Thought I would start one for you since its that time...
I'm so excited to be sharing this journey with you and can't wait to read all about it!
Welcome to your lodge!
Yea! I am so excited to have a lodge. Now to go work on an intro.
Sienna 11/2/05 Michael 1/11/09
I am Monica, 28, DH and I have been together almost 12 years, married for 5.5 of that. Our dd, Sienna, turned 3 about a month ago.
well, I guess i'll start my intro back when DH and I met. We were sophomores in high school and were just friends for a while but on New years eve our junior year we finally got together. After a crazy night, we ended up at my house ans I fell asleep on his lap as we were watching a movie. I knew pretty soon afterwards that he would be the one I would marry. And here it is almost 12 years later, that baby # 2 is due.
I always wanted to have children at a fairly young age (like my parents) and DH wanted to wait (like his parents). So sometime around 21 or 22 we decided to wait until about 25. Needless to say, we kinda forgot about that and after being on the pill for 7 years I was tired of it, so I went off, but we were not ready to have kids yet, so we were trying to avoid getting pregnant. 3 months later I was pregnant with dd. It took a little while to used to the idea, but shortly afterwards we were very excited. When we found out i was pregnant, we knew we were moving to Florida in a few months so I wasn't commited to anything in Phoenix, I just found an OB close to my house and went there. Right before we moved I started looking into places in Florida, and was getting really nervous, I do NOT do hospitals well at all. My mom spent most of the last year of her life in the hospital in ICU, and I get very faint whenever I am in hospitals. How was I going to have a baby in hospital??? From there I discovered a birth center, it was in Orlando which was about an hour and 20 minutes away from where we were. I went back and forth for weeks to decide if it was too far. I am so glad I decided it wasn't. After we moved I scheduled an orientation and even then almost didn't go because of the distance but dh convinced me to go. The mw explained what made them different than going to the hospital, and dh was on board so we started going there. From there I started looking into natural childbirth and discovered Hypnobabies. Before getting pregnant I remember watching a story on tv about couples using hypnosis for childbirth and dh saying that seems really neat, I think you should do that when we have kids, and I remember laughing at him, saying give me the drugs! It turned out the last thing I wanted was drugs.
Anyway, dd's pregnancy was very uneventful. I did have some issues with my iron levels, but i managed to bring them up. I knew I was going to go late with her since I was born 3 weeks overdue. so no surprise my EDD came and went. At 41 weeks they sent me for an u/s to check my fluids levels which were "borderline" and scheduled me another appt for 3 days later. The morning of my appt, I also had a mw appt, which we discussed natural induction techniques. From there she got us in to an accupuncturist. After that we went out and bought some herbs and castor oil that I was going to start taking when we got home. But we had our u/s first and it turned out my fluid was low so I needed to go to the hospital. Needless to say I was devasted! My mw told me to eat before I go and she would meet us ther in a few hours. I instantly started bawling, and couldn't eat I was too upset. After a while I calmed down enough and dh and I went to get smoothies. After that we headed to the hospital, and I wasn't sure how I was going to do. But I was ok, we got checked in around 4pm or so and my mw came up with the student mw around 5. They inserted a foley cathater around 5:30 witha low dose of pit and stayed and chatted til about 7. My midwife said she thought it would fall out the next morning and that is when she planned on coming back to check on me, and to get rest, etc, etc. So DH and I just watched tv for a while, then I started getting hungry, he snuck me some fruit loops from the vending machine and they were awesome. We were super excited to see that the SUNS basketball game was on that night, it started around 10 and at that point I was still very comfortable, not really feeling contrax. Around midnight,I went to the bathroom and the foley cathater fell out. I thought maybe it was in wrong but we called the nurse and I was 3, almost 4 cm dilated, so of course then they turn up the pit, and the contrax were getting worse, but were still bareable. The game unded up going into triple overtime, and by the time it was over I was happy because I really needed to start using my hypnobabies. So I sat in the rocking chair and listened to the birth cd, after that DH put on a relaxation music cd we had bought and I just sat in the chair and rocked, at this point it was about 3am. I did that for the next couple hours and the contrax were getting more and more intense. Finally about 5:30 am or so the nurse comes in to check on me. I hadn't seen a nurse in awhile because they all thought I was sleeping. She checked me and I was 5 cm, I was pretty dissapointed, I felt like I was at least 7 or so. Then I asked her what my options were for pain relief, and she explained them, but DH reminded me that I didn't want that, and the nurse suggested I sit on the birth ball for a while. I had no idea they had them there other wise I would have been sitting on that the hole time. Anyway, someone called my mw at that point after dh asked them too and I was told she was on her way. The ball felt great and very shortly afterwards I started to feel a little pushy, but thought it was too soo to start feeling that. I went to the bathroom after that and the pushy feeling was getting worse but I didn't really say anything. About 6:30 my mw got there and checked me and I was 9.5 and pretty much ready to start pushing. From there i don't really remember much, I remmeber having a hard time figuring out how she was asking me to push, and moving onto my side, but my body completely took over and at 6:51 am dd was born. She was put right on chest and stayed there for about an hour. Everything is pretty much a blur now, but it was very exciting. She weighed 6lbs 11oz and was perfect. She nursed shortly afterwards and we ended up leaving the hospital around 7:30 that night. all in all it wasn't a bad experience and as far as hospital births go I think it was pretty good, but I wanted something different this time around.
