Yahoo I'm so excited, too! We'll see if the little monkeys let me get a story up...

I'm 27, DH is 26, and we're expecting our third little boy May 5th. Our story isn't too exciting. We met at college because we lived in the same dorm and ended up spending time together because we were both much more interested in doing our homework than partying. Started dating pretty quickly, got engaged after 2 years, then got married when we graduated. I had baby fever even before we graduated, but DH wanted to wait a few years. He started grad school, I started working, but hated my job. After a bit I got through to him and DS1 was conceived, on the first try, 8 months, to the day after we got married. I had a completely uneventful pregnancy, other than terrible m/s.

TMI, but what birth story isn't?
At 36w with DS1 I had red/pink spotting. It lasted two days and got me all excited. At my next appointment I was 1cm and 50%. I stayed there for 3 weeks and I had bloody show at 38w6d. Early morning of 39w1d I was kept up by uncomfortable contractions. I eventually fell asleep and when i woke was terribly disappointed that they had disappeared. I complained to DH who suggested DTD. Afterwards, I noticed I was bleeding. It wasn't super heavy, but I got worried and called the doc. While waiting for her to call me back the bleeding became lighter and lighter pink and more watery, so when she called I said "I think my water might have broken". It took some convincing before she believe it was more than normal "leftovers" from DTD. After breakfast, I went in to L&D. They verified that it was my water, but they kept me on the monitors for over 2 hours. I had contractions every 8 min but they were painless and I made no progress (still 1cm 50%). Then the doc told me DS was having some decelerations they didn't like and they wanted to induce. There went my hopes for a natural birth, but I was super excited anyway.

They started the pit at 3:30pm. I felt the contractions almost immediately. By 5:30 they were no more than 2min apart and lasting 1min each and I was in extreme pain. I begged for the epidural, but was at 3cm so they wanted me to wait an hour. Somehow DH got me through that and at 6:30 I got the epidural. My mom came to help support me. Sometime around then they turned off the pit because I wasn't fully uncontracting. At 8:30 they checked at I was 9cm (5 hours after starting pit). They waited an hour, but I didn't get the urge to push, so at 9:30 I started directed pushing.

I pushed and pushed and pushed. DS descended pretty quickly, but then stopped just short of crowning. There was a terrible medical resident who kept telling me "come on, you can push just a little bit more" and if I had the energy I would have lashed out at him. It was just the wrong thing to say. After an hour and a half of pushing and an episiotomy the doctor decided to get the vacuum and had a pediatrician come in. DH and my mom said things got very busy and focused. The vacuum did the trick and at 11:10pm Dec 8th, after pushing for an hour and 40 minutes, DS1 was born. He was 7lbs 7.5oz, 20.5", with a 14.5" head. He had gotten stuck because his hand was up by his face. He had the cord twice around his neck very tightly. His first apgar was 3 and he was whisked away, gray, still, and silent, to be given oxygen. At 5 minutes his apgar was up to 9, so they let me hold him, briefly, before taking him to NICU for observation. So, I got my 3rd degree tears stitched up while having no idea how my baby was doing. It's fortunate I was completely exhausted or I would have been beside myself with worry. They took me to PP and I was too swollen to pee so I ended up with a catheter.

DS1 did well and joined me in my PP room around 3:30am. He latched well and nursed well. Recovery was rough for me. I was so sore and swollen. I went home 2 days PP, although I was offered an extra day. The first night home sucked and DH, being a student, didn't get any time off. But, we made it through it.

We stopped preventing when DS1 was 6 months, but I was BFing. We conceived DS2 when DS1 was 11.5 months. DS2 self-weaned at 13m having never had a drop of formula. My pregnancy with DS2 was pretty much identical to the first. Easy except for m/s, and DS2 liked to hang out low. I had spotting at 37w3d along with uncomfortable contractions every 5 minutes for 6 hours. Nothing came of it. I was 2cm and 60% at 38w and continued having little bouts of contractions. I was offered induction at 39w1d, but turned it down. I had bloody show at 39w3d and at 5am at 39w5d woke to a contraction. As soon as I felt it I thought "That was real.", something which hadn't happened with the earlier ones. They started 8-10 min apart. Around 7am they jumped at 5 min apart. I rested at home on all fours hugging a birth ball. At 8:30 they jumped to 2 minutes apart and we got ready to go. We got to the hosp at 9:15 and when I checked in the guy at the desk asked if I was there for an induction or a c/s. Apparently I was handling labor very well! My mom met us at the hosp.

