Welcome to your lodge
Welcome to your lodge! How exciting!
Can't believe you're so close!!! Looking forward to following your journey:-)
Yay! Thanks This is my first lodge :woohoo: Guess I’ll start off with a bit about me. I’m Alex (Alexandria) and I’m 22 years old. DH, Adam is 23 years old. We have one daughter, Callie who’s 3 years old.
DH and I started dating July 2006, I was a month out of high school and he had already been out a year. We were both young (and stupid I guess I can say now) and we moved in together for the month of November. Low and behold, DD#1 was conceived that month. That pregnancy was a roller coaster of emotions between family and our relationship but we stayed together, grew together, and DD#1 Callie was born August 5, 2007 (over a month before I turned 19). My EDD was July 27th but I must have ovulated later (like I know I did this pregnancy) because she was “late” and I was induced at 41 weeks 1 day.
My induction was ideal for an induction, I was at 3 cms when I was checked at 39 weeks but never progressed more than that. I was hooked up to pitocin around 6pm on Saturday night and my water broke around 4am on Sunday morning. I got an epi around 5am and DD was born at 12:14pm. She was 9 lbs 1 oz and was covered in vernix, so that was a sign to me that perhaps they messed up on my due date even though she was so big. Since then I’ve gotten ahold of my medical records (when I had to send them to the midwives for this pregnancy) and my first EDD according to my first ultrasound was really for August 4th!
May 2009 I graduated with my AA in Child Development from Community College, I stayed in school full-time during my pregnancy and after Callie’s birth. DH and I got married June 20, 2009. We knew we wanted to TTC right after getting married so I went off the NuvaRing in May 2009 and we finally got our BFP the day before DH’s 23rd birthday. I had been temping/charting for quite some time so I knew when I ovulated and according to FF our “chances” were practically none because of the “window” but apparently it was meant to be (finally I might add). This time around I knew I wanted to have a different birth, especially since it’ll be my last pregnancy so I decided to go with midwives and plan a homebirth. It was hard at first to get DH on board but he soon did, I think he realized he didn’t have much of a choice since I’m pretty headstrong and he realized that my first pregnancy/delivery wasn’t ideal. My EDD from ovulation is November 15th but my ultrasound and midwives say November 14th. We’re having another baby girl and we’re naming her Brooke Malin.
Here are some pictures from Callie’s birth & Postpartum:

Welcome to your lodge!
I'm going to jump in here because I think this whole lodge idea is pretty neat Welcome to your lodge! The pics of your DD are adorable- and you look great too!
I've been waiting for this lodge! I remember you waiting anxiously for Callie to arrive and all the false alarms, getting sent home from the hospital, etc.
As for the stretch marks, I didn't get any with Zoe, but did with Liam. Good news is they are already fading away.
Welcome to your lodge! I can't believe a November mamma has a lodge already! Your DD is gorgeous! Newborns with loads of hair are uber cute.
Today started off not so good in that after DH left for work, around 7:30am I couldn't go back to sleep; so I've been tired all day. Usually I sleep through him getting ready and everything but I got up 3-4 times throughout the night to go to the bathroom so I didn't sleep very hard. Of course though the one morning I can't go back to sleep is the morning that DD decides to sleep in until almost 11am! I wasn't too bummed because I was able to get a bunch of serged wipes done. Joanns was having a great sale (still are) on their flannel so I stocked up and after looking at it decided I should just sew/serge it all up. I was also able to embellish a long-sleeved onesie with the letter "b" for Brooke in my favorite cupcake cotton woven fabric.
Besides that nothing really exciting has been happening baby wise except she's still as active as can be! There's a few times when I'll feel a pinching type sensation but it's not often and when it does happen Brooke isn't moving around so who knows what it is. Today was a lazy day but tomorrow I have a bunch of cleaning to do for my shower on Sunday and DH will be putting up the shelving and pole stuff in both Brooke's closet and the office one (so we can clear off the futon in there for MIL to stay on when she comes up during my labor if DD is sleeping).
I'm hoping to be able to go to bed soon and sleep in as long as I can tomorrow morning
Welcome to your lodge! I'm excited to follow it.
My DS has the same (8/5) bday as your DD!