After 6 months of convincing dh it was time to have another, I got my IUD removed and 7 weeks later I found out I was pregnant, I couldn't believe it only took one try. I was so excited. Before TTC I began researching homebirths since the only birth center in PHoenix closed lasy year and I didn't want to go to the hospital. A couple days after I found out I called one mw and set up a consultation. Well, a day later I was at work and started bleeding pretty heavily. I was 5 weeks and assumed I was miscarrying, I sent the mw an email saying I miscarried and would need to cancel the appt. she was so sweet and sent me all this info and called to see if i needed anything. A few days later I still felt pregnant and decided to go to the OB, I was still preggo at that point but they weren't very optimistic. I went for an u/s and everything looked good, I had a large subchorionic bleed, but baby was good. At 8+ weeks I resceduled my consult with the mw and went and talked to her. She was very nice, but I was going to interview a couple more. Well, that night I woke up and bleeding super heavy again. I went to the OB again and had another u/s and they saw that my placenta was completly covering my cervix. I was so bummed. My mw said I should be under the care of an OB at that point. I decided to change OB's to go with one more natural minded and a few weeks later had my 18 u/s. At that my placenta was just low lying, yeah! So I called the mw back and asked if she still had space for my due date, which she did. I was super excited. I felt like she had been through a lot with me already, so I decided to just go with her. So I have been going to her for a while nowand stopped seeing the OB at 30 weeks.
I had my homevisit with the mw on Monday, and all her stuff is here, so I am ready to go. In AZ you can have a homebirth at 36 weeks, so anytime
now I can have this baby. I am very excited to meet him/her. I look forward to sharing my journey with you and wish I would have known this board was here when I had dd. Hopefully I covered everything, I didn't think it would be this long, so kudos to you if you made it through.

Welcome to your lodge! I look forward to following your HB story, it sounds like your all set to go how very exciteing
Welcome to your lodge Monica! I am still in shock that there are mamas from our birth board with lodges already. I enjoyed your intro, it was nice to have a little background and hear Sienna's birth story. I look forward to reading the story for this baby too!
Yesterday was kinda rough, I felt awful all day. I think I am trying to do too much but there are things that need to be done, and I can't really wait, YKWIM. I am feeling better so far, but I was up really early, couldn't sleep anymore.
We did out test run of the birth pool, and it went ok, glad we did it. We will need to turn our hot water heater up some and I think we can fill it in one shot, and it should only take about 20 minutes or so to fill it. So that's good. I also cleared the space and it fits in our bedroom which is just where I wanted it. DD asked me yesterday if she could go swimmimg in the birth pool again, and got really upset when I told her no, that we weren't using it until the baby is ready to be born. Also trying to explain that she probably won't be allowed in there when the baby is coming didn't go over very well.
My mw also called me on Wed. and said my iron levels were low, 9.9 and 29.4. I need to bring them up to at least a 10.1 or I risk out of homebirth. I am taking some stuff called Floradix now that she says really works. I hope so, I guess she'll be checking at my next appt. on Monday, so hopefully it will be better by then. I really don't want to risk out.