I spent 20min in triage. Baby looked awesome on the monitors and I was 5cm and 80%. Lying on my back to get checked made the contractions much worse. I walked to my room and labored on all fours hugging the birth ball. Around 11am I started feeling like I should push. The doc checked and I was 7cm, fully effaced, and the pressure was from my bulging waters. She offer to break my water and after the nurse said "It'll make the pain worse, but you'll probably have him out within 10 contractions" I said "Okay, I'll take the unbearable pain!" The relief when the doc broke my water was amazing... until she told me she wanted me to lie on my side to help him rotate. It hurt a lot. But it didn't take long before I started pushing involuntarily. 10-20 minutes of pushing, with an episiotomy I didn't ask for, and DS2 was born. He kicked the whole time I was pushing and came out pink and screaming at 11:48am Aug 12. I helped lift him to my chest. It was amazing. His aprgars were 9 and 9. He was almost exactly the same size as his brother, just an ounce heavier at 7lbs 8.5oz, 20.5", and a 14.5" head. He nursed like a champ at 45 minutes. My recovery was much easier, although due to low blood sugar I fainted my first time out of bed, so was pretty much stuck in bed until I left the hosp. DS1 adjusted wonderfully to DS2 and DH had a week off, which was great.

More later. DS2 woke and DS1 wants to go for a walk!

My DS1 kicked and his feet slid across my sides while he was coming out. It was the strangest feeling. I even had an epi but it didn't work, obviously. Wink

This pregnancy has been like the others so far: easy except for the m/s. DS2 self-weaned at 13.5 months, again when I was2m pregnant and my milk dried. He also never had a drop of formula. Biggrin I'm planning a natural hospital birth with a MW. We moved in Oct so this is a new hosp and a new preactice. Both are veriy NCB friendly. Smile I'm hoping to get to ue one of the labor tubs at the hosp. We'll see if I get a room with one.
I had my 36w appointment today and everything looks great. I did my GBS swab and hopefully that will be negative again. I told the MW I feel like I could go a few more months and she laughed and said "We can give you up to 6 more weeks." I'm expecting baby to arrive between 39 and 40 weeks again. I'll have my first cervix check at 38w and if things are favorable could have a membrane sweep then. The current plan is to decline if it's offered. I'm kind fo hoping for a due date baby because then I'd have 12-8, 8-12, and 5-5. Biggrin

A few pictures
DS1 at an hour or two old in NICU:

and the next day

DS2 just born

the next day (looking just like his brother)

and 5 days old and already a pound heavier

I can't wait to see if this little guy comes out the same size as his brothers, looks like them, and gains weight like them. My first two loved milk. They put on a pound a week for the first two months and had tripled their birth weight by 6 months.

Wow Virginia! I can't believe you're about to have baby number 3 already! Why is it everyone else's pregnancies seem to go so much faster than my own. Lol

Welcome to your birth lodge! I really enjoyed reading your birth stories. It was nice to know I'm not the only one that stayed too swollen to pee after the baby was born.

So, nothing much going on. I feel pretty awesome most of the time, like I'm still in the 2nd tri. I kind of can't believe I'll be having this baby in about 3 weeks!
Of course, there are also times when he shoves himself down low and there's tons of pressure. Then I feel like he's coming any minute. Lol Nothing happening on the contraction front. I've had frequent BH since 12w and they're getting stronger, but nothing exciting yet.

That is lovely you feel so well this late in the game. Smile

Are you ready for the baby, everything set out and looking cute?

Hahaha. No. This weekend we need to move the changing table out of the older boys' room, move some furniture in our room, set up the cosleeper, rearrange the car seats to make room for one more, and so on.

I had some contractions last night which I felt all through my hips. That's where I felt labor contractions with my first two. But, they didn't feel quite right. I didn't get that "this is it" feeling I had with my first labor contractions with DS2. And, since they disappeared, I guess i was right. I'm having some cramping today, too, but nothing dramatic. My body geared up early for the others, as well, so I'm pretty sure this one will be waiting a few more weeks.

I took a bunch of pics of myself in the yard yesterday. Going through them, I think this might be my favorite. Smile

Welcome to your lodge. I loved reading through your previous experiences and glad that the second one went easier than the first. I'm sure this third one will be great Smile

Love that picture!

