Wow, I have a lodge! How exciting!! Smile

Okay, well I will just give a brief introduction now and then write more later today when the kiddos are having nap/quiet time.

DH (Daniel) and I met in the summer of 2001. We were both volunteering at a camp in the upper pennisula of Michigan for the summer. I was on Recreation Crew and he was working in the kitchen. It was his first summer in the United States (he was born and raised in Romania). In fact, the camp actually paid for his ticket to come. He then "misplaced/lost" his return ticket home. Wink We really only met each other at the camp the last two weeks I was there. We were on opposite sides of the camp, so up until that point we never really had much contact with each other. I can honestly say that for me when I first talked with him it was as much "love at first sight" as it can be. I was literally out of breath when I tried to talk with him the first few times. Our friendship developed quite quickly over those two weeks and by the time I left camp at the end of the summer I had a great picture of the two of of kissing as a reminder of the great summer I had had. We then proceeded to go our seperate ways. I was going to school in La Crosse WI and he went out to California to visit his brother who was living there. We gave each other our e-mail addresses and said we would keep in touch. Honestly, I didn't know whether or not we would or not.

Anyway, long story short... we kept in touch over e-mail and phone. We went on 3 "in person dates" that were basically long weekends spent together, and then we were married in June of 2002 just about 10 months after we had first met! We then decided to start our lives together in Michigan. He knew some people in various parts of MI, and it was somewhat close to my family who was living in Minnesota and Indiana. So, we settled down here in MI (by down here I mean the lower part of MI)and have been here ever since.

I'll post a few pics now and then write about the "baby stage" of our lives later today.

This was Easter of 2006. I'm too lazy to load new pics of DH and I into photobucket right now... maybe later this afternoon!

Here are a couple pics of us taken in Romania when we went to visit in the spring of 2005

Onto the baby stage...

We decided to start ttc in January of 2003. When August rolled around and I still wasn't pregnant, I asked my OB about it at a routine yearly exam. We did some very basic initial testing and found out that my DH has borderline low sperm count and low motility (30%). We talked with a specialist in November and he said based on those results we had a 10% chance of conceiving naturally in a 2 year time frame (gotta love specialists!!). He of course then recommended that we consider having DH do a surgery to "fix" his varicocele which was likely the cause of our "problem." Well, I guess we beat the odds, we found out we were pregnant in early December. We were due in August of 2004. The pregnancy went well. I had moderate morning sickness and was fairly tired in the first trimester, but nothing too terrible. The rest of the pregnancy went well with no complications.

Birth story #1
I was due to have my first baby (a girl) on August 12th 2004. I went to my 39 week appointment on the 4th of August and had my first internal exam and my OB told me I was about 70% effaced and 2 centimeters dialated. I began to lose my mucus plug later that day. My DH and I took a long walk that night. The next day more mucus plug, more walking and sex. The following day, August 6th, I began having contractions around 2:00 in the afternoon (the first contractions I had felt the entire pregnancy). They started out at about 7 minutes apart for the first hour, and then went to 5 minutes apart. My DH came home from work at about 4 and we went for a walk. They continued to be 5 minutes apart until about 5:30 and then they were down to 3 minutes apart. Still, they were not very long in length, only about 25-30 seconds long. Also, I could easily walk and talk through them. However, I called the hospital to see what they wanted me to do. They said to stay home and either walk or take a bath and see what happened. They wanted them to get longer in length. At 7:30 they were still 3 minutes apart and not overly long, but we decided to head to the hospital. We got to the hospital just before 8 and I was checked in. I was still only about 2 centimeters dialated and 70% effaced. They of course had me lay flat on my back and hooked me up to monitors. Luckily my hospital has nothing against drinking while in labor and they gave me a large glass of apple juice to have while I laid there. I was monitored for an hour and the contractions continued at 3 minutes apart. By this time they were getting a bit more uncomfortable (probably because I was flat on my back), but nothing I couldn't deal with. After the hour was up I was told to go walk in the halls because they were still not sure I was in active labor because my contrations were not very long in length. Well, all it took was about 2 laps around in the hall and suddenly I was in PAIN!!! Now that I was actually in an upright position it took no time at all for things to get going. I was completely unprepared and started screaming through the contractions. They checked me and now I was at 5 centimeters. They asked me how I had planned to manage the pain. I told them that at that point I wanted the epidural. Well Mr. Epidural man was busy, so they had me get into the tub and also gave me an IV of fluids. The tub made things SO MUCH BETTER, but of course I had already asked for the epidural, so when he finally did show up (about 40 minutes later) I went ahead and got it. They also broke my water after they gave me the epi. It was probably around 11:30 when I got the epi. By 1:00 am I was feeling pressure and I paged the nurses. They checked me and I was fully dialated. They had me try pushing and then immediately paged the doctor because they could tell it wouldn't be long. I pushed a few more times and the doctor said an episiotomy would be neccessary. After a couple more pushed, he extended the cut even more, a couple more pushes and my daughter was born. I pushed for only 12 minutes (so now in retrospect... ummmm why couldn't I have had a bit more time before the "neccessary" episiotomy  ). My dd was purple when she was born but she started to cry immediately, so I knew she was fine. They laid her on my belly right away and dried her off a bit. Then they took her to be weighed and measured and such (about 10-15 minutes). She weighed in at 7 pounds 10 ounces and was just shy of 20 inches. She was born 5 days before her edd. They swaddled her up and brought her to me to nurse. She latched on like a pro and fed for the next 45 minutes. Everything went well from that point on. She nursed like a champ and my milk came in just 36 hours after she was born.

