I'm so glad you remembered us and decided to join! Welcome to your lodge! You may not get it very long, since you are already 39 weeks, but I'm sure everyone here would love to get to know you better! Please tell us about yourself!
WELCOME! Looking forward to your story!
Sorry it took me so long to get back here to do and intro. It has been a busy few days!
I am Beth married for 4.5 years to my AWESOME husband Mike. We are both teachers. I met him when I moved to CA to take a teaching job. He came into my classroom and introduced himself to me. We were not really interested in each other at first. It took about 3 months to start "dating" and a few more months to become more serious. Our first date was out to play golf. I beat him, so he said that we would have to go out again so he could even the score. I delightfully agreed. We have been playing golf and competing with each other ever since.
We started TTC in the spring of 08. It took us about a year to finally conceive. It was a really rough year. I never thought that trying to get pregnant would be such a stressful and exciting time. I had gone to my dr. after a year of trying for an infertility consult and we decided to do a HSG, just to make sure everything was okay. Everything looked good. It must have been the trick because we ended up pregnant that cycle!
I came home from work on a Friday night and did some more work from home that night. My DH made me some popcorn and it upset my stomach so bad! I felt like crap all night. Even while sleeping, I woke up feeling crummy. The next morning I was just hanging out around the house. So I decided to test. I had a test that had been given to me by one of my classroom moms. I didn't realize it was a digi, but I decided to use it anyway. I left it sitting on the counter figuring it would be just another one of those months, when I tested and it was neg. I looked down and it said "Pregnant"! It was the biggest surprise ever! I totally didn't expect it! I was thrilled! I just couldn't believe it! I called DH (he was playing golf) and told him to call me back, it was really important. Well, it took him about 3 hours to call me back, and by that time I had decided that I wanted to tell him when he got home. When he called he wouldn't let me go until I told him what was so important. So I told him. His response was "No way, how do you know?" I thought that was pretty funny. We were both so excited.
I had terrible morning (all day) sickness from about 6 weeks through about 16 weeks. I lost about 7 lbs. in that time. I was really happy when I had one day when I didn't throw up! I felt the baby move for the first time at about 12 weeks. I KNOW that it was baby, it was such an unusual feeling. Then I didn't feel baby move again until about 16 weeks. At about 20 weeks DH could feel baby move too. He loved feeling it move. We (I) decided that we weren't gong to find out the sex of the baby. The rest of my pregnancy has been very uneventful, which I wouldn't trade for anything! I have loved being pregnant and it has been so easy! I know not everyone enjoys being pregnant, but I have enjoyed every part of it. (Maybe not the )
My due date is Jan. 15. I have been having some contractions off and on for a few days. They are definitely different than just Braxton Hicks, but they aren't regular or getting any more intense. I am really hoping for a natural birth. I think the biggest asset for me is my attitude. I am not afraid, anxious or nervous in any way. I am actually excited. Maybe it is because I am blissfully ignorant about what is going to happen, but I am welcoming the experience of child birth. My DH is very supportive and we are planning on just taking it one contraction at a time and just working through each one as they come.
I am also planning on exclusively breastfeeding for as long as I possibly can. I will have to introduce a bottle for when I go back to work and I will have to pump.
We have also decided to cloth diaper our baby. This is more my idea than DH he is not too thrilled about it still. I am though. I look at our cute little diapers and can't wait to see baby in them!
Some other things...Our names are boy: Kelly, which is DH's mother's maiden name and DH and all of his brothers share Kelly as a middle name; and Girl: Kennedy. I have loved that name for ever. DH told me that since he got to pick the boy name he would let me have dibs on the girl name. We have also talked about Isabella (Bella) for a while, so we aren't sure. If Baby is a girl, we'll have to see which one fits!
Thanks for reading my novel!
Great story, glad you came to share. I look forward to hearing about the birth. It's my first too, and I'm hoping the positive feelings are legit and not just blissful ignorance too
Megan / SO Mike / Jack - Feb 9, 2010 / LO expected late March 2013
My advice to first time moms who aren't preparing with a "method" is to expect it to be hard, but not too hard that you can't handle it, and try to accept the contractions as good things that are getting you closer to holding your baby instead of fighting them. Stay at home as long as possible. Also, learn everything you can about all medical interventions (including IVs, pitocin, fetal monitoring, artificial rupture of membranes, episiotomy, etc.) and decide beforehand how you feel about them and make sure your care provider understands and respects your preferences. You can do it!
Thanks for that advice. That is exactly what DH and I have done. We already let the Dr. know what we prefer and he seems to be responsive to that. I do feel like I am fairly knowledgeable about medical interventions and such. I also have a really good friend who is a L&D nurse and she said she will come in for our birth, even if she is not on schedule. She pretty much runs the birth center at the hosp. and she is a great advocate for her patients. I am very confident that we will get what we want. Besides that, my mom is here and she has a tendency to be kind of a pit bull when it comes to getting through to Drs.!
Happy day before your due date! Looking forward to your birth hun! Had to add that you'll LOVE cloth diapers, I've finally go around to doing full time with #3 and wish I had known how fun it was with my first!
Great intro, learned lots about you even though we're on the same birth board!
I was interested in cloth diapering, but since I'm going back to work I didn't want to deal with having to find a daycare that would use them, so sposies it will be.
Hopefully it works for you!
