My name is Janae (32) and Dh is Matt (35). We met during second semester my first year at college. We started dating Valentines and were engaged Easter Sunday. Quick I know, but when you know, you know. We were married August 15, 1997(I was 19, he was 22)….it has been a GREAT 13.5 years!

In April of 1998 we were thrilled to find out that we were expecting baby #1 two days before Christmas (despite being on the pill). In September I started gaining a LOT of weight, to which the DR told me to stop eating so much pizza. WHAT??? We were poor students and couldn’t afford pizza. Then I commented that my BP was higher than normal, but was told that it was high when I first came in. At the beginning of November I was having visual disturbances which the DR again brushed off. One day at my regular appt the DR finally listened to my concerns and realized there was something wrong….I had developed pre-e. An amnio was preformed to determine if baby’s lungs were mature which they were not. So I was put in the hospital on bedrest. The DR had come in and told me that he would be back to give me the steroid shot for baby’s lungs but he never returned. I was sent home for Thanksgiving under strict orders for bedrest. I remained on strict bedrest until Dec.3rd. I went to my regular appt and was told that I was severe pre-eclamptic and that I had to go up to the hospital immediately to be induced. I had a hard time getting a hold of DH but was finally able to get the message to him that we would be having a baby. I was put on Pit, Mag Sulfate and had to labor on my left side. It was miserable. I had horrible back labor that I could do nothing to help. After being in labor for more than 10 hours I had had enough and asked for some Nubain to help me sleep. It worked great….I was still able to feel the contractions but was able to get some rest. I pushed for about 1 ½ hours and after 17 hours and an episiotomy (no I did not give consent and it was not needed) my son, Chase, was born weighing 7# 5 oz on Dec 4, 1998. It took months for me to heal from the episiotmy.

When Chase turned 18 months we were ready to try for another baby. I got pregnant on the first try and baby was due March 16th, 2001. I wanted a different birth so I sought out a practice of MW. I had a relatively easy, boring pregnancy until 33 weeks when I went into pre-term labor. I was given several shots of terb to stop the contractions and was sent home on bedrest and meds. At 36 weeks I got of bedrest and began developing pre-e again. The MW that would end up delivering me stripped my membranes 3 days in a row. The third day (38 weeks) I went into labor 4 hours later (after DTD, walking, and nipple stim). What a difference this labor was. I was able to eat, walk around, sit on the birthing ball, and sit in the Jacuzzi tub. I started to get back labor so the MW suggested that I get on my hands and knees and arch my back. After only 5 minutes of doing this I felt baby turn and felt my first contractions in my stomach. I did ask for some Nubain again this time around. After 8 hours of labor and 50 minutes of pushing Trey was born March 1, 2001 weighing 8# 1oz.

Again, when Trey turned 18 months we decided to try for baby #3 and got pregnant first try again. We had moved back to the same place where I had baby #1 and I was NOT going back to the DR I had with him. I was pleased to find out that this DR did have a MW so I saw her throughout the pregnancy. This was a pretty uneventful pregnancy other than developing Symphysis Pubis Dysfunction. There were times were I couldn’t walk so Dh had to carry me to bed. We found I was dilated to a 3 at 33 weeks but the BH I was having weren’t anything to be concerned about so no bedrest. At 37 weeks I started having more contractions so I went to the hospital. I was told to walk for an hour and I went from a 3 to a 3 ½ so they gave me the option to walk some more (it was midnight), go home and come back later, or they could break my waters. I opted for this and I immediately dilated to a 4 ½. After laboring most of the night they decided to give me a small dose of pit. Well I stalled out so we turned that off. I spent about 2 hours on the ball all the while the MW kept asking me if I felt like pushing. I felt good and said NO (she later told me that she could tell that I was ready to but the ball was keeping his head up). As soon as I went to get off the ball his head was right there and I was shaking so bad that I couldn’t climb up onto the bed. With some help I was able to get up onto the bed, but got stuck on my hands and knees so that is how I delivered. After only about 10 minutes of pushing and 9 hours of labor Layton (boy #3) was born May 19th, 2003 weighing 7# 3oz. Although I had pit this time around (very low dose) I went without any pain meds and felt so much better afterwards.

I will post the other two birth stories soon.

