Welcome to your lodge!
Welcome due date buddy! I can't believe our April (sheesh!) lodges are up already.
Welcome to your lodge...
I can't believe I am already almost to the 36th week. This pregnancy has gone so fast for me, might be because I have 4 children to take care of I am so very excited to have my baby girl! My husband and I have been married since 1999 and we have been blessed with 3 boys and 1 girl and one angel baby. I always thought I would only have 4 children but when my #4 came out a boy I decided that we needed to try one more time for a sister for my little girl. I have 2 sisters myself and they are 2 of my very best friends. I wanted that for my daughter as well. I got pregnant in 2009 and lost the baby by missed miscarriage at 13 weeks. We decided to wait awhile after my miscarriage to try again so that I could be better prepared emotionally after such a difficult loss. I found out I was pregnant again in July 2010 after trying for just 2 months. Here are some entries from my journal that I thought would be interesting to introduce my pregnancy up until this point:
Thursday July 29, 2010
Took a pregnancy test that came out positive today. I am very nervous to be pregnant again after my miscarriage. I don't want to get my hopes up and have them dashed again. For now we are not telling anyone. I am not even going to think about names or anything until I make it past the point when I miscarried last time. Feeling pretty good pregnancy wise. I think I might be going through a little bit of depression though, I don't feel like doing anything. I am very tired and need a nap in the afternoon even if I have slept 9 or mores hours at night.
Monday August 30, 2010
Had my first Dr appointment today with Dr. Ferguson. I am now 9 weeks along. He said everything looks great. The baby is actually measuring a couple of days bigger than my LMP dates show. My due date is April 6th which is Jesus actual birthday. Maybe that is a good sign? Dr. Ferguson says that this baby is already measuring bigger than Jordan did when I miscarried and that there is less than a 5% chance that I will miscarry again. Possibly even less than a 1% chance. Still not telling anyone though, just in case. I was able to see the baby on ultrasound and hear the heartbeat. I am making Dave go to all of my appointments with me this time, it was nice to have him there. After losing my weight I am not showing as early, I just look like I have put a few pounds back on so that makes it easier to not tell. My sister asked me a couple of weeks ago if I was pregnant and I just told her, "haha, I wish" Don't like being dishonest but I just can't get everyone excited (myself included) for now.
Thursday September 2, 2010
I had a dream last night that I had a beautiful healthy baby girl...the beautiful, healthy part is important. I would like to have another girl but I'm not as picky this time as long as the baby is healthy. We named the baby Chleo in my dream. If I have a girl I don't think I can use that name, not my favorite. Plus we already have a cousin named Chloe and that would be too close and confusing, plus I am not supposed to be thinking about names yet. It's getting harder to not be excited even though I am still nervous. I will let myself get excited after my next appointment and then we will tell everyone.
Monday September 27, 2010
I had my 2nd OB appointment today. I have been really nervous lately especially having this appointment on this day. It was one year ago tomorrow that I went in for my 2nd appointment and the baby had died. Todays appointment thankfully went very well. Everything still looks great and Dr. Ferguson said we might be able to tell the gender at my next appointment. We are getting pizza tonight and having a little family pizza party in order to tell the kids the exciting news.
Tuesday September 28, 2010
We told the kids last night as planned. I started by asking the kids what we should be celebrating since we were having a pizza party. They looked at me like I was crazy but came up with a few ideas. They thought it was just because of family home evening. Finally I asked Dave what we should celebrate and he said, "How about if we celebrate the baby that is in Mom's tummy?" The kids all had really surprised looks on their faces and were very excited. While Elaina was saying the family prayer last night she said, "please bless our baby to be safe". I know they are all a little worried but I am pretty sure everything will be fine.
Monday October 25, 2010
I had my 17 week appointment today and we found out it is a GIRL!!! I am so excited. I had to go to ShopKo right after I left to get a prescription filled and I had to buy something pink while I was there. We have been writing down some boy names since those are usually the hardest for us to come up with but I guess now that list might not be necessary. I also found out in the last month that not only am I due on Christ's birthday, I am also due on my Grandma Carter's 90th birthday. I want to give my baby her name as a middle name, I think that would mean a lot to her. Now I have to come up with a name that goes with Fern. Pretty sure we will not be using any other plant names so everyone doesn't think we are hippies!