Hope you get a nice sleep in tomorrow!
I got to sleep in until 10:30am which was well needed, and it helped that I only had to get up to go to the bathroom once (at 4:30am!). I was happy to be able to sleep on either side and have no hip/join pain :woohoo: Tomorrow I'm hoping to sleep in again, until at least 10am before my friend comes over at 11:30am to start setting up for the baby shower. DH was able to do the shelves in Brooke's closet so I can put everything back into the closet to make room so there's not a mess on the floor anymore. I'm thinking I'll be heading to bed early tonight since I'm already exhausted right now, so maybe I'll try to be in bed by 8 or 8:30pm.
Loving the pics. So cute!
Welcome to your lodge, great pics, you were a beautiful bride and your daughter had the most beautiful head of hair I love hairy babies too
I'm glad you got to sleep in, lucky you until 10:30, that's almost nap time for us lol.
Yay for sleeping in! I'm up at 5:30 every morning, but I feel like I am so much more rested than when I was pg and couldn't sleep much at all due to discomfort. Are you feeling pretty good still? Any reflux/heartburn or aches/pains? It's nice that you are going through the last month when it is beginning to cool down.....less swelling that way.
Welcome to your lodge!
What a gorgeous newborn callie was- love the hair and the bright eyes
I'm feeling really good actually, like I could go another 3-4 weeks The only uncomfortable parts is the few nights when I have to wake up more than once to go to the bathroom in the middle of the night but the past 2 nights haven't been too bad and I haven't woken up with sore hips/bones/pelvis. I've been having some reflux at bedtime and throughout the night but it all depends on what I ate for dinner, and I know what triggers it so I take the chance. I've also haven't been swelling at all (I didn't with Callie) so that's a big plus too.
Yesterday I had my diaper shower and it was very nice, I had a fun time and got some super cute OS RaR diapers and a FB OS (and have another two coming in the mail from my mom). Brooke will be set (almost) in the diaper department, at least once she outgrows the nb stash I have built for her and I can resell that to fund my OS stash... I think that's one of things that I'm looking forward to when she comes, is putting cute cloth on her bum.
One of my favorites gifts was from MIL for Callie (mostly), it's a baby book type fill-in thing that's mostly from her perspective. It's something her and I can do together before Brooke comes then has me interview Callie at various times after Brooke is born. I think Callie will enjoy doing it, and really enjoy reading/looking at it when she gets older; seeing how I love looking at my baby book, had I had something like this I would still love to look at it.
Today Callie and I get to run errands and we'll probably stop by the park, if it's not rainy since she was home all day yesterday for the shower. I have a feeling I'm going to have a burst of energy today, like I did yesterday so who knows what all I can get done.
Well I know where you can get a good deal on some FB OS diapers right now. LOL
Welcome to your lodge!
I wonder if your 'burst of energy' is a nesting instinct?!?
If I wasn't saving up paypal for the last half of my doula payment I'd be utilizing that deal for sure!
The doula will be worth it. Dh and I are trying to pay off some debt so I am selling off all my in-stock inventory to help with that. We want to get to a place where I can just stay home and not work full time. The FB are very cute. I love how they come with the adjustable elastic.
Yay for sleep and woot for new cloth! I registered for a few cloth items but everyone avoided them like the plague. Oh well, shopping for stuff has been super fun ;).
welcome to your lodge. thanks for sharing pics! that is awesome about getting lots of cloth!
I agree that the doula is worth every penny. That book idea is just wonderful! I wish I thought of that for Zoe to do for Liam.
It's not too late
I found the book on amazon: http://www.amazon.com/Big-Sibling-Book-Babys-According/dp/0307461971
welcome to your lodge (I'm apparently running a little late). I hope this birth is everything you've dreamed of.
Today I had my midwife appointment (37 weeks, 1 day along) and everything was good. I put on 5 lbs from my last appointment where I was weighed (34 weeks, 5 days along) so my total weight gain for this pregnancy so far is around 27 lbs, I gained 29 lbs with DD from start to my last OB appointment at 40 weeks with her. Brooke's heart rate was in the 140s and she's still head down with her butt and back outward on my right hand side. I did my GBS swab so they just have to send that off to the lab and I have to just wait to hear back. If it comes up positive then I'll be doing their garlic remedy thing then retesting, but I'm not too worried, I wasn't positive with DD so I'm hoping it comes back negative. The best part I think was being able to give them the cash to pay them off :woohoo: (even though they're waiting on a $500 check from a scholarship I won) but since they know it's on it's way we don't have to pay anymore towards the midwives.
