Update on Alana

She's doing wonderful! She finished the Suprax (strong antibiotic) a few weeks ago and has been symptom free since! I'm not sure if it was the medicine or eliminating the foods that we now know she's allergic to (or both). Regardless, she isn't coughing and her peak flow readings are consistently high. Yay! The ridiculously high pollen counts don't even seem to be bothering her.

She had another competition this past weekend and did outstanding. She won the "Sugar & Spice" award (a fun little personality award), 1st runner up for Petite Miss Starpower, and 2nd place overall! We were ecstatic! She's such a hard little worker and I'm glad it is paying off for her.

I don't know if I've mentioned it before, but Alana has been battling these stubborn warts on her hands for the last few years. We've tried everything to get rid of them, including duct tape (suggested by the Pedi). Unfortunately they kept getting bigger and multiplying. The Pedi said her body just wasn't strong enough to fight the virus because the meds she's on lowers the immune system, so she referred us to a dermatologist. The dermatologist applied some sort of medicine to the warts which caused them to blister and peel. The first round was minimally bothersome for her, but this second round (she got yesterday afternoon) was excruciating. I felt so terrible for her but she was insistent that it was worth it (she's very embarrassed by the warts). I let her stay home from school today so I could give her Motrin (I needed a day off too! lol) but she's doing much better now, running and playing. She goes for round 3 on the 11th and I hope it isn't too bad for her!

I'm so glad she is doing so well both physically and medically. I had that wart problem when I was little too. The drs told me the same thing. Glad they have things now they can do about them because back then they didn't. I would have let her stay home from school too.

I spoke too soon. When I picked her up from her church class last night she could barely speak, her throat was so sore. I gave her some Benadryl and put her in bed with me. She tossed and turned and whined all night, poor thing. She's eating and drinking this morning but I'm keeping her home from school because she has a fever. This sucks.

Seems this virus was rather short lived. She's feeling much better now and barely has a temp. I'm hoping she can return to school tomorrow.

Her staying home today turned out to be a good thing though! We had several tornadoes in our area and I would have been very concerned had she been at school. Unfortunately one ripped right through our neighborhood and there's quite a bit of damage. We have a little roof damage (no biggie) and we have tons of debris in our yard. We live directly across from the airport which is hosting the annual Sun N Fun fly in (people come from everywhere for this event!). Here's an article about what happened there: http://nycaviation.com/2011/03/tornado-hits-sun-n-fun-airshow-in-florida-flipping-planes-and-damaging-hangar/

Natalie - our neighborhood is literally right across the street. We have been looking forward to Sun N Fun since we moved into this house. We sat outside in the backyard today watching the Blue Angels for over an hour. Talk about amazing! Tonight is the night show and tomorrow we're having people over to BBQ. May as well invite the neighbors over since we don't even have a fence between us anymore, lol.

And Alana is doing much better! Now we just have to hold our breath and hope that stubborn cough doesn't come back!

Well we want to come. Too bad I can wiggle my nose and just be there. That would be fun. I'll be praying the cough doesn't come back.

I wish you could have come Angela! The kids would have loved it! We were outside all day yesterday so today we were pretty whipped from the sun. The girls and I went out to see the Blue Angels' last performance but that was it for today. Now it is all over until next year....bummer. Hopefully the weather will be better next year!

Alana's cough is back, started this morning. Her nose is really congested too. I'm not sure if it is the virus coming back or allergies from being outdoors Saturday. Her peak flow readings are still really high so that's good news. We haven't used her rescue inhaler yet, just the saline rinse for her nose. We'll see what tomorrow brings....