Okay, I will write more later... I'm being summoned by the kiddos.

After the birth of our first dd we really weren't too worried about birth control. We figured that we were not going to give up any potential opportunities to get pregnant again and since I was exclusively breastfeeding we figured it would probably be awhile. SURPRISE! I found out I was pregnant again when my first dd was 6 months old. Unfortunately, I started spotting around 6 weeks. I had an ultrasound at 7 weeks that showed that the baby was measuring small and the heartrate was on the low side. At nine weeks I had another ultrasound and the baby's heart was no longer beating. I miscarried naturally at 11.5 weeks. After the miscarriage, I really wanted to get pregnant again right away, and it seemed that we didn't really have an infertility problem like we had innitially thought. Well, it was a long road, but after 11 cycles we found out we were pregnant again. Our next LO was due on Christmas day of 2006. This pregnancy went well. I only had very mild morning sickness in the beginning and really no tiredness at all this time. I toyed around with the idea of trying for a natural birth, but that was really all that ever became of it. I never did any research or read any books. In fact, I went in for my 38.5 week appointment and my doctor discovered that I was 4 centimeters dialated and 70% effacecd. He said that if I didn't go into labor on my own over the weekend he would be willing to induce me on Monday morning (at 39 weeks... exactly one week before Christmas). I liked this idea because I knew I had family coming to visit just before Christmas and they would only be staying for a day. I figured this way I would have my LO and be home for a couple days prior to company arriving. Looking back on it now... HOW SAD AND PATHETIC!! Oh well...

Birth Story #2
Anyway, I came in early Monday morning (the 18th of dec 2006) to be induced. When I arrived they monitored baby for an hour. Then shortly after that they started me on some pitocin (around 7:30). Luckily my hospital had no problems with my desire to labor out of bed. I was free to do whatever I pleased and only had intermittent monitoring. I walked the halls for an hour and did not feel a single contraction. At 8:40 my doctor came in and broke my water. Within two minutes of that I felt the most horrendous contration!! They started coming every 2-3 minutes or so, I really don't know for sure. I decided to get in the tub, but the combo of having my waters ruptured prematurely and the pitocin was too much for me. Yet again I opted for the epidural. At 10:30 I had the urge to push. I really didn't have to though. The baby was right there. After maybe one or two pushes the baby was crowning. This is where I got to experience the impatience of my first doctor. The baby crowned for 19 of the 20 minutes that I pushed with this pregnancy. However, this time my doctor just let me gently stretch while he massaged. Finally the head broke free. I only had a slight tear. I was VERY swollen down there, but I healed so much better then the first time with the episiotomy. After my second dd was born they laid her on my belly and wiped her gently with a towel. They let her stay on my belly for the next 3 hours before they moved her to do anything!! It was wonderful. After about 5 minutes she figured out how to latch on and then she nursed for the next 3 hours straight!!! When they finally took her to get her weight and measurements she was 8 pounds 4 ounces and 20.5 inches.