Tuesday November 9, 2010
Wow! Picking a name is hard business. I have a couple of favorites but I can't get my hubby to agree. He likes them, he just isn't sure that should be her name. He has been trying to come up with some funny names to go with Fern. The best one is Ima Fern. I don't think we will use that. My favorite is Adalyn. I also really like Amarah but Dave says that sounds like an African American name. He isn't sure it would fit with our other kids names. I disagree, I think it is adorable. Some of the other names we have on the list are: Mia, Hannah, Grace, Morgan, Aniyah, Lorraine and Miri. Who knows maybe she will be named something that isn't even on the list. Luke has been so funny lately. He suggested on Sunday that we name the baby Circlebutt (notice that is NOT on the list). He was snuggling with me after he woke up this morning and put his head on my stomach and said, "good morning baby!" He then proceeded to talk to her, poke at her and then insisted I read a story to both of them. It was very sweet. I just hope he likes her as much outside of my belly as he does inside. I have felt the baby move quite a few times already but the kids haven't been able to feel her yet. I am very excited to share that with them, it is a real comfort to feel her and have that assurance that everything is fine. We are going to get some lumber on Thursday so that we can finish a couple of bedrooms in our basement and get a room ready upstairs for the baby. That is exciting to get started, I just hope it is done in time. If not I guess we might have to have a crib in our walk-in closet for a couple of months.

Went in for my 29 week appointment today. Got to see the baby on ultrasound (my doctor is awesome and does one for me on every appointment!) She has felt to me like she is sitting sideways but the ultrasound shows her head down and ready to go. This was my last monthly appointment so we go to every 2 weeks and then weekly. Usually that makes it go pretty fast for me so I am glad to be at that point. She is so wiggly lately which is a good thing but I notice she really perks up about 10:30- 11:00 when I am just about ready to turn in for the night. We might have a night owl on our hands. I think we have finally picked a name for her. I think I was holding out on naming her Adalyn just so I could nickname her Ada. I still love that nickname but decided if we went with Dave's current favorite then I could still call her Ada. So her name (most likely) will be Alexandria Fern. I like it because there are endless possibilities for nicknames and if she just doesn't end up being Ada to me then maybe she will be Alex, Alexa, Andi, Ally, Addie or Dave's favorite little Al (makes me think of the weird next door neighbor on Tool Time so I don't think that will be what I call her!) or we will just call her all of them and really confuse her. Elaina has about 20 nicknames, very few of which contain her name and she is fine so I am sure Ada will be too! Luke has been so cute with this pregnancy, I know he is going to be such a good big brother to her. He has to have cuddle time with me every morning when he wakes up and also after his nap every afternoon. After he cuddles with me he tells me he wants to see the baby (meaning he wants to see my bare belly). He then proceeds to kiss and hug my belly saying, "I love you, Ada" and then sometimes sings to her. His favorite song to sing to her from the start has been Scooby, Scooby Doo, Where are you, but he also sings I am a Child of God to her. It is so sweet I love that little boy so much I don't know what I would do without him. It will be interesting to see if her favorite future cartoon is Scooby Doo! All of the kids have had a chance to feel her kick and all rush to me when I tell them she is kicking so that they can feel her. I think I will miss not having that feeling again if she does end up being my last. I will enjoy it for the next couple of months just in case

Went in today for my yucky glucose test (I am a little late doing this since I am already 29 weeks) . I have been worried lately that I might have it this time since I wasn't showing for so long and then suddenly got huge. Suddenly people who didn't know I was pregnant are asking when I am due. I really hope I don't have it since I am really having a hard time talking myself into eating salad even though that is what I had every day for lunch before I got pregnant. Crossing fingers hoping everything is fine.
Wednesday January 26, 2011
Got a call from Dr. Ferguson's office telling me my glucose was a little on the high side and giving me the option of taking the 3 hour test. I decided I better be on the safe side and do it so I headed there this morning. The test consists of having your blood checked after fasting, drinking a super sweet, gross drink (on an empty stomach) and then having your blood retested ever hour for 3 hours. My arm is very bruised to say the least but I don't think I have gestational diabetes. A little update on the basement situation: I think we will have at least one bedroom done by the time Ada comes. Dave was able to finish the heating, insulation and sheetrocked Luke and Jared's room all last week. It really impressed me that he got all of that done so quickly. I went a couple of weeks ago and got fabric for the baby's bedding but can't seem to motivate myself to work on it. It will be really cute when I am done. I think it would be more motivating if there were a crib set up waiting for cute bedding at least that is my excuse for now!
