Aww...I got a little giddy when I saw my name here!

I'll have to write a little get to know me post, if I can ever get DS to go to sleep.

Hmmmm...where do I start?

I'm Lissy(Lee See). I am married, and live in the Northern Va area. We've been up here for 5 years, but I'm originally from FL. I am 32 years old(it's bad when you can't remember your age anymore, I had to think about it).

I teach the first grade, but have taught K, 1, and 2 at various times in my nine years of teaching.

When DH and I first met it was a long distance relationship. We met through friends, online and spoke off and on until we met in person in July 2002 at a music festival. At the time he was touring with a band, so after we hit it off, we had a chance to meet up at a show in Tallahassee. We were together from then on. But he was living in Nashville. The company he worked for ended up going broke, and there wasn't a reason for him to stay there. He ended up moving to FL, but living about 2 hours away.

So we would alternate weekends to travel back and forth and see each other. We did this for around 11 months and we knew we would be together. He proposed in Dec. 03, and we got married in April 04.

He was doing work he didn't love and wanted to move back up to the DC area where he was originally from, so we ended up moving up here in July 05.

It was something else, especially since I never really moved as a kid, and during our first three years of marriage we moved 5 times in three different states.

I knew that I wanted to have a baby before or around 30, so we decided to try in the summer of 06. We took our last hurrah vacation to London, where I took my last BC pills. I had a period in Aug, and got pregnant in September.

Honestly, it was a fairly easy pregnancy. No morning sickness, average weight gain. I worked the entire time teaching second grade.

I had randomly chosen an OBGyn, and they were fine, as I didn't have huge expectations of a natural birth. One of my good friends taught Bradley classes and it interested me, so we ended up attending a class and it changed my mind about what I wanted. So what I ended up thinking of my dr's was that they weren't great.

DS was supposed to be due May 28th, but I was planning on working until the 25th. On the 22nd, I started having contractions and wondered why on earth I was still working. Especially since I worked 1hr 15 min away from my house and hospital. The dr. said I should have him by the end of week, I was dialated to a 2 or 3...

They were also concerned at some point b/c my blood pressure started being higher. Honestly, I don't remember if there were other concerns, as far as I know there weren't.

I ended up staying home after that and I feel like I sat around and didn't do much, which didn't help me go into labor. I had to go to NSTs and DS was always fine, but they would only give me until the 7th until they induced. On the 4th, my water broke (around 3) and we stayed home for a while to avoid traffic probably arrived at the hospital around 8. Someone checked me and in the process they actually broke my water with a huge gush. Maybe I had a leak?

Around 9, the contractions started getting stronger, but they were concerned about his heartrate, and wanted me to stay in bed. This, of course, went against everything that I had learned, but I felt like I had no choice, even though I really didn't want to go that route.

From 9:30-10:00 until 2:00, it was horrible I blocked it out. Riley was born around 2:20 with no drugs. She did end up giving me an episiotomy even though DH said I kicked her and screamed no when she said she had to b/c DS heart rate was dropping.

He ended up fine and I ended up fine, but in the years since, I've not been happy with the experience.

SOOOO... Smile This time around I decided to go with midwives. They do deliver in the hospital, but we are a bit more like minded.

I wanted another summer baby, b/c of teaching and we ended up pregnant in October though I really wanted Sept.

I had some all day sickness for around a month, but after that it's been around the same type of pregnancy as DS, with the exception of this one being a girl Smile

An episiotomy with no meds...OUCH! Funny about you kicking her.

It's nice to have another teacher here to commisserate with. Are you working up to the end again? DD was born at the end of July, so this is my first time teaching past 35 weeks. Our school year starts and ends later here in the NW, so we go until the 3rd week of June but don't start until September 8th.

I'm pretty sure she gave me shot to numb me before she cut, but everything else was natural.

We've had good luck with getting pregnant as soon as we try. I had been tracking my cycle, and wanted a summer baby. It's a little scary to think we get pregnant that easily, but maybe that means it's easier to avoid??? Smile

I will be working up until the 11th, unless something happens earlier. I have a long list of things to do, and I'll have a sub for a little more than a week, so I can't entirely pack up my classroom...things I don't really want to think about. Our school year is about the same as yours Kristen, we did have to add a couple of snow days to the end this year b/c we had sooo much snow. We didn't start until after Labor day this year either.

I had my 36 week appt. yesterday, and it was fairly uneventful, which is good.