I found out I was pregnant again when my second dd was 7 months old. This time it was not as much of a surprise. We knew at the time we DTD that I was ovulating, but figured that since it did take about a year each time for both of our dd's it wouldn't happen RIGHT away. Well, it happened right away!! We were a little shocked, but excited. Again, so far it has been an uncomplicated pregnancy. I did some research early on and decided to go with a midwife this time instead of an OB. I have been very happy so far with my switch. My midwife works out of the same hospital as my previous doctor, but I am okay with this because I actually do really like the hospital I gave birth in. I consider them to be MUCH more naturally birthing friendly then the majority of hospitals I have heard about, and with the support of a midwife I really feel that I have a decent chance at acheiving a natural birth.

This time, I have finally decided to educate myself on birth. I have read Ina May's guide to childbirth as well as Dr. Sears the Birth Book. I definetely feel in my heart that natural birth is truely the best option for myself and my unborn baby. I also fully believe my body is capable of having a natural birth since my previous deliveries were so quick even WITH the epidural! I must say that I am struggling a little bit with one thing though... I actually LOVED my previous birth experiences. I felt very empowered and had an edreniline rush for quite awhile afterward. My babies had no problems nursing and I had no complications from the epidural. HOWEVER, I know that with every intervention there is always a risk. Just because I previously dodged the bullet and didn't have complications doesn't mean that it will happen that way every time. Also, after reading so many natural childbirth stories, I still feel that I have missed out on something... that there may still be more euphoria that I can feel at the moment of birth and an even tighter bonding then what I experienced previously. I still wonder though, if when the pain really sets in, if I will bail out???

SO, I have decided that I will automatically decline have an IV line put in when I enter the hospital (standard procedure). Basically they draw blood when you enter the hospital and then leave the thingy in so they can hook you up to an IV later if needed. They have to give fluids before an epidural. So, if I don't have the hook up it will be much harder for me to feel that I can just opt for that spur of the moment. I have also educated myself on several different positions to labor in. If the pain gets really bad I plan to try the next couple contractions in a different position and just keep on doing that until I find something that works. That should buy me some time!

Okay, just one more thing to mention. I have been taking EPO, 2 caspules orally twice a day and one internally each day. My question is this. I started doing this at 36 weeks, and to my surprise I discovered that I was already effaced and starting to dialate (about 2-3 centimeters). I have been rubbing the oil directly onto my cervix, but I am wondering if I shouldn't do this since I am already dialating??? I don't actually stick my finger IN, just kinda rub around the outside of the cervix with a freshly cleaned finger. However, I definetely don't want to get an infection. Do you think this is okay???

Okay, I think that's all for now! Congratulations if you have made it through my novel!!! Smile

I think it should be just fine to continue, as long as your water isn't broken, and your hands are clean. I would keep doing it myself.

Awesome stories, and I love those pictures of you with your DD's. So beautiful!

OK, I'm all caught up. Biggrin I loved reading about how you & DH met and got together, your wonderful against-the-odds conception stories, and your birth stories. All the pics are fantastic too--what a beautiful family! Those belly pics w/your daughters are so precious.

I can really relate to what you said about your previous births. I also had more interventions than I wanted/planned, but I still feel very satisfied with my first birthing experience, despite the induction, epidural, etc. My DD also nursed like a champ from minute one, and I didn't have any negative aftereffects from my medicalized birth--if I had, I probably would still be dealing with negative or unresolved feelings. But I'm looking forward to it being different and better this time.

How's nursing going? Smile

We are still hanging in there!! I have felt many times over the past couple of months that if I stopped offering her the breast that she would just wean with no problems, but at the same time, there are mornings when I don't offer and then she crys and seems to want it! We are primarily only nursing first thing in the morning when she wakes up. Usually it's about 15 minutes or so. I really still cherish that time with her so much, almost more so now then at any point in our nursing relationship. The other night she was having a horrible time falling asleep. She was extremely over tired. She has never been one to nurse to fall asleep, but I figured I would offer and maybe it would be enough to settle her down. It was just what she needed!! She nursed for about 10 minutes. I laid her down, and she was FINALLY asleep about 3-4 minutes later. At that moment, I knew that I had definetely made the right decision in continuing to nurse her, even though she has been less then interested at times. What a blessing!!