Well, that is probably enough for this post...I will do another one with some more up-to-date information.
Sorry that last post was WAY too long! Don't blame you if you didn't get through it I thought I would put a little more up-to-date information in this post. I had my 35 week appointment this last Wednesday and my doctor checked me to see if I am dilating. He said I am a 3 on the outside narrowing to a 1 on the inside and 25% effaced. I don't think this will mean that I will deliver early by any means. I have had all of my kids around the 39 week mark so that is what I expect with this one as well but we shall see.
I had my first 2 children vaginally (with epidural) and then had an emergency c-section with my 3rd. My 4th I had a scheduled c-section because my doctor pushed me into it. I had planned a VBAC all along but then ended up moving across the country at 37 weeks. The doctor in Utah that had delivered my previous children told me he would not deliver me VBAC since my insurance paid for a hospital 5 miles away from his office at the other hospital. He said that was too much liability and he wouldn't give up seeing other patients to be with me during the whole labor. At that point I had been through enough emotionally and gave into the scheduled c-section. I have found an amazing VBAC supportive doctor this time around and am going to attempt a natural VBA2C with this pregnancy so it should be completely different than all of my other births. I am excited yet very nervous at the same time. I am still looking for a doula to help me through so hopefully I will be able to get one set this next week. Wish me luck!
Kate, it was great reading your intro. Quite the journey you've been on with the loss (I'm so sorry!) and your first tri. Hugs! SOOO glad your baby *girl* is healthy and happy!!! Isn't that just the best feeling in the world!
Anyway, looking forward to seeing your story unfold more as we move closer and closer to our EDDs. Hope you find a doula soon. Best wishes with that search!
welcome to your lodge. You've had quite a journey
Had a great weekend, my family all came into town to throw me a baby sprinkle. It was so much fun! Thanks sis for all of your hard work, you're the best! She really went all out with the sprinkle theme. We had a chocolate fountain with all kinds of yummy things to dip, cupcake fondue with tons of different sprinkles to add and everything was polka dotted. Everyone had so much fun! By the end you could tell everyone was well sugared up by all of the laughter in the air, it made for a really fun party! Here are a few pics:
The yummy food and my awesome sister:
Cute diaper cake my sis made me:

My little Luke enjoyed the chocolate fountain
The haul (can't wait to put her in all those cute clothes):
Aaawwww! What awesome pics! Your sis did go all out! Too fun!
I had my 36 week appointment today and we were finally able to get a good 3D picture of my little stinker. She has always had her back turned or an arm in front of her face for all of the other ultrasounds so we got some pictures but they were all a little distorted. Wish I could figure out a way to put the ultrasound pictures on here. How do you ladies do it? I just have printouts so do I just take a picture of it with my camera? Anyway, the doctor said everything looks good and if I go into labor at this point they won't stop me. Definitely not going early here though. My prediction is for April Fool's day. I think even if I don't go then I will tell everyone I had her (not on here of course) just as a joke
Aww love the pics and YAY on the vba2c.
Love the pics!
I hired a doula today! I am so excited. I really feel like doing this natural and my way is possible finally. My husband gave me a bit of a hard time about hiring the doula. He thought it was a waste of money and that I should just get an epidural. I really feel strongly that in order to get this VBAC I so desperately want I need to do it without as many interventions as possible and without the epidural.
So anyways, my doula is named Delores and I think she is going to be so great. She actually trains other doulas and teaches childbirth classes. She said I can join her childbirth class that she is starting next week and she won't even charge me. She has also worked with my OB and has a good relationship with him so everything is working out perfectly. Oh, yea and after meeting with her my husband is on board also!!!
Woohoo for finding a doula!!!
My DH initially wanted me to have an epidural this time  but now he is fully supportive of an unmedicated birth, it makes all the difference. Yay for your DH being on board now!
That is great news!
That's awesome you hired a doula!
