Yay! I'm glad you started this because I have lost plug today. Lots and lots of it.

I needed to tell someone! Wink

I wrote up my story a couple weeks ago. I need to find some pictures to post too.

Tim and I met while seniors in high school. We have no romantic introduction story as we met at an old man’s house that used to buy everyone beer! Smile But it was pretty much love at first sight. I remember walking down the hall in high school after we met and I knew I would see him and I would get all butterflyish in my tummy. It was an amazing feeling. We “got together on St. Patty’s day 1998! Green Beer was consumed! We ended up going to prom together and had a great time! We stayed together all through summer and my parents were transferred out of state and we were planning on attending the same college but not quite living together as we were 18! But as it happened we needed to live together for me to not have to move... so living it sin it was. But it was amazing. We worked together and went to school together yet still loved every minute of time together. We graduated from college the same day but at different times of the day in December of 2002.

Tim proposed the week after Valentine’s day three months later. There is a traditional “spot” on our college campus called century tree and its this beautiful old tree with a bench under it! We walked around campus after that and called everyone. We knew we would be transferred out of state in July for his job so we made sure to plan a quick wedding. So we were married 4 months later at a little outdoor chapel in the woods.

We moved to Phoenix after that and lived there for 3 years. We moved back to Texas in September of 2006 and I had a friend that was pregnant and after her baby was born I knew I would be ready to start trying soon! It took us a year to conceive Tyler but he was well worth the wait.

Everything went well in his pregnancy until 28 weeks when I was ( what I believe misdiagnosed with gestational diabetes, long story if you want me to tell it I will). At that time we had two people at my office quit as well so they piled all the extra work on me. So on top of that and only knowing people that had major pregnancy complications in my life I started contracting. I am 99% sure this was self inflicted as I didn’t know at the time how a normal pregnancy was to go. It was partially stress to from work. So at 28w6d I was put on “modified” bedrest. I was told to just relax at home. So mainly no work, no sex and no working out. I was still allowed to cook, go out to eat etc!

After all this hoopla of bedrest I hit 39 weeks and was getting regular ultrasonds because of the “GD”( still don’t think I had it). They concluded that Tyler was getting big and was probably 8.5 pounds by then so they needed to induce me. They were planning on giving me cytotec and as much as I knew about it I did not want to have it. I told my doc the concerns and she pretty much brushed me off so my husband ( who isn’t the outspoken one) said “she doesn’t want that, give her the cervadil”. So we checked in the night before and the inserted the cervadil.

And.... I will go to the other computer to get my birth story.

Its actually realllllly odd to read this as I wrote it about 2 weeks PP and its CRAAAZY how my views on everything have changed completely!!

Tyler nursed awesome btw... and still is at almost 3. So thankfully we didn't have BFing problems after the millions of meds and c-section

We checked in Wednesday night to the hospital. We got there and I had a nurse I had before and did not like her one bit! I was scared about dying in childbirth for no apparent reason and this lady was talking to me about dying… hello… Nurses should not do that!

Anyways. I got there and I was at about 1.5cm and 60% effaced. I was having a couple contractions here and there but nothing like how regular they had been in the past.. The nurse painfully put in the cervadil. My doctor originally wanted to use cytotec but I did not feel comfortable with it so we did not. They left the strip in from about 10pm until 8 am when my doctor arrived. Before my doctor arrived there was some loud banging .. so loud that we could not talk over it. Apparently they were doing construction. I was in tears because it was so loud and I could not even think. I knew there was no way that I could relax and labor with that going on.. Thankfully it only lasted about 45 minutes. I got a new nurse at 7 am and loved her… She checked me and I was well to 3cm and 100% at that point! On to the pitocin. I was contracting a little more but not enough so they started the pitocin. It started to work really quickly and I started to have serious back pain. It was awful. I stood up and walked around by my bed for a good two to three hours and they were right on top of each other. I had NO pain in my tummy or anywhere but my back. Apparently my little guy was facing funny. I called the nurse in and asked for the Epi. I think I got it around noon. They checked me and I was at 7cm. The contractions were painful but I was handling them. My main fear was the actual BABY COMING OUT OF MY SMALL HOLE.. anyways. I labored in the dark with my mom, tim’s mom, and my dad there. I don’t think my dad liked just hanging out in the room so he kept going out and telling me about all of the babies and coming back with a little A&M hat for Tyler once he arrived because there was a kid with a longhorn one in the nursery.. hah. Anyways… even with my epi I was still really uncomfortable. I felt like I had a tampon stuck in me sideways every time I had a contractions and my back was still hurting. They seemed to think I should be out of pain but I was not. Tim and I knew this would probably happen with my history so I just stopped hitting the button because it wasn’t doing crap and I wanted to be able to move around more for the pushing.

