Default Have Any Of Your DH's.....

Have any of your DH's taken your little ones for tests or procedures and you stayed home with other little ones? Eli is having an MRA and Echo on Thursday.

Um I should probably back up as I don't think I've mentioned it here (I did on Eli's FB page).

Okay so a few weeks ago Eli started complaining his neck near the incision site was hurting. He complained to several people to the point of crying which I had to be called out of church because they were concerned. I told my DH we should maybe call the dr to have them check him out. We had an u/s of his arteries that go to his brain and the very artery that was stealing the blood is now missing. They believe he has a massive blood clot in his left vertebral artery. His heart problems can cause even more problems since now he is relying on only one major artery to supply his brain stem with the blood and oxygen it needs. Anyway, they are double checking with an MRA to confirm the blocked artery.

Okay so back to the question. All this is causing major deja vue from 2 years ago. I'm NOT dealing with the stress well at all. DH said he would take him for the tests. He just wants me to go the following week to meet with the dr to talk about the results. Have any of your DH's gone and you stayed home? I'm feeling like the worlds worst mom, but I just cannot take the drs flippant attitudes anymore.

Oh I should also note, I'm glad i didn't take him to a Chiro yet. If this is the case he won't be able to go because the blood clot could dislodge and kill him.

I have done all of this except a dr appointment for a rash last week. I didn't think Dan asked enough questions so I ended up talking with them on the phone afterwards. I was home with pneumonia so I really couldn't go but it's not like Dan did a *bad* job, he just didn't ask the questions I would have

I just posted on the other thread about hubby taking Madi for her surgery! I do feel awful, and I'll probably be a wreck that day at work, but I just can't justify missing another day while he sits home and does nothing (he's off that day). Plus, I think it makes him feel good that I trust him enough to handle things while I'm away (I admit, I have major control issues).

Typically I handle all of the medical stuff. Hubby will take them to Pedi visits if they are sick and he is off work that day. I don't want to miss work because they have a lingering cough. But hubby is a big wuss and can't stand to see them hurting or uncomfortable in any way. Sometimes I have to use my stern Mommy voice and tell them, "You are going to do this. This isn't an option." He'd be more likely to scoop them up and take them out for ice cream if they even whimpered, lol. For example, this Friday Alana is having a pill cam procedure. She has to swallow a pretty hefty sized pill and then we can go on about our business for a few hours and enjoy Orlando before returning to the hospital. The dummy pill was a little difficult for her to swallow but I convinced her that it was necessary and just a part of life. Hubby couldn't watch - he was in the other room praying she wouldn't choke! He'll be going with us Friday but he'll definitely be out in the lobby!!

If I were you I'd let hubby take him. You shouldn't have to do all the medical care because it is really wearing on you. Be thankful that you have an involved husband and be confident that he can handle things.

I ended up going. I couldn't take it. I'm too much of a control freak I guess. However, Eli did AWESOME!! He never takes going to sleep well and fights horribly. But yesterday he did awesome. I bribed him, but hey whatever works.

Angela, I'm a bit of a control freak at times too but I'm learning to let go. Not being present for Madi's surgery will be a big step for me but I'm confident hubby can handle it. I actually think it will be a good bonding experience for the two of them.

I'm glad Eli did well being sedated. I think it tends to get easier as they get older because they understand more (and bribes work better, lol). Alana swallowed her pill cam like a champ yesterday and then we spent the day at Downtown Disney and playing putt-putt. Our kids are awesome!

YAY Alana!!!!! I thought I was doing good by letting him make the phone calls. LOL Guess I'm not ready for the next step. LOL

On a side note we did get a copy of the MRA on disk. It is VERY clear the artery that was stealing the blood is no longer present. As I understand the only reason it would disappear (since we know he did have it and it's not a congenital thing) would be a blood clot. Trying not to think too much about how big the clot is. And they did a MRA (MRI?) of his spine. Now I wish I understood how to read them. I am assuming it's normal but that might be because I'm trying not to get too worked up over it.

When is your appointment to discuss the results with the doctor? It is hard not to be overcome with anxiety waiting on official results or findings. We should know about Alana's pill cam and leg biopsy either Monday or Tuesday and I'm trying not to go crazy in the meantime. Enjoying a nice relaxing day at home today....trying not to Google.....lol.

Please let us know how the appointment goes! This week will be a very telling week for our little ones. I believe this pretty much concludes all of Alana's testing so the doctor will have to combine all of the findings and make a decision. I haven't even scheduled an appointment to hear what he has to say. I'm terrified.
