I'm here! Thanks! I usually just lurk every day. I only get time to post at work and this site has been loading so slow that I don't really have the time to post now...plus I'm busy finishing up everything at work. I'll do a proper intro soon!

Thanks for the welcome everyone!! So, an intro...

I'm 28, DH is 33. We met when I was still in high school, right after I turned 18. We dated for 3 years and DH proposed two days before my 21st birthday, in front of my whole family, when we were out to dinner to celebrate my birthday. We got married 10 months later, got my first BFP 1 month after that and DS1, Logan, was born 2 days shy of 9 months after our wedding.

I never really took the time to look into birth options, I relied a lot on my mom. I ended up getting induced at 38 weeks 5 days (I had PUPPS and didn't want to put up with it any longer). There was pitocin, an epidural, AROM, an episiotomy, and a vacuum delivery after 12 hours of labor and 2 hours of pushing. DS was taken to the NICU because he was grunting (he was only there for an hour) and I was so exhausted that I didn't even care to see my baby, I just wanted to sleep. Sad

When I got pregnant with DS2, Joey, I knew that things didn't go so well last time and I definately didn't want to be induced, other than that, I still didn't really know what my options were. I went into labor on my own at 40 weeks 3 days, the morning that a snowstorm hit (DH plows snow so we knew it would happen lol). I got an epidural after 7 hours of labor when I was dialated to an 8, but only because I was scared of what was coming. Up until then, I was handling everything great, even playing some euchre in between contractions. They broke my water and things slowed down, so they gave me pitocin, DS decided to do some gymnastics and by the time he was ready to come out 3 hours later he had his hand up on his head and wasn't rotating right. I had another episiotomy and the ob helped him rotate and come out. So, after 10 hours of labor and 20 minutes pushing, with a compound presentation, I had a healthy little boy. This birth was definately better than my first but I still wasn't completely happy with it and knew there had to be a better way. So when I found out I was pregnant for the 3rd time, I was determined to make things better...that's when I found this board.

I lurked during my whole pregnancy with DD, Mikayla, and learned so much from you ladies. I read all the birth stories on here and they gave me so much hope that I could have the birth that I really wanted. Everyone thought I was crazy for wanting to do it naturally, but I told DH about everything I'd learned and he was behind me 100%. At 39 weeks 3 days my water broke, 30 minutes later contractions started, but were very irregular. When we got to the hospital 4 hours later, as soon as they hooked me up to the monitors my contractions started coming 2 minutes apart. They checked me and I was at 6-7 cm. I got an IV put in which I ended up ripping out (it wasn't in very good to start with), they moved me to labor and delivery and an hour later, after 3 hours of active labor (7.5 hours after my water broke) and 10 minutes of pushing, my DD was born, completely natural. I couldn't believe the high I was on...it was amazing. And I can't wait to do it again this time.

There are a couple things I want to do differently this time. I'm hoping that I can not have the IV and I will not allow them to keep me on the monitors like they did before. They did a 30 minute strip in triage and then they wanted a 20 minute strip in labor and delivery, which they never were able to get so they tried to keep the monitors on me during the entire delivery. Also, I did get another episiotomy, which I will make sure doesn't happen this time. Even though DH told them I didn't want it, they still asked me, and I was at the point where I just wanted the baby out and couldn't really think it through, so I have told DH to stand firm on that this next time.

We thought we were done after DD was born. DH made the call to schedule a vasectomy in December. It was scheduled for February and we got a BFP in January...it was meant to be. He still got the vasectomy done in February so this is defiinately our last one and I am trying to enjoy it as much as I possibly can.

At our 20 week ultrasound we found out that we are having another little boy and that he has 2 clubfeet. DH was born with spina bifida, which caused him to have clubfeet, so we were very scared that it was more than just clubfeet. We went to see a perinatologist and he was quite certain that our baby did not have spina bifida, which was a relief, but he suggested either doing an amniocentisis to verify that and to rule out any chromosomal abnormalities (most specifically trisomy 18) or do growth ultrasounds (because if he grows at a normal pace then he is most likely ok). We decided to do the amnio and everything came back perfect. Yahoo and we are 100% sure that he is a boy. Smile So, after he is born we are going to be driving an hour each way for weekly appointments to stretch and put casts on his legs for about 3 months and then he'll be in a brace all the time for a few more months and then in the brace while he sleeps until he is around 4 yo. My MIL has been a great support through all of this (she went through it all plus some with DH 33 years ago) and I am so thankful that she will be there to help us (she is retiring on sept 4th because she wants to be available to help out as much as possible).

Wow, that ended up being really long...sorry. I can't wait to get to know you all better and share the rest of this pregnancy with you!

Wow, sounds like your birth experiences got better each time, I hope this last one is the perfect natural birth you're hoping for! Glad the club feet are just that and nothing more, sounds like you have a good plan for getting them taken care of!