I hit 10cm at about 4:30 and it was time to push. This was the part I was scared about all along. We started to push and my contractions were right on top of each other so I didn’t get much rest. Tyler was responding great to everything and had no decals. My heartrate on the other hand was on the rise and would hit about 180 during pushes so they put an oxygen mask on me. I t was a pain in the *** because I would try to take a deep breath before pushes and it would get stuck and suffocate with me but I just kept laughing and keeping the mood happy. I was cracking my nurse up every time because I was saying stuff I always say with no regard… my dad was getting bored so we thought maybe there was a safe place for him to stand but as soon as he walked in he caught a quick reflection he didn’t want to see so he left. My sister got there by then and came in as well. I pushed for over two hours and he just would not get from under my pelvic bone because his head was turned a little sideways. My doctor said I was pushing great and she said there was really no more I could do because of his position so it was time for the C-section. I had always said I would not mind a c-section but when the time came I started crying. I was scared and worn out from all the pushing. He had descended but just not enough. Things moved quickly then. They came in and shaved me and had me drink some nasty drink and everyone was laughing because they told me to just take it like a shot…. And I told them I used to be a pro at that! The anesthesiologist came in and gave me a “surgery” dose in my epi and we started on our way back. He asked me if I could still feel stuff and I told him I could and explained to him that my body was odd like that so he gave me more meds. They took me to the OR which was not far and it was time. The doc made the first cut and I could not feel anything but after about 5 minutes I could. I could feel EVERYTHING. I was screaming and cussing etc…and you all know me I was asking every 30 seconds. Is everything ok? Is something wrong? I heard a pop and it freaked me out. I was totally aware of everything that was going on and the anesthesiologist just kept giving me more meds because he was shocked that I was still awake and feeling everything. They got him out and put him over on the warmer for a second and I asked Tim if he was ok and he said he was perfect. His head was all misshapen from the pushing against my bones when I was pushing… I got to see him and his lips were all swollen and he was so cute… They laid him on my chest and I gave him a kiss and they took him out and Tim left. The anesthesiologist totally supported me while Tim was gone because I could feel them stitching me up and I was not very happy. He kept telling me how great I was doing and was rubbing my hair etc. I was lucky to have him while Tim was out. They took me back to recovery and I was still in some serious pain. They kept giving me meds but nothing was working. My HR was still in the 130’s so I hung out in there for a while for them to get my pain down. I was worrying the whole time that I needed to get him to my breast fast because of the stuff I have read/heard…. Tim brought me the camera and showed me pictures because they didn’t want to bring him in yet because of my pain level. I got to see him about two hours afterwards and I put him right on me and he pretty much dove into my breast and latched on with no problem. I finally went up to post partum.

WOW! I can't believe you could feel *SO* much with all the epi meds and everything!! That is almost unbelievable. I have a very sliver, tiny, speck of an understanding... when I had my wisdom teeth pulled, they started doing it before I was fully asleep and the meds had kicked in. So I remember the pressure and beginning pain and wanting to scream but couldn't. Then I woke up and it was all over. Yeah, OK, nothing like what you experienced! I take it back. Wink

Tyler was a beautiful baby though! Great coloring and all! I sure hope this baby turns the right way for you. Looking forward to going through the last weeks with you. Smile

Yeah my body is wack. They gave me everything they legally could for my wisdom teeth and a colonoscopy and I was still awake. They said for even procedures like that I will need to go under general.

