I'm a weirdo....I did not like babywearing at all. It was so uncomfortable. I am hoping it was the carriers I had last time. I consigned my mei tai and my sling and am trying the Ergo and Moby this time. I really wanted to like it. I found myself loving the bucket/stroller thing when out in public, especially restaurants. They have these contraptions that hold the bucket next to your table and baby will just sleep in it so you can enjoy your meal. I also loved shopping with the bucket/stroller b/c I could try stuff on.
At home, I really wanted to use the carriers though. I'm getting rid of the stroller portion of my travel system though, so I will be forced into giving wearing another try.
Well hey! I think I will make a few more for expectant friends and get my technique down a little better, but it does seem like a great way to make a little extra money (especially on order)...I really enjoy doing it! I want to make the mei tais all out of reclaimed fabric (DH's is 100% recycled, although the one I made myself was mostly Jo Ann's...the ties are from old curtains we had lying around, though!) The Mobys are organic jersey I bought--needed too many yards for that.
Kristen, I hope it was your carriers too. I have heard SUCH rave reviews about the Moby from so many different people, I'm really hopeful I will love it as much as everyone else does. That's one reason I'm stocking up, though--I want to make sure we have lots of options until we know what works best for both us and baby.
I am so excited to go home and set up the crib and stuff...I can't concentrate on work at all! Nesting
My goodness- between everything else (nursing, etc) it's taken me all day to get caught up on your lodge! I'm so late in welcoming you to it!
I love my carriers too... I just got a Maya Tie last week (bought from Christy's shop for a great price!) and I LOVE it. Your mei tai is SUPER cute! I was prepared to love, love, love my Moby, but unfortunately, I have only used it once and never again because it was SO HOT that one time I used it, and that was in the spring when it was still cool out! I'm bummed...but, when we go back to Angola in August it will be spring there, and the coolest it ever gets there, so maybe I will be able to use it then. We'll see. Sorry...that was a lot about me in your lodge!
Also, I love Bill Bryson too!

No worries, I love hearing about other people's experiences!! The heat factor is my biggest concern with the Moby too, and why I wanted some options. I'm thinking we'll probably like it more once things cool down in the winter, but for our crazy-hot summers, it seems like an awful lot of fabric!
Man, I'm feeling lots of crampiness and contractions today! Baby is definitely low, but I can't tell at ALL how she's lying. Sometimes I swear I have an octopus with three heads in there.
DH and I never bought a stroller either. He LOVES his ring slongs and insist we make one for every one of our friends who has a baby! I think the slings are great too, but I really love the Mei Tai for under 2 months, and after bout 10 months. In between, my 2 kids hated them because thye couldn't see where they were going and both would be miserable unless they had a good vantage point to see everything going on.
DH still prefers the ring sling. DD likes the Mei Tai, but only if I keep moving. If I stop walking she gets VERY antsy and wants out.
A friend offered a Maya wrap, but I've never used it. I get hot very easily, especially in my core, so I think it would just be terrible.
I love your wraps!

Ok sorry to hijack your lodge...
Your carriers really are cute. I have tried to sell some stuff at etsy(birthday inviations etc) with no luck. It is kind of saturated over there I think. We have a stroller, but my kids hardly ever use it. Mostly we push it around with our stuff in it. LOL I even wear my 3 year old. It is much easier to keep her reigned in that way.
I hear you on the octopus comment. LOL I sear my son was doing kung fu in there. LOL
We were at our favorite brewery last weekend and there was a dad there with a maybe one year old in a ring sling, playing shuffleboard with his buddy. My DH was ENTRANCED and went over eventually to tell him how awesome his sling was I'm gonna have to make some of those too.
So crib is not quite set up yet--I had kind of a frustrating night because the past two days DH has been not only moving all of our furniture around for the carpet cleaning/trying to put together the crib at the same time but also moving out of his classroom (he got a different job for the fall and a lot of the furniture in his old classroom was ours so it was several truckloads of moving)...so understandably, by the time we got the living room put back together and the big heavy stuff back in the bedroom with help, he was DONE. It was like eight o'clock and all he wanted to do was eat dinner and watch a couple of episodes of our current tv show (we don't have regular tv but we watch series on Netflix) and go to bed at that point. Understandably, poor guy! But I, on the other hand, had been looking forward all day to having the crib set up, and was feeling super nesty and antsy and unsatisfied with a half-finished house, and sitting in front of the tv was making me crazy! But he couldn't watch the show without me and had just finished the book he was reading, and while I was feeling super hopped up I completely understood why he just wanted to veg...we were just at totally different places in the day/energy level. I was proud of us both for being pretty reasonable about it and not getting into a fight, though. We ended up watching the show and putting off finishing the house until today, but as a compromise we folded all of the laundry while we watched. Compromise is good.
Today he's going to finish putting the crib together but wait for me to put in all the bedding and stuff. Today I also have my huge all-afternoon meeting to talk with my coworkers about all the various jobs that will need to be covered while I'm on leave/part time after that. If it's true that getting major road blocks accomplished can help encourage baby to decide to come, then today is a big step in the right direction! (I don't really think she'll come this early, but it definitely feels good to be getting closer to "anytime would be fine" rather than still worrying over a laundry list of big stuff!)
I made my ring sling. I got my pattern online from maya wrap. Of course this was years ago. I don't know if they have them, but I am sure you can find something. I am not talented at all either. LOL
Sorry you are feeling antsy. I know how that feels. Compromise is good though and working together is always good. Way to go.
I love baby wearing too. I had DS July 08 and wore him in a moby a lot when he was little. He loved it! I prefer wraps when they are very little. I got another wrap for this one so I have a few to switch back and forth. I like ring slings and structured carriers like the Ergo when baby is a bit bigger but that's just my personal opinion. You mentioned being hot with the Moby as a concern. We live where it is very humid in July and it was fine in the air conditioning. I also used it in the evenings if I took the baby out and about outside. We did fine. He would fall asleep instantly in the Moby. I hope it works out for you too.
I'm going through the same nesting you are! It's crazy....especially when you have a list in your mind or rather expectations of what you want done and it doesn't all get finished as you hoped. Too bad we can't do more ourselves these days! I'd move all the furniture around the house myself! DH was also nice enough to do the carpet shampooing after I did a deep vacuum recently. I hope you get your crib up and ready, so you have some peace of mind. We have so much left to do here too.
Do you plan on cosleeping at all? If you don't have the crib up and ready right away it might not matter if you plan on doing that. With DS we had everything ready and well he's almost 2 and never used his crib at all maybe once.