Congrats on finding a doula that's a good fit!! And your story is really inspiring - I hope you get the beautiful birth you deserve!
Welcome to your lodge! Wahoo to trying for your VBA2C! I'm sure you will be great. I'm excited to follow your birth. My DH wants to tell everyone we are pregnant again for April Fools, I'm not sure how keen I am on that idea. That seems like it will back fire on us later on and I don't want everyone to get all excited about it and then tell them I was joking and crush their excitement.
An April Fools baby would be fun though.
Yippee! Another VBAC lodge.
My husband was a little unsure about having a doula as well, but he now recommends it to everyone. It made his job a lot easier!
I am home from church today with my 4 year old who was up with diarrhea and puking all night. Great, just what I want to deal with in the last couple of weeks before the baby comes My whole family had the flu a couple of weeks ago and I am not sure how I managed to not get it, I am usually one of the first to get it since I am in the house with sick people all day long. Please, please, please pass me up this time too. I can (just barely) deal with cleaning up their sick messes, I definitely don't want to be the one doing the puking. Shouldn't we be past this already??? It's springtime for crying out loud!
Sorry you are having to go through this! Just at a time when you need to be looking after yourself more....
Thinking of you!
Oh I really really hope you don't get sick!! I'm feeling like it could strike me anytime, too. We've had some sickies around here for a bit, but I've managed to avoid it so far.
Good for you for hiring a doula. It sounds like you found a good fit.
Got a 2 hour nap this afternoon and am feeling so much better, and less sorry for myself My son seems to be feeling better also so if it is a virus it is short lived at least.
Glad to hear he's feeling better. I hope you don't get it! We have the flu and norovirus running rampant in our community. I'm terrified of us catching it!
Oh that stinks! I had the flu with my last kid and it was horrible. Ugh! I hope you feel better.
I am glad the nap helped! I hope you continue feeling better!
I'm glad your son feels better. I hope you haven't gotten sick! I woke up with some sore sinuses this morning. Not good.
Oh no, Sarah! Sorry your not feeling well. Hope it gets better fast. I am very relieved to say nobody else in the house has gotten ill including me. Keeping fingers crossed we all stay that way until after birth day. I had my first natural childbirth class last night with my doula. It was awesome! I haven't done any childbirth classes since having my first and never thought I would need it after having 4 kids but here I am and I'm learning a lot. I am getting a lot less anxious about doing labor without interventions and super excited to see what my body can do! My hubby was great at the class and even said after, "this is going to be such a different experience than all of our other births!" Yes! He gets it, it is going to be different and so empowering! I have an appointment tomorrow so I will update again after that.
Yay Dave....I knew I liked you for some reason...ha ha j/k I'm glad you enjoyed the class! I'm so excited for you!
Went to my 37 week check-up today. I am measuring right on at 37cm. I was a little worried that I had gained 4 lbs when I got on the scale at first. Apparently my doc was standing right behind me and had put his foot on the scale. He tricked both me and the nurse. The final weigh-in I actually lost a lb. It was pretty funny that he would do that, I guess he was feeling playful first thing this morning He did an ultrasound and everything looks great with baby. She had a hold of her ear. I thought this was funny because my DH has a nervous habit of playing with his ear. Several of my children have come out of the womb with the same habit. They all have really floppy, foldable ears and I think it is cute that they play with them like their daddy, apparently it starts sooner than birth!
That's cute about your family and their ears.
Glad to hear you had a nice appointment!
I am glad your appt went well and that you are liking your natural childbirth classes.
I cannot believe it is almost the end of March already. This month has flown by! It will be baby time before I know it. I am feeling a little more prepared now. Got the thank you's from my shower done and addressed, now I just have to make it to the post office on Monday to get them mailed. I have most of my hospital bag packed as well as the baby's and my kids are working on packing an overnight bag today just in case I go into labor and they have to stay at a friend's house overnight.