Succccks. So honestly I tell people too that ask "why on earth would you do this naturally" .... well the good meds don't work on me anyways!! Smile

I hope you get the birth you want this time! How big did Tyler end up being?
I am surprised the anesthesiologist didn't allow you to go completely asleep (intubated, etc), especially when they were stitching you up. Once baby was out, I would've insisted he put me out! Sorry you had such a painful experience!

He was 7 lbs 8 oz and 20 inches.

GIANT RIGHT?!?!

SO my midwives are telling me this one seems big too and pissing me right off. I even gave into an U/S measurement ( not very midwifey IMO...but hey) and they are saying he's measuring right about where they said Tyler was. On track to be 9 pounds or so...

Yeah, not so much. I think he will be closer to 8. Perhaps just a tad bigger than Tyler.

If for some reason something requires me to transfer and I need a section I will be asking for a spinal this time because the epi didn't work. I will also be asking for them to have the heavy duty drugs ready to go because I will be in pain and normal things just don't work on me as well.

Wow, can't believe your midwives are worried about the weight this time and had a u/s as well. I can kind of understand but then there are so many stories of those measurements being way off.

Where will you be delivering? Sorry if I missed that above.

So I know nothing of BP issues. My reading at the office was 130ish/90ish.

On both arms. But I had just got done eating/drinking ( inc. caffiene) and they keep getting me all riled up there.

Anyhow, I came home and drank a bottle of water and sat a moment and it was 107/67.

There were no protiens in my urine and no swelling?

What do you think would signal an issue. They didn't even say they needed to see me before my normal appt next week. Just to try to rest some and they gave me things to look for ...headaches etc ( which I have had none of)

I've never dealt with pre-e but what I know is to watch for headaches, blurred vision and swelling of joint. Beyond that I don't know. It doesn't sound like you have though. It was probably just the slight workout you had getting there and having just eaten.

sorry, just read your last couple...hadn't checked in in a while...but... my experience with my birth center MWs was much less managed than an OB office, but with birth centers (at least in PA), they have to follow certain rules, etc. in order to stay a certified birth center. So I think birth center/hospital based MWs definitely manage things a lot differently than MWs who don't have those constraints, IYKWIM... It does suck, though, but I felt like with mine, they were almost covering their butts...definitely not as much as yours seem to be, though.

Yeah I just feel like its even MORE managed that my freaking OB care was.

I have a friend who is a homebirth mw we almost used and she has been pretty surprised at how they have been too.

I really don't think I have any BP issues. I think they stress me out there....

I took it later this afternoon at home and it was 99/64.

So... I just need to try to relax some before my next appt. I think my worry my BP may be up....will make it go up!

If you had caffeine before you went, I wouldn't worry unless you get high readings at home. Take it easy, relax, watch for the other symptoms, but it sounds like you're fine.
Sorry they are giving you a hard time. You really don't need added stress at the very end of your pregnancy!

I wouldn't freak out over one high reading. 130/90 really isn't even that high. If you get consistently high numbers then I would worry. I think you are most likely ok. Just monitor it. If you have any other symptoms though I would call right away. Like migraine headache, abdominal pain, visual disturbances etc.

I met with the doula today and LOVED her.

She actually helped me get some of my confidence back that they have been talking away. Apparently this clincal director did the same to her.... made a big deal about her 4 pound weight gain between appts..... So its good to know she has been there.

She also told me " you know I see some women that I wonder if they will be able to do it without meds etc.... just by talkign with them" and shs said she has NO DOUBT in her mind with my education and determination that this will be great.

She made me feel soooo much better.

She is even comign with me to my appt next week to just be there and also help them not be negative to me. She will talk with me beforehand and maybe do some hand massage etc so that my BP will likely be ok.

Good day!

Soooo..... on cervical self checks. Its pretty high up there so I had to reach but I can easily fit two fingers in. I couldn't even try for 3 just because of the angle.

What is two fingers about? Middle/pointer. I didn't even have to like force them in. Two slipped in easy.