DH wanted to stick to our 2 year spacing with babies after Layton, but I was NOT ready for another baby...He was such a hard toddler. So in July of 2006 (Layton was 3 at this time) I decided I was ready for a baby. I started charting because I wanted to try the Shettles method for a girl. I knew I wanted June baby so we decided to start trying in Setpember. I had been Oing around day 12 in the previous months so we DTD accordingly. Well, day 13 came and still no O. Then day 14 and 15. I was worried that I was going to miss out on a baby for that month (I really wanted a baby at this point) so I got DH to DTD the and then lo and behold and I Oed that day. Smile My 4th pregnancy was undoubted my easiest…I felt great, didn’t gain as much, and had no problems except for testing GBS +. I had a new MW because we had moved out of state and she was wonderful. When I was 38 weeks I took some castor oil and then went to the park for a picnic with the family. I had fun chasing my 4 yr old around (I am sure that I looked pretty awkward, but it was fun). I then took the boys to the library (this was their second day of summer break) and then went home to take a nap. I woke up at one time to Trey laughing at me. He told me that I was moaning in my sleep. I fell back asleep. I woke up at 4:30 pm and noticed I was having some noticeable contractions. I had had similar contractions earlier that morning for about 3 hours but they stopped completely around 8am. I watched some Oprah and munched on peanut M&Ms. A little after 5 the contractions were noticeably getting stronger and in a good pattern so I got on the computer to time them. After about 15 minutes sitting timing them I grew uncomfortable so I asked Chase (DS#1) to time them for me as I stood and swayed my hips. A few minutes later and I felt “wet” so I went to the bathroom. There was blood and this scared me. I had heard that bloody show was more like a pink tinged mucous. I had DS get Dh and we started to get ready to go to the hospital. A friend came over to get the boys and then DH and I left. We got to the hospital about 7pm. I was checked and was told that I was 5cm, bulging bag of waters, and very stretchy. The nurse said that she could have probably stretched me to a 10 but wouldn’t because I needed the antibiotics. I told her of my desires for a natural birth and she was great to give me what I wanted. I had the first dose of meds and was allowed to walk around. I remember squatting between contractions and telling DH that baby was right there. After waiting maybe an hour they started the second dose of meds. I was sitting in the bed and my back was KILLING me…to the point that I felt like I was going to lose control. So I turned over to my hands and knees—instant relief. A little while later the nurse asked if I was ready to turn over. This primal sounding “NO” came out of me and Dh told the nurse that I had delivered like this last time. She was fine with that. My MW was at the school doing physicals so as I was waiting for her to get there I was fighting the urge to push but pushing a little. I was kneeling on the bed resting the raised head so I couldn’t see anything, but as soon as I heard my MW come in the room I pushed once and felt/heard a pop (my waters went everywhere) and then pushed again and out came baby Zander at 11:18pm June 12th. It was such an empowering delivery.

Not even 6 weeks after Zander was born I had this very strong feeling that there was another baby impatiently waiting on us. I tried to ignore it but the feeling wouldn’t go away. So after much talk we decided to try after Zander turned 6 months. I wanted to try the Shettles method for a girl but my cycle was so out of whack due to bfing that it was hard to tell when or IF I was Oing. Again, I got preg on the first try. It was a pretty uneventful pregnancy other than moving to another state during my 35 week. My only option was to see a DR. He was terrible! After contracting for 2 weeks I asked my Dr to strip my membranes at my 39 week appt. I was crampy that day but nothing came of it. The next day I woke up with ctx 5 minutes apart for 4 hours. Then they just stopped. That night around 10:30 Dh and I went for a walk after I took some castor oil. I started having irregular, but painful ctx an hour later. We went to bed and I woke up at 1am to some bloody show. I went back to sleep and woke up at 2am to a big ctx so I woke up Dh and got ready to head to the hospital. We arrived around 3am and found that I was 6cm, 80%, and -1 station. Luckily my nurse was really good to just leave me alone, even though she did say that she was supposed to ask every 1/2 hour if I wanted pain meds. The DR came in at 6am to break my water....left to change and when he came back had me lay in bed with my feet in the stirrups. My back hurt so bad that I didn't feel like I could do it anymore. After 3 pushes McKay was born October 31, 2008 (Halloween) at 6:19am weighing 8#8oz.

As for this pregnancy...I really wanted to try for a September baby and found out January 2010 that we were expecting and due Sept. 25. However, I miscarried at 10 weeks. I saw a new DR that was so compassionate about my loss and very understanding of the fact that I didn't not want a d/c. So we decided on the pills to induce the m/c. My cycle came back 14 days after the m/c, but I wasn't quite ready to try again. We decided to try in May using the Shettles method for a girl. The timing was right (3-4 days from o) and we even used my friend's douche "recipe". I found out in June I was pg....I didn't think I would be because I was sure we missed the window. I dealt with migraines for the first 5 months and m/s for 4 months. I was sure that with the timing and these different sypmtoms that I had that it was for sure a girl. Well we found out at the u/s that we are expecting boy #6. While I was happy to be welcoming another boy into our famiy, I was sad that I will probably never have a girl. This pg has been pretty good although I do have to admit that I am ready to have little Declan here.

I just got back from my 36.5 week appt. BP was 137/87 which is high for me, but DR didn't say anything about it. Baby sounded good 130 bpm and measured right on. I lost 3 lbs . . .putting my total so far at 35 lbs (which is the least amount I have gained). I am 1 cm, 60%, and -3 station. I did find out that I am GBS+ despite using Hibiclens. I am disappointed to say the least. I still plan to labor as long as I can at home, but won't be telling my DR that.

I am so ready for baby to be here, but not ready at the same time. I am ready to be done being pg, but I still have not done ANYTHING to prepare for baby. I hope to go through clothes today and get them washed and put away. And possibly start on a hospital bag. I am just so exhausted that come 2pm I am ready to lay down for a good nap so I feel like I don't get anything accomplished!