Thanks everyone!

I had my 37 week appointment yesterday. Everything is going well. Found out I'm GBS+ though. Sad This is the first time I've been positive. I was hoping to not have an IV but I'll deal with it. I'm so ready for this baby...the only thing I have left to do is to buy a couple new nursing bras, which I'm doing today during my lunch. DH still needs to paint the nursery too (it's pink right now) but he won't be in there for at least a month so no hurry on that.

I'm excited for this weekend. I took Tuesday off work for Logan's first day of school so it'll be a 4 day weekend. Yahoo DH and I are going out Sunday night too for our anniversary...Monday will be 7 years. We haven't gone out just the two of us since last December for work Christmas parties...I hope we can find something to talk about. LOL

I hope you have good week. I'm sure you will be able to come up with something to talk about:) I know that feeling though, it's so long between times that we go out it feels like we're alone FOREVER. We usually end up at the store picking up something for the kids on the way home.

I am ready for this baby. Last night I packed my hospital bag. The only thing I need to add is the camera and the video camera (the batteries are charging). We always get a little toy for the other kids from the new baby, so I got those all ready and wrapped up last night too. I'm finishing up a couple things at work today and then there won't be anything else here that I need to worry about. DH is painting the nursery this morning and tomorrow I'll finish getting that all organized.

The last thing that I need to do, and it's probably one of the most important things, is to figure out who can stay with the other kids when it's time. I've always had my mom and MIL in the delivery room with me and I'd really like both of them to be there this time too. If it happens during the day, my sister (who normally watches the kids while we are at work) will stay with them, even on the weekend. I just need someone for if things happen overnight...just don't know who, everyone will have to go to work. I told DH that we would just have to wait to go to the hospital until morning when we can take the kids to my sister's and if baby came before we made it there then I guess I would get my homebirth...he wasn't too thrilled with that idea. LOL

I also wanted to get some meals frozen but I'm not sure if there'll be time for that...we'll see. If I don't get around to it then I guess we'll just live on pb&j sandwiches, chicken nuggets and cereal for a while.

I've been feeling pretty good the last couple weeks too. It is such a difference from all my other pregnancies. Usually I'm completely miserable, physically and emotionally. This time, I have energy, even though I don't sleep well anymore, and I don't even feel close to being depressed. I had PPD really bad after my first and so with my second and third I went right on anitdepressants as soon as baby was born. Both of those times I knew it was coming, I was already feeling depressed before. But I don't feel like I will need it this time, which is a huge relief. With DD the meds affected her really bad and it caused us to stop bfing, which really didn't help with the PPD. So this time, since I'm feeling so good now, I'm not going to take any meds at first and hope that I don't end up needing them at all.

Ugh...DH just called. Our big freezer stopped working. We just filled it with a ton of meat, mostly hamburger, bacon and hams. He said it is 'bleeding' and it smells like something died. So much for freezing any meals, I won't have a place to store them now...but at least they weren't already done, we would have lost those too.

I am so sorry to hear about your freezer, how frustrating!! You sound like your doing really well and I'm so happy for you too, I know what ppd is like and wouldn't wish it on anyone. I hope your postpartum time is wonderful & ppd free!!

Something you might want to look into is CNE aka EmpowerPlus by Truehope, I have had very postive results from taking it and it's a natural supplement. I've nursed and been pg while taking it w/out any problems Smile

We haven't heard from you in a few days, sure hope your doing well!!

I'm still doing good. Weekends are so busy, I don't get much time to sit down at the computer. I spent Saturday getting the nursery decorated. It's all done...yay! Yesterday we spent the day at my mom's house...did a cookout and then went up to the park for the kids to play. It was a pretty nice long weekend.

I only seem to have allergy problems when I'm pregnant and they kicked in Sunday. I was pretty miserable last night but today they already seem to be better. I hate allergies.

So today is the 11th. I had a dream a couple days ago that he would come on the 11th, but in that same night I dreamed that it would be the 17th too. I feel weird today though...very uncomfortable. It's probably all in my head though.

I'm going to the chiro today which I am very much looking forward to. I've been having a bit of pain in my lower back so it'll be nice to get that taken care of.

You can go to their main website which is http://www.truehope.com and see if you can find it that way. A lot of chrio's, those who practice TCM & other alternative medicines will often carry it. The midwives in my area buy it so that might be another option. I'm sure if you were to call their 1-800 # they'd be able to help you out though. I have been using it off & on for almost 4yrs now & recomend it to anyone who I think might benefit from it Smile

I'm feeling so weird today...sharp pains in my way lower back, but not like contractions/back labor. They only last for a couple seconds. I've spent a lot of time in the bathroom this morning too and am just having a lot of weird feelings. I think I've lost some bits of my plug the last couple days too. I have a doc appointment this afternoon, I think I'll have them check me, so we'll see what they say.