The only downside to nursing right now is that I am starting to get a bit of nipple pain now. I haven't really had much at all this whole pregnancy, but over the last week or so my nips have definetely become tender!

How goes the nausea?

Well, the nausea and diarrhea are still very much here!! I definetely don't think it is a stomach bug at this point because it comes in waves. I feel fine one moment and then just 10 minutes later I feel like I'm going to puke (although, thankfully I haven't done that yet). It feels very much like the nausea I had in the first trimester, however, I have no appetite now. The diarrhea is not severe. I'm not on the toliet all day, but when I do go (TMI) it's pretty much all liquid. I hope I don't keep this up much longer because it is very physically draining. I've lost 2 pounds in the last couple days, and I don't know where I am going to get energy to push this baby out!!!

:woohoo: And just like that I seem "all better" now. Wow, I really didn't know when this would end... maybe it was a bug afterall??? Anyway, I am thankful to have my appetite back and my energy is returning.

Here are some pics...

Here is 35 weeks for comparison on the left and then this morning at 37 weeks on the right.

And here is 37 weeks from my last pregnancy...

I think the baby seems higher up now??? Or maybe the part of my belly that grew just went up???

Here is an update from my appointment yesterday...

Well, overall it went well. My BP was normal (didn't ask what it was though). My strep test was negative which I am super happy about. Baby's HR was 125-135 which is right where it usually is. I was only measuring at 32, but since we had the ultrasound at 33 weeks (because I was measuring small then) and it showed the baby was growing perfectly, she said we wouldn't worry about that.

My midwife usually doesn't do internal checks until 38 weeks, but since I have been checking myself anyway, I figured I would ask her what I was exactly... I was guessing around 3 centimeters and 30-50% effaced. WELL... I'm already at a 4 and she said that if she stretched me at all that I would easily be a 5!! She didn't stretch me though, she just lightly checked... there is no point in aggrivating things down there afterall since I'm still not even to 38 weeks yet. I'm only about 20-30% effaced though. And now for the scary news. She said since I am already 5 centimeters dialated without even having felt a single contraction yet this entire pregnancy (so I'm half way there already)... she thinks my labor will probably only be about 1 hour!!!:eek::eek: So, I guess I can forget dropping the kids off anywhere. She basically told me that when I have any sort of contractions I need to head immediately to the hospital. Way to freak a pregnant woman out. I guess this is what I get for asking to be checked!! Anyway, it could be anyday, or I could still easily walk around at 5 centimeters dialated for another couple weeks.

Oh, and as far as the nausea and diarrhea. Well, I had a day off and then it returned again, but seems to be gone yet again as of last night. My midwife thinks that it is/was most likely a stomach bug and said to make sure that I am doing everything I can to stay hydrated. Thankfully, I think it is truely gone for good at this point!!!

I'm really going to have to stalk how your labor goes, I have a worry I may be in that boat since I was 4cm when I went in for an induction without feeling any contractions. I'm glad everything looked great & hopefully the diarrhea and nausea are gone for good.

Well, I've been nesting like crazy tonight now that I actually have my energy back!! I finally started packing my hospital bag and the nursery is now finished. There wasn't a whole lot to do since my my littlest dd was in the nursery until just a few weeks ago when we moved her to the "big girl room." However, we took the crib out of the nursery (my dd is still using it), took the swing out of storage to put in the nursery, and my Dh found a fantastic deal on a rug which we just put in.

Here are the pics starting with as you enter the room and work your way around...

The baby will be spending the first few months co-sleeping in bed with us and sleeping in the cradle next to our bed. Here are pics of the cradle (and also the bed rail I have in place to LO won't fall out!).

Well, I woke up last night at around 2:30 am to a contraction. Not overly strong, but enough to wake me up. I had about 5-6 other contractions in the next 40 minutes or so, but they certainly weren't regular and then they disappeared all together. These are the first contractions I've felt the whole pregnancy, so maybe it's really getting close now... but then again, you just never know!!