I am currently sitting in a silent house, ahhhhhhh! My son went swimming with a friend and my DH took my DD on a daddy/daughter date to go bowling while my 2 youngest are napping (yes, my 6 year old still needs a nap on the weekends). My husband and I decided a couple of years ago that it was very important to start having one-on-one time with each of our kids. For Christmas in 2009 we gave them each a gift certificate to choose an activity of their choice with the parent of their choice as their big gift from us. My oldest chose an amusement park for the day with Mom, my daughter chose ice skating and a movie with Mom, my 2nd son chose a water park with Dad and my youngest chose going to the Barnum and Bailey circus with Dad. They also got to stay in a hotel overnight with that parent so unlimited cartoons, jumping on the bed, swimming, junk food, staying up all hours of the night, basically everything they don't get to do at home It was so great, we were really able to make some fun memories together. In fact the kids liked it so much they wanted us to do that for Christmas again this year but with the baby coming that wouldn't be possible because I BF exclusively. Would be a little hard to do some of those activities with a newborn. Anyways, so this year instead we are just doing smaller outings with the kids (2-3 hours). It has been something that has helped bring us closer together as a family so I thought I would share it with you ladies.
Hope you are all having a great weekend and we'll see if that giant moon tonight makes anyones water break! Crossing fingers for some of you who are past date!
Oh yea, I forgot I was going to ask you guys about fun things you have done for dates while hugely pregnant. My hubby and I do weekly dates (we are each in charge of planning a month at a time) but next weekend is our 12th anniversary and I wanted to do something special and it is my turn to plan. I know we are going to go out to eat at a nice restaurant but what else could we do that would be fun but not too strenuous? Last night we went out with our friends and had dinner and went to a play. Any ideas would be great!
that sounds like a great thing to do with the kids. I'm hoping to start that soon with ours.
As for an anniversary celebration, I have no idea, but congrats on 12 years!
Happy soon to be anniversary! Since it is getting nice out, what about a drive in movie? do you guys have one of those near you? It's kinda fun to get a blanket out and lay in the grass watching a movie.
Our DD is Addelyn, I never even thought of calling her Ada, what a cute nickname! We just call her Addie.
We are the worst with dates. :/ We usually end up at dinner and that's it. Sorry no help. Glad things are going well for you though.
Small things we enjoy:
-a drive in the country, exploring roads
-working on a project together: making a photo book for a child, a garden project, painting a room together...
-Birdwatching, walking a trail
-Shopping for a gift
-Browsing in a book store
-buying plants at a nursery
I woke up feeling really achy this morning in my pelvis and back. Usually I go to bed achy and wake up ready to go. Over the last couple of days I have had to time contractions a couple of times but usually after 30-45 minutes of timing they stop... before that they were every 5 minutes and lasting for 1 1/2-2 min. I am really hoping that this is a good sign and my body will start with contractions this time, usually my water breaks and then I have to go right to the hospital. I would really like to labor at home for a while. I am off to the grocery store this morning. Maybe all of the walking/lifting will start some proper contractions or at least stretch my muscles out so I'm not achy anymore. Have a great Monday everyone!
Good luck! I hope the bouts of contractions turn real for you and you get to labor at home.
I think the one on one thing is a FABULOUS idea. How cool for the kids. As for date night... what is that. Sigh!
I love my doctor! I had my appointment this morning and asked him about episiotomys. His reply was that he almost never does them. He said he has maybe 1 or 2 each year that he has to cut. He also said that he can usually make it so that his patients don't even tear. I wish he had been my doctor when I had my first c-section. I think it would have never happened. I lost another lb this week so my total weight gain is only 23 lbs. I am measuring great and I also talked to him about avoiding Premature Rupture of Membranes. He was fine with not checking my cervix unless I decide that is what I want so we didn't (apparently that may have been the reason my water broke before having contractions with my other kids). I have another childbirth class tonight with my doula, should be a good day!
I hope your class goes well and I am really glad you like your doctor. That is so important!
I'm so glad you have such a wonderful doctor. He sounds great. Hope you have a good class today!
Thanks for all of your ideas on dates! I think we are going to go to a comedy club and out for a nice dinner. Maybe all of that laughing will start contractions I am really feeling good right now and don't mind keeping her in there a little longer though. I remember hardly being able to move with my other kids at this point. I think the one thing that makes me want this baby out now is when the sun is shining and I see my nice garden outside ready to be planted. I know there is no way I could bend over to get seeds in the ground right now and it is too muddy to sit. Oh well, hopefully mid April won't be too late to get peas, beets and spinach in. Yum! Can't wait for some homegrown produce!
a comedy club sounds like a fun date. I hope its a great night for you both!
