Isaiah's in the hospital again UPDATED AT BOTTOM

We took him to the ER on Thursday because the abscess on his incision started to drain. They took it out at 11 pm that night. They found significant infection at both the site of the battery (abdomen) and the electrodes (scalp). The culture came back positive for staph, but they don't yet know the exact species. He will be on IV antibiotics for at least 6 weeks and will not be able to have the implant reinserted for 3 months. He was doing better until last night. He started having a real struggle around 3 pm yesterday and continued to struggle with his movement all night, not responding the way he should have to his medications. I spoke with neurosurgery this morning, and we have a plan in place. Isaiah's asleep right now, so I can't say for sure how he's doing. (His symptoms only show when he is awake.)

Poor guy. I can't even imagine how stressful this must be on everyone. I'll continue to pray.

Big Hugs... I hope things get figured out soon. IV antibiotics can really do a number on your system.

Poor kiddo (and poor mom and family!). I hope that he starts getting better ASAP!

He's back home now. His dystonia is worse because he has only one stimulator and because he is getting over the infection (which turned out to be staph) and because he also has a sinus infection (again) that he's recovering from. We have an appointment tomorrow to get the remaining stimulator turned up a notch to see if it helps.

Thanks for the update. I thought he had everything removed. I hope that the remaining stimulator can help him, and that his infections clear up soon. We need a healthy Isaiah!

Do you still have help?

We still have 7 days a week of overnight nursing and 7 days of home health aide for 8 hours during the day.

Thank heaven for that! Sleep means some sort of sanity for coping with the present and planning for the days ahead.