I had another appointment today. It seems like I just had one yesterday!! My midwife wanted to make sure I got in early this week since I had been sick the previous week and was quite dehydrated. Anyway, I saw a different midwife this time (mine is out of the office this week) and she was every bit as wonderful as the one I usually see. Smile

Everything looks great. All (with baby and me) was in the normal range... although she didn't measure me, I probably would have been small, but we've already established that that is no big deal.

I haven't felt any more contractions since Saturday night and my cervix is the same as it was last week. So, it could be anyday still, or a few more weeks. I actually think at this point that I probably will be at least one more week. We shall see...

Just an update here.

I "took advantage" of my husband on Tuesday night and then had a few contractions again yesterday morning. Right from the start I was fairly certain it wasn't going to lead to anything. The contractions were very irregular and certainly not overly strong, but it was still exciting to have them!! I love the excitement and anticipation of early labor and when I had those contractions I got to sort of relive those feelings even though I was was still fairly certain it wasn't "time." Smile

I decided that since using my hubby worked so well the previous night that I would "take advantage" again last night. Afterward I laid in bed for about an hour before getting up to use the potty. Well, I wiped and... could it be?!?! I think I'm starting to lose my mucus plug!! I have been having TONS of globby discharge for weeks now, but this is definetely different. It was more in amount and more gelatenous (okay, so I clearly can't spell). I have been continuing to wipe more of this stuff up today as well. The only thing that makes me question a little is that I really expected to see some blood streaked in it. Definetely no blood, but it is definetely a different color then the mucus I have been passing for the last few weeks. It is more of a dark yellowy color. Does this sound like it could be it to you all???

Just something funny... well not so funny I thought I'd share. I went to a meetup yesterday (basically a playgroup where the moms talk and the kiddos play) and everyone there was admiring my belly. One of the moms asked me if they had started talking to me about induction yet??? The question completely took me by surprise!!! Ummmmmmm, I'm not even 39 weeks yet, let alone 40... or 41... or wait 42... I just told her that the "they" hadn't said a word about it and as far as I can tell, everyone is fine to let the baby bake until it decides to come out!

Honestly with how I've been feeling lately I'm beginning to think this baby might not come out until about 42 weeks!! Sigh... oh well, if that's what baby wants, that's what baby gets!

I guess so many people forget that the 4 weeks span around the EDD is all normal. So 42 weeks is normal. Alas...those of us who recognize this have to deal with pit-trigger happy people on a daily basis. You're doing great though!! And no matter what, your baby will be here sooner rather than later, since it's all just a matter of time anyway.

Ahh, the induction questions!

Isn't it funny (and annoying) how people see the 40wk mark as some kind of deadline rather than the middle of the "normal range" of gestation, like Jordan said?

How's that plug situation? I'm really scared about losing mine because I don't want to go into labor until closer to 40wks...but maybe it would kick my butt in gear and make me actually prepare... Wink

Well, as far as the plug situation is concerned, it was really just for about a day and a half that I seemed to be losing it, and now my discharge has returned to its normal state. It is probably regenerating itself as we speak! Smile Also, I had some contractions on Wednesday morning, but I haven't felt any since then, so as far as I can tell nothing is really happening, and I think I could easily still be pregnant for another week or two.

I had my 39 week appointment today... are you ready for this???

I'm 6 cm and 100% effaced. The baby's head is at +1 station!! All this and I've felt only a handful of contractions this whole pregnancy and none since Wednesday!

SO... this isn't my ideal, but we (myself and midwife) agreed that under the circumstances (I DO NOT want to have a baby in the car... or out at the grocery store for that matter) that I will come in tonight and they will brake my water. We'll just let things go from there. She is guessing that it will be an hour max (although you never really know for sure) and baby will be here. So, it looks like tonight is the night.

I am a bit scared over this. I really wanted to avoid having my water broken for me, but I am more terrified of not making it to the hospital. I know the hour or so that I am in labor is going to be VERY intense, but then again... I also know that it will be over quick!

Please send me some ELV!!! I will be holding my precious baby soon!
