Alright, I'll try to make this as short as possible. No promises....
I met my DH, Micheal, at a party when I was 16. He was 21. We hit it off right away and talked all night. From there it was puppy love at first sight. He is so sweet and compassionate, has a special bond with animals (we say that sick and injured animals are drawn to him. He's probably rescued about 30 animals this past year, from lost baby ducks, drying out frogs, highway turtles, and lost puppies. We have some crazy stories about his animal friends). He is also an amazing father to his 11 year old daughter, Paige, and has been amazing with me and my whiney pregnancy demands. We dated for about 5 years before we got married on August 28, 2004. It was a beautiful outdoor wedding with a small orchestra. His daughter Paige, was our flower girl and my nephew, Aiden, was the ring bearer.
We bought our house almost a year after we were married and decided to TTC for #1. We did it real casual, we were pretty clueless and my dr was no help, just told us to "have fun". No temping, no OPK's, just having sex every other day to "conserve his sperm". When almost a year past and no luck, I went to see my dr. I've had very irregular periods since HS, only menstruating maybe every other month or so, which is probably why it took so long to see the dr. After several tests, she diagnosed me with PCOS, told me the best option was to go on BCP to help regulate my cycles and that if I ever wanted to become pregnant, I would need "help" from her. So, feeling pretty much bummed but kinda ready for a break, I went on the pills and stayed on them for almost another year before I was fed up with all prescriptions and decided to take myself off any drugs I was on.
During this time me and DH got some wild idea that it would be fun to open our own business. He was working as a Chrysler mechanic and I was a graphic designer at a sign shop. We both felt like we were at dead end jobs and wanted something more out of our career lives. I'd been exercising at a local gym that had ROM machines, which is the 4-minute workout. We became good friends with the owners and kicked around the idea of opening our own fitness center. DH has always been into fitness and I loved the machines and the idea of owning a business. We talked to my parents about our idea and they were willing to help us start out. So, in February of 2007, we opened Fast Fitness Center. It has been a lot of fun but a real struggle. Thankfully my parents have been a major support for us and really believe in our dream.
So, being involved in our current business has introduced us to some amazing people in natural health. After deciding to do away with prescription drugs, I decided to go see an Herbalist that specialized in Iridology. She put me on several herbs to help me regulate my cycle and help with the cysts on my ovarys. I took them for several months with great luck and decided I wanted to prepare my body to have children. Now, I still believed my dr that I would need medical help to get pregnant but I wanted to get my body healthy and prepared naturally. So, I started to eat really healthy and began using NFP to track my ovulation. Well, to my surprise, I was actually ovulating!! We used NFP as a natural BC while I continued my herbs and diet. Eventually, forgetting to temp and follow the NFP, but still not officially TTC.
This past November, I was trying to figure when I should be expecting my period. I hadn't had it in a while and they were fairly regular, just long cycles. I figured I should've started so for the heck of it, I bought an HPT. DH made me promise not to take it until he got home. Just incase it was the one, he wanted that memory. Well, when he got home, I peed on it and.... it was negative. The next morning I took the second one and another negative. We were both really disappointed. Although we weren't "officially" TTC, we actually really thought this was going to be it. Well, the next weekend I still hadn't started so I decided to go ahead and take another one, just incase. Negative. So by this time we were sure that it was my cycles acting up again and figured I just needed to wait it out until it did start. So the next weekend when still no AF, I didn't take a test. But when the next weekend came, on a Sunday, I got up and told DH that I was going to test again, just one last time to make absolutely sure. He was like whatever and went back to sleep. I went to the bathroom, peed on the stick and went back to bed. After the recommended time, I snuck back to the bathroom and covered the test with a towel so I couldn't see it and brought it back to the bedroom. I told DH to look with me and uncovered the towel. And it was 2 blaring pink lines!!! Our BFP was there!!! We stared at it, stared at eachother, just couldn't believe it. After 3 years, there was just no way. So I took a 2nd test with my 2nd morning urine. Another blaring positive. 3rd test? Positive. 4th test? Positive!! We went around all day saying, I can't believe we are having a baby! Both of us couldn't stop smiling and saying that. We decided the next day, I would stay home and go to the dr. Just to get that 2nd opinion. So, the next day it was confirmed, I was indeed pregnant. We told our parents that night and both just couldn't believe it, they were extatic!!
I started going to my regular Rx happy doc for my prenatal care and introduced myself on the August 08 boards. Eventually, her old ways and my new beliefs started butting heads. I wanted a natural childbirth, she was uncomfortable with it. So I started lurking on the BN boards and did a lot of research and started making a birth plan. Her discomfort was causing us great anxiety so I started researching other options. That's when we decided to look into the Birthing Center that was 40 miles from our home and 80 miles from our business. We fell in love with it. So layed back, warm, welcoming. Looked just like a bed and breakfast. The 2 midwives there are amazing. Take the time to answer your questions, everything on our birth plan, they do routinely, let you decide what is best for you and the baby. It is the exact birth we dreamed of. Now I am actually excited about giving birth instead of terrified that I might not make it without the drugs. We have taken Bradley Birth classes and feel really prepared. Now, I just need to feel prepared to care for the little baby that results from the birth!!!
So far I have had an uneventful pregnancy. Everything has gone well. No real health problems or major discomforts. Just the back, hip and foot pain. It's still hard to believe I'm actually going to have a baby.
Ok, I'll stop there. Whew, hope that wasn't too long. I'll post some pics and stuff too. I'm so excited to have this lodge!!
What a great story! I'm into the health and wellness lifestyle and products and got my own business because of it, too!
I loved your story and am soooo happy for you and your husband - a new baby!! Wonderful! I'm super glad that you didn't need medical intervention and that you want a natural childbirth, AND that you found just the birth center and midwifes for you!!
