    Default Martin and kafo's.

First of all sorry I have been mia for so long, I have been lurking off and on.....just quiet is all.

OK guys...I need some help....Martin is getting bilateral kafo's (knee ankle foot orthodics) basically leg braces from his thigh to his foot. This is all fine and dandy, minus me being a moron and leaving it this long thinking his legs would fix themselves....anyhow....We are going to see if cops for kids will pay for them as we are looking at around 7000 for the braces. Where else could we look for funding? Any ideas? We are in BC Canada.

Just because they're boys doesn't mean they have less rights to genital integrity.

Seems to me like they're covered by BC Health, as long as you have pre-approval:

What is their explanation for non-coverage? I sometimes hate prov. health care. When I had bunion surgery a few years back AHC decided "no, we're not gonna pay" when there was clearly no reason for them to say that. I must've made a couple dozen calls within a week or so and they finally paid with a "Oh, you screwed up the forms, so don't blame us", and that was a total crock of $hit. Does the hospital have any kind of patient advocacy office? Maybe they could help.

I don't live in Canada so I'm no help since I don't know the system. Just wanted to off support and Don't feel bad though I did the same thing with Eli and everyone wondered why he wasn't in speech or anything last year. I just thought he would outgrow things and they would fix themselves. I was apparently in denial.

Heath has some and our insurance would not pay. We where able to get medicade to cover them because he is special needs. If you have a special needs child there is a type of medicade that will cover the copays and anything else that your first privet insurance won't. AFO's and hearing aids have been the 2 big helps.

Contact Shriners. I know Diane has brought Mikey down to the States and to Shriners a few times.
I know some people who took their granddaughter to Shriners because her parents left her club feet not completly fixed. And they did great work.

I hate to admit it but this is why I don't work and I am on the fence about getting remarried . As soon as I do we will no longer get food stamps or medical care. Now I don't like messing with the system and if I was married and had more income then yea I would not miss the food stamps anyway but OMG just the co-pays after my x's insurance (he is still the primary insurnce holder for them) was $200 last month. Thats no testing, no dr vists and non of the other services. It would easy for me to say Heath gets $500 of co-pays after our privet insurance without testing each month, thats just his regular care! I don't know what we would do without the fed's help in paying that co-pay bills. I don't feel it is ok to ask Bill to not only take on regular bills of adding me and my 3 kids to his house hold food bill but then Heath's medical needs. So we stay unmarried and I stay on the system.