I've had some cramping and intestinal issues today. It darn well better not be baby because I am not ready yet. I also have plans for tomorrow. A friend I haven't seen for 3 years is in town for the day, so baby has to hold off. I'd like him to wait another 2 weeks!

ETA: I think he's happy where he is. Everything has settled down. I expected it to, but it's still a relief!

I had a good friend come into town the day I gave birth and I missed seeing her... so I'm glad you'll be able to visit with your friend. I know how it feels!

37 week appointment... mixed news. I look good. Baby's active and his HR is good. But I didn't gain any weight and my fundal height didn't change. The MW said "Hmm. You're 37 weeks and you're not measuring much. I think I can give you 35cm." which is where I was last week (same MW measuring). So, if there's no change next week they'll probably want to do an u/s. I've been measuring 2w behind off and on, but still... I'm a little nervous knowing that I could go in next week, get an u/s, and if anything looks wrong could be induced. Fortunately, I know my MWs won't want to induce unless necessary.
No cervix check until next week. Hopefully he's just low. Oh, and after I left I realized they forgot to take my BP (they were down a PA again and she usually does it). So that hasn't been checked since 33w, but I'm not worried. I feel great, had no protein, and have no swelling, and no history of BP issues. And it was low when it was last taken.

I had a real-feeling contraction this morning. It felt exactly like how labor started with DS2 (DS1 water broke) and both my others started in the morning. I spent a while waiting before I realized there wasn't going to be a 2nd contraction. Whew.

Today I need to deal with the carseats and some baby furniture and get a nap in... just in case. It suddenly feels a lot more real to me!

very cool. I've had the carseat in now for a few weeks as DH refuses to do them, he thinks I do them better and I secretly agree. Hope you're able to finish your to do list

I always measure a couple weeks behind with my kids. By the end with DS1 I was 2 weeks behind and by the end of DS2 I was 3 moving to 4 weeks behind. No problems just small baby's and DS2 was really low and I carry my baby's more in.

I've been a bit snowed under lately Smile so sorry I haven't been around to post here!

My first two pregnancies I measured maybe slightly behind each time and ended up with two babies almost the same as your two (7lbs 8oz and 7lbs 7.5ozs). So I didn't even have small babies...

How are you feeling now?

How are you doing? I did the car seat last week. Did you get it all ready?

pico83 (not verified)

I'm doing okay. I had trouble sleeping last night because I had tons of BH. I went into nesting mode for a few hours yesterday, so things are almost ready for baby now. Smile The carseats are arranged and we did two half hour test drives yesterday with no objections from the big boys. Smile yay.

I decided to eat a high calorie diet this week in the hopes that it'll do something if LO isn't growing well (not too worried). So I had chocolate cake for breakfast. Yum.

My concern right now is that DS1 woke with a cold yesterday. His cough sounds terrible. I doubt they'd let him visit me at the hosp sounding like that, so I really hope baby waits until it clears up! He's super excited and it would be disappointing for everyone if he couldn't visit. Sad

Oh no. I hope he gets better fast and is the only one that gets the cough.

And now DS2 chipped a tooth. So I get to take a 20 month old to the dentist and restrain him while very, very pregnant. During naptime. I hope this goes okay.

goodness. DS chipped his tooth when he was 1 however they didnt' do anything for him as no nerves were hit. Hopefully they won't have to do anything for him but give him the all clear.

pico83 (not verified)

Yeah, all clear. I'm pretty bummed he'll be stuck with it for so long because it's on his front tooth and seems so obvious to me. Hopefully it's just pregnancy hormones making me overreact and I'll realize soon it really doesn't matter.

DS1 chipped a tooth when I was pregnant with DS2. We didn't take him in for it and a good half, if not more, of his tooth was missing. We talked to a dentist and he said that if it didn't break out of the gum and it doesn't turn colors we can just let it be. If we took him in they would have filled it in so it looked normal and we DID NOT have the money to do that. So we just watch it. Looks funny but hey it will only be that way till his 6 or so, at least it's not an adult tooth. Oh and it's been well over a year and still looks good, no discoloration or anything and it's grown more sense then and doesn't look as bad as it did.

I remember feeling very upset about my DD chipping her tooth when she was little. No one really notices it though... it's worse for Mama!

I hope the virus leaves your house quickly!