Sounds like a good appointment! I hope you get to your birth prep today. It seems like such a big hurdle at first, but once I started washing tiny little onesies it got really fun! You should go buy a couple new newborn tidbits to make it all feel special. I love DS's hand-me-downs, but buying the new baby his own swaddle blanket really made me happy.

Janae, sorry to hear about your GBS status. I'm supposed to have my GBS test this afternoon and have my hibiclens but now not sure if I should even bother. Did you just wash with it before your appointment.

A six-pack of boys - I LOVE IT!

I washed with it twice a day for 4 or 5 days leading up to the day of the swab, plus twice that day. Not worth the effort if you ask me. I hope you get better results.

I finally got the clothes and blankets washed and put away. Zander(3) and McKay(2) helped put them in the washer and they loved being able to help get things ready for baby. I plan to start packing my bag a bit today and some cleaning. BH have definitely picked up in amount and intensity. I am so ready to be done being pregnant. I have zero motivation and feel like I have shut down emotionally. It's like I have PPD, but haven't even had the baby yet. Sad

I did buy a fun little sleeper and some cute swaddle blankets. My mom has made crocheted him some super cute beanies for him to wear. So excited to see him in those!!

I think some women do the oposite of nesting in the days before birth. Instead of getting a burst of energy and wanting to get things done my body has started reserving energy. I feel kinda useless, but I don't WANNA do dishes. Maybe you can get the older kids and DH to do your nesting for you. Just try to relax and rest now. Hope you have a great day today!

Glad you're getting some stuff ready and your boys are being helpful! My 3yo DS loves doing laundry, too. Lol I hope you find some more motivation soon and baby doesn't keep you waiting too long.

XP from Feb. 2011

Stats:
8 lbs 6 oz
20 inches
Born 1:23 am 2/1/2011

At my 37.5 week appt on Monday (1/31) I asked the DR if he would strip my membranes. He said that there isn't any evidence that it does anything, but that that there isn't any evidence that it doesn't either. I was dilated 2cm so he went ahead and stripped my membranes...that hurt more than it did with my other pregnancies. Afterwards I went and got the car washed and then vacuumed the car out. Took the boys home for a nap and then went to get my hair done. While I was sitting in the chair I had a couple contractions, but didn't think anything of them. I had to pick up a prescription at Walmart and while walking around had a few more contractions. Went home and made dinner. I started having contractions every 2-3 miuntes while sitting down to dinner, but they slowed down a bit when I stood up. Contractions were still coming at 10:30pm but were inconsistent 2 minutes, then 5 minutes, then 3 minutes, then 8 minutes. I decided to give my mom the call to let her know what was going on. Although the contractions weren't real regular I was having bloody show so I thought that it might be the real thing and told her to come. I had Dh go to bed because there was nothing he coculd do and it was better that he be rested. My mom called at 11:47pm and told me she was on her way (it takes a little over 2 hours to get here). I thought she would be able to make it because nothing was terribly consistent. After about 20 minutes the contractions started to get a little more painful although they were still a bit irregular. A little after 12:30am I decided I should lay down to hopefully slow things down as the contractions were becoming much more painful....still irregular. Laying down did the opposite that I was hoping. I felt baby move and then the contractions started to really hurt, were 1 minute apart, and my tailbone was killing me! I went into the bedroom and told Dh it was time to go NOW! He raced around getting everything in the car while I tried to deal with the contractions. DH called the hospital as we left the house to let them know we were on our way. I called my mom to find out where they were (still an hour away) and let her know we were heading to the hospital. Contractions started coming much stronger and the pressure on my tailbone got more intense. After 8 minutes in the car I told Dh that there was no way my mom was going to make it...and that I was afraid that WE wouldn't make it. Dh had the hazard lights on and was speeding and running the lights. We were about a mile away from the hospital when I noticed that there was a train crossing the road we were on. I was panicing by now because I was feeling the urge to push, and knew that there was no way to get around the train. We had to wait a few minutes for the train...it felt like FOREVER and as soon as it passed Dh gunned it. We pulled into the emergency entrance and my water broke. I told DH to call the hospital again (1:21am) and tell them that we were there and that the baby was there. Despite my efforts NOT to push his head came out as we pulled up to the ER entrance. The nurses came out with a gurney and asked me to get on it. There was no way that I could get on it...his head was part out. So the DR had to lift me onto it. They ran inside and ripped my pants off just inside the door and I birthed the rest of Declan at 1:23am. They took Declan to clean him up and suction him and I delivered the placenta. While the nurses weret taking Declan down to L&D, the DR checked for any tears (a small tear that required no stitches), Dh went outside to shut the car door and turn it off. While I wanted to labor at home a long as possible, I didn't quite expect things to move quite as fast as they did.
I was GBS+ and obviously didn't get any antibiotics so we are still in the hosptial for the mandatory 48 hour observation. Because my water broke right before he was born he was a low risk for contracting it. He is having a hard time maintaining his blood sugars so he is having to have his heel poked every 3 hours. Sad It breaks my heart every time they have to do it. We are hoping that with the 15 ml of supplementation after bfing that it will help him maintain his sugars and that he will be able to go home tomorrow.