Blood pressure was good, no weight gain from the last visit, I think I've gained around 20 pounds so far. Had my GBS swab, hope I'm negative like last time.

She said I was measuring perfectly and hopefully this LO wouldn't plan on staying in as long as DS Smile

They are definitely more medically minded midwives. They are CNM's and they deliver at the hospital. I've asked if there's anything I should be doing, but everyone says no...

So I get all of my ideas from here Smile I haven't started RRL tea, but was thinking of drinking some...Anything else I could be doing? I don't want her to come out until I'm ready, but I don't to be pressured to even think of induction.

I'm glad you are able to deliever with MW's this time around so you are all more on the same page during delivery. I do have to laugh at you kicking her though during your last delivery!

I teach too, currently and mostly in K but have have done 1 and 4 before. I always have to laugh at how many of us have summer babies since its the perfect timing. We have these end of the year all district meetings and there are so many big round bellies walking around, it great! I only have 3 more weeks until the end of the year and opted to take a year leave since this LO will be a fall baby. I ended up doing the same with DS since he was born in Aug. Sometimes I wish I was working up closer to the end though because like you said I end up sitting at home not doing much.

I'm in pretty much the same boat...I don't really believe in induction until baby's in distress (even natural) but I do plan to start having lots of sex, walking as much as I can handle (and/or gentle yoga ball bouncing), and drinking RRL after 37 weeks. I don't expect it to put me into labor but I'm hoping it'll just encourage everything to get going in that direction...can't hurt, right? After 40 weeks I might try EPO (internal, not oral) too, just because at that point I'll only have a week until I'll get kicked to the hospital and would really like to avoid that.

Last time it ended up that my water was leaking, and then they "accidently" broke it.
I wasn't very proactive last time, and I'm planning on being much more this time.

Today I worked on trying to figure out my insurance. It's the same as with DS, but they've been billing things as "out of network." So it's already adding up and DH isn't happy. The insurance guy is calling the midwives office tomorrow. I hope we can figure it out soon, so that we don't have to pay so much.

I've decided to cloth diaper as much as I can even with daycare. I've started buying, so keep me motivated Wink

I really think you'll like cloth! I used cloth with DD even when she was in daycare. Insurance is such a pain. I hope you get it figured out.

I am amazed at all you cd mamas. And it cracks me up to read the posts about it because it's like a foreign language to me. So do you have to wash poop out in the toilet? how does that work? (sorry, I am curious...)

I'm not experienced with cloth but from what I've read you really don't have to worry much about washing out BF poops in the toilet. Later with solids I guess you do dump out and rinse whatever you can into the toilet. But then again you are SUPPOSED to do that with disposables, too--it's illegal to put human waste in the garbage. (Show me one person who has ever actually followed that, though...)

Sorry for popping in here late. Sounds like the first labor experience was less-than-ideal- but I think a lot of us ladies are here because of what we learned the first go-round.

Makes me a little happy to hear you were a little bit sicker this pregnancy and you're having a girl (sorry if I take joy in your temporary misery. I've been a bit sicker this time around and I really hope that means I'm having a girl;)

Sorry about the insurance mess- insurance is pretty much the bane of my existence.

Really?? That would be impossible with most poopy diapers. Wow.

Lissy I hope things are going ok! Insurance...a pain we couldn't live without. grrr.

I don't think it's illegal as in criminally prosecutable, but yes, it's against WHO regulations, and disposable diaper packages all supposedly say to dump them out or to remove the inner liner with the waste and flush it. I don't have any diaper packages here to confirm this, but that's what they say.

Back to the lodge :)...echoing PP with hoping you get everything sorted out! That kind of extra stress is just the worst.

I've been busy at work, life, etc....
I think insurance is getting fixed...let's hope!

So far I've gotten some GMD organic yellow prefolds, 5 thirstie duo 1's, wetbags, and some flips...I need to get enough for DS, who isn't willing to go all the way with potty training.

I'm excited. I'm making some wipes, and I'm actually renting some KL0 from a diaper shop online. This way when we outgrow them, I can get half of my money back and get some more???? prefolds, flips...I'm not sure?

It was really hot here today, like 93 degrees and my feet were a little swollen. I don't think I swelled at all with DS...I think it started when I took my first graders to recess in the 93 degree heat Smile

I drank a lot of water/green tea with mint so hopefully that will help.

My next midwife's appt isn't until the 3rd. So I'm still at 2 week appt's until 38 weeks. Then come the one week ones.

Wow..so I was looking at Kristen's ticker and realized that mine was about the same and I only had 16 days!!!!! Whoa! That's craziness.

