    OK...a little about me!

I guess we will start w/DH and I. I met Doug right before leaving for college and he ended up driving 2 hours for a first date (should have known then what I had ). We continued dating and he ended up moving to my college town a few months later. Fast forward and we dated for 5 1/2 years before finally getting married 1 week after my college graduation. We grew in basically the same town and college was in Knoxville, TN and by that point both us were very tired of living in the south (and small towns), so we made the leap to move to Boston, MA after Doug has visited a friend there. We ended up living in Boston for 6 years, mostly just working/hanging out/surviving.

I had known I had always wanted kids (my goal was by the time I was 30), but Doug was a little more unsure. I also had that biological clock thing going on, especially since it seemed everyone at work was getting pregnant! Backtrack a bit to the fact that 4 years earlier I had been diagnosed with PCOS and had been managing that with Metformin successfully. We finally started trying in June of 2004 and trying and trying. Months passed with no success (I had started temping, but that was the extent). We are fairly certain that I miscarried very early term (3-4 weeks) in November of 2004, as I had a missed period (with the Met, I was pretty regular and def every month) and passed a large clot in the toilet that looked suspicious. Add to that I didn't get another period until we eventually wound up pregnant again a few months later. Because of my past and the history, we were scheduled to begin the fertility testing, etc. in March. I ended up asking for another round of Progesterone in early February to kick start my now missing period and wouldn't you know it, would up pregnant that month!

I had a fairly uneventful pregnancy, lots of MS in the beginning and was fairly miserable towards the end, but no major issues. I didn't know of any OB's or anything about midwifes, so I randomly chose an OB practice. They had a midwife partnership and after meeting the midwife, I decided I wanted to stick with her instead of the OB. Throughout the course of my pregnancy, I did what was "normal" for pregnant women and didn't learn about risks or anything else. I had decided after watching my mw on video with a natural birth that I didn't want the epidural. I had an bad experience with a spinal tap a few years earlier that I didn't want to repeat. It wasn't until my 38th week visit (on a Fri) that my BP went up (still don't know the readings), so my mw ended up pulling me from work and putting me on bedrest. It was a very stressful time at work and I had a VP who needed things finished before I went out, so I worked over the weekend. On my follow-up on Mon, BP still up, so the mw decided to send me in that afternoon for an induction. Of course, being as miserable as I was I whole-heartedly agreed! I mean I was going to have my baby that day, right?

I picked up Doug, we went home and packed up and headed to the hospital around 2 PM. They began with a round of cervadil (maybe two that day) and sent us home for the night. We returned at 6 AM on Tue morning and I endured more Cervadil, Cytotec and eventually Pitocin. I had planned this natural birth and to begin with was showering, walking, sitting on the ball, etc. to deal until they kept having trouble monitoring the baby, so they had me in the bed on my back. Well that did me in (Ian ended up being posterior) and by 2 cm I had an epidural (again, it took multiple tries). I believe that ended up being sometime after dinner, because I do remember having something to eat before then. From there of course everything just went downhill...couldn't monitor so ended up with a fetal scalp monitor (2 tries), broken waters, etc. Finally, on Wed around 5 PM, the OB came by to say I was stuck at 8 1/2 cm (I have no idea how long that had been) and that we were going in for the c-section. I remember crying when I heard that. Well, off we went to the OR and I remember throwing up that horrible med they give you...then hyperventilating under the oxygen mask...I also remember feeling more than I thought I should have when they took him out...I remember hearing it's a boy...I remember quickly seeing him...and then that was it. Evidently, they knocked me out after that as I don't remember anything else until being back in my room. My friend that was there told me that the OB stopped by and told me "I'm so sorry you felt that...you shouldn't have felt that". End result was we had a 9 lb 2 oz baby boy, Ian at 6 PM on Wednesday, Nov 5, 2005.

A couple of days after having Ian, we decided to move to St Petersburg, FL (we had visited distant relatives a couple of times in the prior years for vacation), as the cold and COL was getting to us. So by the time Ian was 5 months, we had moved to sunny FL and have loved it ever since!

I'll post more later with regards to our journey with this second child!
