    Default Dermatology Appointment

Alana saw the dermatologist again on Monday to have her warts treated. Most of them are nearly gone but a few new ones have popped up. Stubborn things. She deals well with the pain and still thinks it is worth it.

While we were there I had her check the mole on Alana's scalp. It is the strangest looking thing, and to be honest I wanted her to verify that it was indeed a mole (I thought it was a tick at first, lol). She studied it for quite a long time then said, "That doesn't look so good." The thing is really strange looking.....tan on the outside, black in the middle, and inside the black is a whitish-blue spot. Because Alana is so young she wanted a second opinion before removing it. The lady we see is actually a PA and she wanted the dermatologist to take a look at it. Unfortunately she's on vacation. So, we have to wait 2 weeks to have her seen again.

In talking about this stupid mole she let the word "melanoma" slip. I'm sure she saw the crazy panicked look on my face so she tried to assure me that it was probably just a crazy looking mole that just needed to be watched. I'm sure that's all it is but this will be a long two weeks anyways.

What a scary word to hear. If it's any comfort, they are frequently caught before they get dangerous. A good friend of ours just had melanoma removed from his chest. My mom had some sort of skin cancer (maybe basil cell?) removed from her nose.

I don't think I personally know anyone who's had it metastasize so I think that with skin cancers we're all so alert we're catching them in time now.

You're absolutely right Natalie. I do feel better about the situation with each passing day.

We go back next Tuesday. Talk about a long 2 weeks! I'm sure everything is fine. I'm just a worrier by nature, lol.

It is, but she has been going every 2 weeks to have her warts treated. The dermatologist was actually booked up next week but the PA said she wanted us squeezed in, that 3 weeks was too long to wait. Tuesday will be here before you know it and I'm actually starting to dread it. Alana can be a tad dramatic, and if they say that thing has to come off I might just cry with her, lol.