My midwife mentioned she will have me do garlic suppositories before my first GBS swab. Is that what your midwife does? I had never heard of that technique and when I told my DH about it he laughed and laughed. I love my hippie midwife and I can't argue with results, but I can't get over feeling a bit ridiculous about garlic suppositories.
It certainly sounds strange, but I had no less than 3 care providers (one a nurse for an OB) suggest garlic- not even suppositories, but simply putting a clove of garlic up there- for a recurrent yeast infection. The idea made me chuckle (and was too weird for me to try at the time) but there might just be something to it.
Hooray for scholarships, that's great!
I'm not sure if it would involve sticking garlic anywhere or eating more of it.... hopefully I don't have to find out.
Yay for a good appointment... and for scholarship money! I had never heard the garlic thing. Interesting.
Hi Alexandria. I'm so excited to see you here. I didn't know you were planning a home birth. I'm looking forward to reading all about it! Also, how very exiting about getting cloth for the new baby. We will likely have to purchase all of ours. I can relate to the person that said people treated cloth like it was the plague - I'm not anticipating receiving any - LOL! I'm glad to hear that you're feeling pretty good and so glad that I popped into this forum before I missed all the excitement!
yay for a good app!
I didn't get much sleep last night, but not by choice. DH let DD sleep with me, he slept on the couch so she just wanted to talk and mess around until.... 12:30/1am!
I'm hoping to take a nap, and have her take one with me, but I can hear her talking and playing in her room, so it might be difficult. I think I dropped this morning for sure though because when I was eating breakfast (or getting it ready) I felt a lot of pressure; since then though it's not so bad. This morning/last night I had some "cramping" I guess, but nothing that's significant, or seems like it. I think for me it's weird because I never got that feeling like I had a hard time breathing or anything, maybe because I'm tall (5' 9") and I have a long torso so there's more room for her but I never felt restricted so it's hard to just say, "oh I can finally breathe! so I know she dropped." Then I've been having more BH, but it's more so of me feeling it coming on, then only the area where Brooke is tightens up, not my whole stomach so I'm not sure if that's much of a BH or what it means.
I keep telling Brooke to wait until next week at least, and Callie keeps telling her that too so hopefully she'll listen. I guess part of me feels like I'm only 36 weeks along even though I'm 37 weeks and I've expected Brooke to want to come either on or after her due date like her sister.... but I guess the good part is, she'll come when she's ready, so if that's next week then it is. I'm not ready to not be pregnant anymore and I feel like it's still too soon.
Being tall (or not, in my case!) is a definite factor in how much abdominal pressure you'll feel at the end of pregnancy, but pressure in your pelvis is a good sign the baby dropped. Planning on having the baby later than sooner is also a great plan, you'll be mentally ready in good time but in lieu of complications the extra few weeks are only a good thing for her little body
I figured it out! --- The best way to describe the feeling down there that I've been having since last night (off and on). It feels more "painful" than what the swab feeling is like when you get a pap. So I guess it's safe to assume it's something going on with my cervix perhaps? I think I'll turn on a HypnoBabies track and try to fall asleep, and see if it happens again and how my relaxation helps out.
Totally sounds like you are getting some cervical action. I had pinchy cervix feelings the night before Will was born. Hope you get some rest today, just in case someone makes an early arrival!
I got a good night's sleep, didn't wake up to use the bathroom except for once, but it was the time DH usually gets up to get ready for work (and he was sound asleep). I love listening to the HypnoBabies tracks at nighttime, even though 90% of the time I fall asleep and wake up mid-night with it off and my headphones still on Today I'll be running errands and maybe DD and I will go to the Wild Animal Park, that is if DH took his truck today and not my car (I've been having issues with his truck). If he took mine though I'll be sticking around at home and going on walks around the neighborhood. I guess the good part about being in nesting mode is the house is always clean now
Yay to getting a good nights sleep! I was the same with my nighttime listening and the headphones...lol...I'd take up tangled in them sometimes. Hope you make it out to the Wild Animal Park today. This is the perfect time of year because its not too hot and you can get some serious walking in. Man I miss living in SoCa! Hope there is some cervical action happening for you with all those new feelings but that little lady hangs on until she is ready.