We were at a family member's wedding Friday afternoon and Saturday...So it was busy b/c I had to chase DS around. DH was being the videographer, so he was only occasionally available.

Today I am boiling/washing the prefolds that I have and the new flips that I bought.

Tomorrow, we are going to a memorial day party in the afternoon.
I'm not really seeing any progression, in my mind, but I feel like I'm trying to will it off...because I'll still be at work. Which of course I'll be at until 39+ weeks, so I feel like I don't want to do things to get labor going, but I don't want to be ultra late either....oh the conundrum Smile

Sounds like you're keeping very busy!

I know what you mean about not wanting to go too early or too late. It's certainly hard to plan one's work schedule, for sure! I went early last time (water broke at 36w 5d) so I didn't have the waiting game, but I have the feeling that this guy will come late.

I hear that! I am scheduled to work until right before my EDD too, but I don't want to go postdates for a variety of reasons...all more important than missing a few days of work unexpectedly, I guess.

You're getting close now no matter what, though! Exciting!

I am feeling exactly the same way. I'm working until the 16th, which is my EDD according to my last u/s (it's the 17th according to LMP).

I'm still working on diapers too---but getting close. How do you wash your covers? I did mine in cold with some other baby clothes and then just laid them on top of the washer to air-dry.

I hear you about swelling in the heat. It's hot here and I'm having a terrible time with it.

Sounds like you're getting your diapers ready. I'm almost done with mine too. I think I have one load left at this point and then prepping my wool soakers. We are all getting so close!

I think my insurance problems are cleared up. The patient liaison called me back and said they reran my insurance and besides my copay, 90% is covered until I meet my yearly deductible, then 100% should be covered.:yahoo:

Kristen, I actually haven't washed the covers yet, but the flip covers say they can be washed in warm/hot and line dried. Since they haven't been "broken in" by LO, cold should be great Smile

Hmm....I have my 38 week appt tomorrow. I don't feel like I've had any changes happening. I haven't dropped, not feeling any regular contractions etc.

But like I said, I haven't been encouraging anything either.

I'll fill everyone in on how it goes.

I'm so glad you got insurance ironed out! No more stress about that.
Have you ever used flip covers before? I just saw them recenlty and ordered one to try but have to wait till baby comes to see how they are. I'm curious to see how you like them.

I bet that's a huge relief to get the insurance straitened out. What a pain. I'm also curious about the Flip covers. I've checked them out at the Cotton Babies store but I haven't bought any yet. I love the BG 3.0s, but I went with Thirsties and Bummis covers instead. I would love to hear reviews though because I could probably use a few more covers.

I have Flip covers too...obviously haven't used them on a baby yet, but they seem well made and the reviews I've read online seem really positive. In the smallest position they fit my Green Mountain organic prefolds beautifully, so...so far so good!

I also am going to order some disposable inserts for traveling--that was a big selling point for me. Flexibilty is what it's all about in my book these days! Smile

GREAT about the insurance!! What a load off, I'm sure.

Man, I am bad at this...

Brief update because DS is getting HFMD, and passed out at 7:15....poor sick guy!

I had my 39 week appt today....BP was good, weight good, I'm GBS negative Smile

Midwife said her head is low, but not engaged. Honestly, I've not been trying to encourage anything....I'm going to get out the birth ball, and start squatting as of tomorrow (my last day of work).

I've been working like a madman to sort of pack at school, make sub plans, and get all of my final paperwork turned in....we still have school until the 24th.

I'd rather leave now though with concrete plans, instead of suddenly go into labor and not be ready at work. Plus I might need to stay home with DS next week anyway. I don't know how long HFMD is contagious...

I'll update more, when I'm finally done with work:yahoo:

Sorry to hear your DS is sick. Web sources are telling me HFMD is its most contageous for about a week, and it remains in the body for even longer. Viruses are like that.

Glad your appointment went well and you're GBS negative! Yay for being almost done with work!

As far as I know, I'm probably immune, but DS has been so whiny and he isn't really eating. We had a friend over last night and he stayed up too late after not taking a nap, so he kept waking up during the night. I stayed up to late too and I have felt horrible all day. Foggy and tired. I should go to bed early tonight, hopefully DS will so I can too.

I'm not sure what route to go next to get this little lady out. I have felt some pressure down low today, but haven't had any big contractions or anything.

Honestly, I think I am more nervous this time than I was with DS b/c I know what to expect, and that scares me a bit.
