't think that you have too much to be worried about. Good luck!

This doctor practices general and pediatric ophthalmology with our clinic in town. I considered making an appointment with a doctor that is part of the children's hospital we use, but the wait time probably would have been longer and it is over an hour away. I hope this doctor knows his stuff!

They must not be too bad because when we went to the dr back in 2010 those were Eli's EXACT measurements in even the same eyes and they didn't do anything.

Well.....though I didn't care for this doctor he seems to think that the only thing wrong with her eyes is that they are dry. It sounded like a lame diagnosis at first, but after thinking about it he's probably right. My Mom had to have some procedure done to her tear duct and is now on prescription eye drops for life. My eyes have been dry the last few years too, and over the Summer I tore my cornea because my eyes were so dry. So anyway, dry eyes makes sense and we're going with that. I found some good gel drops that she says feels good (the liquid ones did nothing for her) and we're using those twice a day.

Unfortunately the diarrhea has started again.....several times a day for the last week. Ugh........