So, I'm about 2 cm and my cervix is still "a bit long" (she didn't give me a number). But, the baby is really high, to the point that she had me get an u/s to make sure he is head down, which he is (thankfully). She guesses his weight in the high 8's, maybe the low 9's. My guess all along has been 9lbs 3oz but lately I've been thinking maybe not quite that big so I'm saying 8lbs 13oz...we'll see. Everything else looks good, bp was 120/72 and hr was 144.

We just got home from the hospital a couple hours ago. Ethan Wayne was born at 8:01am Sunday morning after 7 hours of labor. It was a perfect natural birth. We are both doing great! Here's a link to his newborn pics that were taken in the hospital...

Birth Story

I woke up from a weird dream…all I remember was I was having a very weird feeling and didn’t know what it was. When I woke up I realized I was still having the feeling so decided to go to the bathroom to see if I just had to go really bad. As I went to sit on the toilet the baby kicked right below my belly button and I felt the kick break my water. So as I’m sitting there letting the water leak out into the toilet I heard Tom moving around in bed. I wasn’t sure if he was actually awake and didn’t want to wake him if he wasn’t so I quietly called out to him. He answered, so I told him my water just broke. His response was “Really??”, in a tone that said he was hoping for some more sleep. The time was 1:10 am. I told him to just try to go back to sleep since contractions hadn’t started yet…of course neither one of us could. My first contraction came at 1:56 am and they were very irregular. We called FIL, he was staying with the kids, and then called my mom to let her know we were heading in. My mom and my MIL were going to be in the room too. The ride to the hospital wasn’t too bad, I only had 2 contractions. By the time we got checked in and hooked up to the monitors in triage it was 4:30 am and the contractions were still quite irregular, and some were strong and others were very mild. I was checked, and was dilated to 6, and almost completely effaced. They did the swab to make sure it was my water that broke, which it obviously was. And then I got an IV and antibiotics started at about 5:00 am. As soon as that was done we moved to labor and delivery. The nurse brought me a birth ball to sit on. I labored on the birth ball for a while, getting up to use the bathroom a couple different times. Since things were going well the doctor agreed to take the monitors off me. They only went back on one more time after that for about 15 minutes, and then once during pushing they used the dopplar to listen to the baby. I made one last trip to the bathroom and as I was going I all of a sudden had a lot of pressure, but not quite like the pushing feeling, so I got in bed and had the doctor check me. I was at 8 cm but the contractions were coming really hard and fast, so I just stayed in bed. A couple contractions later and I was pushing. I informed the doctor of this, her response was, “yup, I noticed”. She checked me again to make sure I was complete and I wasn’t. I was 9.5cm with just a lip of cervix in the front. I labored through a couple more contractions after that and then she checked again and still the lip in front, but I couldn’t stop the pushing at that point so they made me sit forward to try to put some extra pressure on that lip. It worked. Once I got the green light to really push, I couldn’t stop myself from pushing. He moved down and out so fast that he didn’t even have a cone head. He was placed on my belly and just stared at me, didn’t even cry, just had (as my mom put it) a very pleased look on his face. I did cry though, he was beautiful. Ethan Wayne was born at 8:01 am on September 20, 2009. He was 8 pounds 8 ounces and 20.5 inches long, with a 13.5 inch head. His apgars were 9 and 9. I did tear pretty bad, a second degree tear to the back, a small tear to the front and a tear on the inside on the side, but it’s all healed pretty well.

I had a wonderful nurse, Carol, help me, she knew what she was doing when it came to natural childbirth and was able to help me keep focused and in control. Her shift started at 7am so she came in right when things were really getting started. I didn’t hear it but Tom said that she was very excited when she found out we were having a natural childbirth and commented that “these are her favorite kind”.

We ended up staying in the hospital for 2 days. I was GBS+ and since I got the antibiotics only 3 hours before he was born (instead of the recommended 4 hours), and because Ethan’s WBC was elevated we decided to stay an extra day to monitor him. Things have been pretty crazy since we got home. Ethan has bilateral clubbed feet. They are easily correctable but we have to go once a week to get casts put on, and then he will be in a brace for quite a while. The first night with the casts on was really rough but he’s gotten used to them and he doesn’t even seem to notice them anymore. The older kids are doing wonderful with him. The boys will stop and talk to him when he’s awake and Mikayla likes to rub his belly while he’s sleeping and help change his diaper (and then she needs her diaper changed as soon as we’re done with him). Breastfeeding is going great, he has a VERY strong suck and has no problem opening up wide to get a good latch. I’ve been able to pump about once a day so already have a bit of BM in the fridge. DH has started giving him a bottle for his late evening feeding so I can get a bit more sleep and he hasn’t had any problem taking the bottle either.