Awesome doula! Glad she helped you find your confidence. It was there all along, it's just nice to have someone recognize it, right?

I'm not sure about how many fingers=how many cm. It really varies by woman anyway since fingers are all different.

When's your next appt?

Hmm, for the cervix it depends on the size of your fingers. I'd say probably 2cm?

My pg book has a diagram and for my fingers, pointer and middle width is 3cm. Hope that helps!

Ha. No I swear I contracted more at 30 weeks than now!!

Also, I have a hemmoroid. Never had one before and it's awful. I'm pretty miserable at the moment. Got some earth mama bottom balm and some tucks pads but no real help?!

Yikes- sorry about the hemorrhoid:( I don't really know of anything that helps them other than the witch hazel pads and maybe a cold compress.
Yay for reaching 37 weeks! Way to bake that baby Smile

Get some little sandwich ziplok baggies and crush some ice in a blender and make little ice packs. Ice your butt at least 3 times a day (I know it's difficult to find the time, but do it anyways.) Spend as much time as possible lying on your side or even all fours propped up on pillows or whatever. Keep the EM bottom balm in the fridge.

Are you constipated at all?

So sorry about the hemorrhoid. That's horrible. No real help. Although, when I was really suffering from a fissure after DD was born, the doc told me to only use what I would use on my DD's bottom - wipes not TP. Don't know if that would help you or not.

So glad you have an awesome doula that is supporting you through the MW experience. I hope your next appt goes better. When is it?

Saw this thread again and thought of you. Shows a great visual of how big each cm is. Smile Not graphic but gives an idea. I'd say you're 2-3cm though.

BP is still a little high! But no protiens so she said to try to take it easy!

Baby is good! FH is 37.

Still about 60%, -2, soft, and 3cm!!! ( this is so encouraging to me because I was only 1cm when induced with Tyler at 39w!!)

And she said he is prob about 7lbs right now so seems about on track with Tylers growth. And she also said that mom's indication of size is usually the best tool and I told her I feel smaller this time.

She was great. She said she thinks a mom is going to gain what she is going to gain and esp a second time mom that knows what her body does. I loved her. Too bad she mainly works at their south center.

Anyhow, I feel a lot better. She said if my BP does climb next week they will do a S&S and can even do an AROM before sending me to hospital etc.

That is such awesome progress Amy!! Biggrin I saw on our April board all that you've been doing to keep things progressing - EPO, drinking RRL. It's great they'll do a sweep and even AROM before the hospital! Sounds like you're in good hands!

It's a race between us, ya know? Wink With your progress, I'm guessing you'll be holding your baby before I am holding mine. Smile But how fun to watch the progress.

Too bad that MW isn't around more. Sounds encouraging about the weight and size of baby. Makes me feel better to hear professionals say things like that too. I always think that way, but it's nice to hear it, ya know?

Oh question! Since you're still nursing too!!!

Do you contract regularly when you're nursing your DS? Every time Grace nurses I have at least one or two contractions. Not painful... but definitely strong.

Well I only let him nurse every few days now. It was the WORST feeling in the world. Gives me the heebies.

I did let him nurse yesterday though and I am going to let him pick it up to a couple times a day if I can handle it.

And yes, I contract A LOT. It doesn't hurt but like you said its strong.

I am not in any hurry to evict this little man but I am going to do what I can to encourage just in case that BP does become an issue but since I have no proteins I am staying optimistic. I know my body isn't going to go if it isn't ready just from sex etc.

Haha. Its a race! Wink She said I could possibly go fast this time because I did dilate to 10 with Tyler but his positioning was why I couldn't get him out. And that I'm already a 3 to make sure to call right when it starts to hurt. Because I told her so far I sometimes contract every 3 min for 1 min at a time but they don't hurt per se.

You sound like you are making good progress! I went into labor 3 days after my doctor announced I was 3cm and 80ish% effaced. Of course I had her do a membrane sweep at 38 weeks 5 days. Smile You are getting so close! I would be surprised if you make it another 2 weeks.
