Welcome to your lodge! Fingers crossed for the test results!
Mara & Joel, 2009
Ok, I thought I'd do my intro post finally...
I'm Eileen and DH is Steven. We met online, but not with the intention of dating, in 2005. He's from South Africa and a former rugby player, and I played a little in college, and I knew a bunch of rugby players I was going to introduce him to if he wanted to play again. He never did start up again, but hey hey got me instead, lol. Our relationship went from 0-60 in about 2.5 seconds once we met in person, after chatting online for awhile. We moved in "temporarily" within a couple weeks of dating, but then I never moved out, lol. 13 months after dating we were on a trip to Hawaii and Steven proposed. We knew very quickly before that though that was what we wanted, but we were broke lol. We were engaged for a long time, he proposed Jan of 07, and we got married August of 08. We were hoping to give his family time to prepare and come to the wedding since they are all in South Africa still. My family lives about 500 miles away so while not too far, it's still a bit of distance. His grandmother and cousin were able to come, but not his parents or brother, so I still haven't met them. Before the wedding we were lucky enough for all of the fates to come together and allow us to buy a home. After the wedding we decided to expand our family and adopted a doggy, he's crazy, but we love him. Very energetic, but the cutest face ever. We were planning on waiting until mid 2010 to start trying to have a baby, obviously that didn't go as planned, lol.
Here we are a year ago on New Year's Eve not knowing what 09 and 10 would have in store for us.
And here is our doggy Linus!
This pregnancy is my first. I always thought I'd have trouble conceiving, but since I did without trying obviously I was wrong about that! I honestly think this was the best way for DH though, I don't know if he would have ever been "ready" to start trying. However he jumped on board pretty quickly and is super excited. He's done so much to help me out when I can't do things, and even refurnished furniture and did an amazing job painting the nursery.
I've had a relatively easy pregnancy with a little BP scare a couple weeks ago, but now it seems like everything is ok. I only had a week of feeling sick in the beginning. I gained about 20 pounds, but I'm a little bit overweight, so I'm right on track. A little heartburn here and there, sciatica pain when I overdo things, and now some insomnia, but everything else has been surprisingly smooth. Oh except that pesky GBS test came back positive.
I'm planning a Bradley Birth in a hospital, but they are very natural birth friendly. I have been seeing an OB during my care, but even if I wasn't going naturally I'd probably not have him at the delivery. I'm part of an HMO that has whichever OB is on call attend the birth. However they have Nurse Midwives in the L&D hospital which I have requested attend the birth. DH has done an amazing job going to all the classes and learning about my "hippie" birth wishes, lol. He's from a country which has a ridiculous 60% c-section rate, he and his brother were c-sec babies. That's all he knows. His step-sister is due the same time as me, and her last pregnancy was placenta previa, so VBAC isn't even part of the vocab back in SA so she's having a c-sec again. I REALLY DO NOT want a c-sec.
Today I'm feeling good except super tired, I did not sleep well last night. I guess it's practice for when the baby gets here.
Here I am at 36 weeks 0 days, tomorrow I'll be 37.
I enjoyed reading your intro. Congratulations on your first baby! I love the pic of the design on the nursery wall--so cute! Sorry to hear you tested GBS+. I'm glad to hear your hospital is natuarl birth friendly, though!
Your look so cute hun It was fun to read your intro, I giggle at you thinking you couldn't get prego easy....I've heard that one before from friends (yes, they got the same suprise as you). Your pup is very cute, can't wait to see what he thinks of being a big brother!
You should ask about the cohosh in the forum, I don't know who but people have used it.
I know I have a couple weeks from my due date, but I figured it wouldn't hurt to start some of the "labor inducers" because they won't really work unless you are ready anyway. I told DH about pineapple and he's sneaking it into every meal.
I've been having a few more BH's than I had been, but no other signs.
Beth: Glad you learned more about me here!
I've heard that pineapple has to be fresh and raw, not cooked/canned, to work--cooking it removes the enzyme in it that is supposed to be the culprit.
