My Intro

My intro Smile
My name is Rachel, I come from a family of 13, 11 children, 6 of whome were homebirths that I not only was able to watch, but also got to cut a couple umbilical cords Smile I have been married to Ryan for almost 2 years already-

he also comes from a pretty large family, he has six siblings, and though his mom had all hospital births, she was a natural birther as well. He is truly the man of my dreams! We have a beautiful 15 month old daughter, Amelia Ryan, who we gave birth to in our own home with a great midwife after 28 hours of labor and 3 hours of pushing! It was a long and hard pregnancy, labor, and delivery, not to mention she was 10 days past her edd, but SO worth it.

Ryan and I met when we were just 16 years old, I lived in Michigan at the time and made a visit to California to visit my cousins and other family, and was introduced to him through one of my many cousins. I saw him three times on my visit and when I went home I KNEW I would be going back to California, for him! We had a long distance relationship for almost two years, we flew back and forth visiting each other several times during those years and always had gigantic phone bills, and wrote enough real, and e-mail letters to make a book out of! When I turned 18 I packed up my belongings and moved out to California to be with him. We were planning on going to a bible college in Southern California together, but due to an accident and financial issues in my family, that wasn't able to happen. Which at the time was horrible, but now I look back and see the Lords hand in it all along. When I was 19, I enrolled in a culinary arts program through the junior college and became a certified pastry chef. Ryan had an incredible job and was able to go to college at night taking classes in criminal justice. We planned on getting married in April of 2006, and when that couldn't work out, we changed the date to July 2006, again for uncontrollable reasons it couldn't happen. Well, August of 2006 is when we found out we were expecting for the first time Smile We both wanted to be married before we started a family, so it was a secretly good thing cause now we HAD to get married FAST! October 28th 2006 we were finally married! And 6 months later, we had our beautiful daughter. The next October we moved to Southern California for Ryans job, a 12 hour drive from everything and everyone we knew!

It was hard, especially since we were so used to be around friends and family so much. That same month I found out I was pregnant again, but 6 weeks later started bleeding and discovered it was a chemical pregnancy. I was heart broken even though it was such an early m/s, but then the following month I had symptoms again, and sure enough,

I was pregnant! We were much more cautious with things this time and didn't tell anyone we were expecting til I was 10 weeks. In March we had the big u/s and found out we were having a BOY! We were both in shock, we were so sure it was another girl. Ryans jaw just dropped when the tech showed us the goods Smile This pregnancy has been so much easier then my first, where I experianced extreme sickness, gained way to much weight, (how Im dont know, since everything I ate came back up!) and just looked awful the entire time. I am so thankful, especially since I spend most of my time chasing my daughter around the house picking up her messes and playing endless games of peek a boo. Even though I am excited to meet my little boy, I am not in a hurry to get him out, and I am really enjoying the experiance of pregnancy. I have huge fears of a hospital birth, and am a little anxious about that. I have my birth plan all written and signed but I have seen so many birth plans get tossed as if they are nothing, that I really dont know how much it will help. I had orginally planned on delivering in a birthing center, but the only one in my area was not able to open due to some paper work problems or something silly like that. I am seeing a midwife, and while she acts like she fine with natural birth, I cant help but have my doubts. But I guess I will leave it up to the Lord and just stay strong. I know my husband will be with me, and he is not be pushed around easily.
I am so happy to be sharing this journey with you all, and feel more confident in myself already, just by reading of the support you have given other mama's here. Well, thats my story thus far Smile I will try and get Ryan to take some pics of my belly tonight, since the last one I have is at 16 weeks!! Smile

So....heres a little tmi... we just dtd and I think I lost a chunk of my plug. No blood or streaking, but unless dh has chunky sperm, that all I can chalk it up too. Not that it means anything, with my dd I lost it at 37 weeks and didn't have her till 41 1/2... but still noteworthy right?

Congrats on the lodge! I'm looking forward to reading your birth story for your little boy:)

BTW... I was worried about a hospital delivery as well, but it turned out great! I had a midwife and husband who listened to me. You have a great advantage... you and your DH have been through this before.

Is DH a police officer?

Good luck!!

37 week app

So tomorrow at 4:10pm I have my 37 week appointment, Should be nice and boring. Hopefully I will find out my gbs results, they did the swab at my 35 week app but didn't have the results at my 36? Hhhm. Anyway, I will update when I get back of course. Just wanted to inform those who didn't see on my bb, my fil is in the hospital from a stroke, so we might have to travel up north this weekend. Soooo Im thinking I might let them check me tomorrow to make sure its "safe" Smile Ive declined at the last two appts, and initially didn't want to be checked at all til I was in labor, but this is kinda a pickle. I REALLY doubt too much is going on down there though,z besides maybe a soft cervix. I will kup!

Well I just got back from my appointment, everythings good, bp normal, babys growing right on, I haven't gained anything since last week. yay. still dont have my results from the swab?? Thats kinda annoying. I have an update on fil..
Well they took him to the bigger hospital this morning and did tests on him, turns out he has a hole in his heart from the stroke. And then they sent him home (?? i dont know why?) Well when he got home he started feeling numbness again so my mil rushed him back to the local hospital and I believe they are flying him right now to san francisco for surgery. Looks like we are going to fly up there. I just got back from my 37 week appointment and mw said its fine (the flight is only as hour) as long as I stay hydrated and have dh hold Amelia the majority of the time. She said she didn't think she needed to check me, so she didn't, which Im glad about. She did give me a copy of my records just in case Smile Anyway, thanks everyone for your prayers and thoughts, this has been sooo tough on Ryan. His dad is a cancer survivor so he has already almost lost him before! Please keep praying.

Hooray for a good appt. That is weird they don't have the GBS results.

I hope your FIL is doing okay. It sounds like the hole in his heart allowed a blood clot to travel through and up to his brain. The surgery to correct this (if it's the surgery I'm thinking of) is actually pretty mild and he'll only need to spend a day or two in the hospital. They can go in through the groin (like an angioplasty) and open a patch inside the heart to seal up the hole. We used to do these at the hospital I worked at a couple years ago. Folks did really well with it and again, it's not major surgery at all. I hope that's all your FIL is facing.

Cardiac nursing is my passion. Feel free to PM or email me if you have questions.

I'll pray and send wishes for a speedy recovery and safe travels for you. Smile

Thanks alot! ROFL
My dh would just DIE!! My mw said I just need to stay really hydrated etc and that the worry is the changing in pressure that can cause your water to break, so If I am drinking WHILE flying it should help regulate the pressure or something like that. Scary! Thank God its a short flight.

We bought our tickets today, dh couldn't get any time before the 6th, so were flying out Thursday morning and coming back Tuesday the 12th. I will be flying at 38 weeks!! I am actually not concerned about it in the slightest. Not only do I think I will have an at least 40 week baby, I think whatever I lost of my plug the other day is grown back cause my discharge was really chunky/watery for a couples days, but now its really thick and bright white, like post ovulation. Anyway at least this little trip will help the time go by quicker then sitting at home doing nothing! Two days after we get back my sister is getting here from Michigan, so that is exciting too. I will have the internet there so I will be able to get on and let keep everyone posted. Thanks for all the prayers, my poor poor dh is having such a rough time, and there is really nothing I can do to comfort him. Anyway, I do have my next appointment the day before we leave, so hopefully nothing happens between now and then Smile