Glad things are going well. I hope you get some good sleep!
Yay for good sleep!
Another great night! Fell asleep during the track again and woke up at some point to take the headphones off. Didn't wake up until 5am to use the bathroom and for some reason had a bug crawling on me (ewww! -- don't know how it got in the house!). Went back to bed and got up in time to take DD to preschool. Since this morning after waking up I've had probably 5 BH contax so nothing too exciting. I have my friend's baby shower tomorrow morning then on Sunday DH, DD, and I are going T or Ting at his cousin's house then Monday is November 1st! :woohoo:
I think it's surreal for me to think that if I didn't know when I Oed, that my EDD would be November 7th... and even then, it's surreal that on Sunday I'll be 38 weeks.
Sounds like you're getting more sleep than I am at this point:).
That's interesting, the difference between your LMP EDD and O EDD. I'm glad you know your O date! Mine wouldn't be too different either way- just a couple days- so I never really think about it.
Either way, you're right- you're so close!
Eek! I haven't been on PO much and you're 5 pages in to your lodge??!!?
Welcome :). You look amazing! I can't wait to read about your next few weeks & your home birth
Yay for some good sleep!
Its crazy that its almost Nov. already. Not too much longer now. I excited for you for you homebirth has well!
Another great night, same wake up time to use bathroom and fell asleep to the track again. The baby shower was nice and fun, it was also nice to get away from DH and DD for a little bit. I also got a nice nap in today, fell asleep to a HypnoBabies track too so now I feel all refreshed. For the rest of the night I'm doing laundry, hopefully I can get it all done this weekend and other than that, I've been keeping the house all clean/picked up. I haven't had any BH today (or not many that I notice) but tons of reflux I also started my postpartum pad preparation with the special herbs that came in my birth kit so I just have to wait half a day and then I can pour them onto the pads and freeze them. I figured it was about time to do it.
TOT was fun with DD last night, and I had a couple BH with some added lower back pain but they weren't anything to get too excited about (I guess). Last night I fell asleep good again, but didn't sleep so soundly, I was having a lot of BH with some cramping, but again, nothing to get excited about.
Today I have to lanolize 2 wool covers and then I'll be fully ready (baby wise) for Brooke to come. Hopefully DD got enough sleep and will be in a good mood today so we can go on a nice long walk and go shopping (and maybe buy stuff, or just look). Luckily we live in walking distance to a shopping center and walking can only help out at this point.
Hooray for being all prepared, that's exciting. I almost purposefully put off a few things like that til the end, just so I have something to do other than wait and anticipate.
Yay for being prepared! ITA that the wait between really feeling ready and baby finally coming can be so frustrating. Enjoy your walk! And your shopping.
DD and I still haven't gone on our walk yet.... but only because when I emailed DH to let him know so he doesn't call the house if he needs to get ahold of me he told me to not put myself into labor until this weekend at least. Poor guy has a ton of stuff he has to do at work and since he's the only one that knows how to do it and set it up he has to do it... although if I did go into labor he would still leave.
Hope DH gets everything done before labor starts! And that he manages to stay relatively unstressed this week.
With my #2 Dh was scheduled for a business trip when I was 38-39 weeks. When his boss found out he sent someone else instead... then DH got teased a lot when LO stayed put for that week.
I had a hard time sleeping last night :/ Part of me thinks it's because DH slept in the office on the futon though in addition to some cramping, BH, and a very active baby who was trying to claw out of my cervix. I listened to 2 HypnoBabies tracks (one was the joyful pregnancy) and was able to get relaxed enough but not fall asleep. Finally I was able to sleep and DD didn't come and wake me up until 9:30am. I'm still tired so hopefully I'll be able to get in a nap sometime today if DD cooperates and takes one with me.
