My dd is the same way! I have no idea where she gets it from. She could careless about getting toys for presents, she'd much rather get shoes, purses, and clothes!

Thanks for all your comments ....I was wondering how I managed to have a girl who was fascinated by clothes, shoes, hats, beads etc and I am glad others have the same fun....it's even worse since DD has been able to open her wardrobe and drawers and pull out the clothes she wants to wear! The problem is made worse by my two sisters (who do not have children yet!) who love nothing more than sending their only niece pretty clothes....

I still have moments when I forget what the weather will be like in each month! After 25 years of living in the northern hemisphere and (only) 5 in the southern, I have trouble getting my head around the fact that July = Cold and January = Hot!

So, preparations for Homebirth are going well...I think everything is under control!

I made DH set up the birth pool this weekend and I am really glad I did....we just needed to check for leaks, how long it would take to fill, whether we had enough hot water etc and I thought it would just be a fairly straightforward procedure. While doing this I found out that he was expecting to place the pool in the middle of the living room so that everyone could sit around (in the comfortable chairs) and watch me!! Ummmm no!

After I explained (very rationally I thought) that actually the thought of labouring with people staring at me from all angles was not my idea of a relaxing and private event, he reluctantly cleared the dining room and we now have a space set aside so that I can do my own thing but still have people nearby when needed. I had no idea that he thought that I would want everyone right next to me, despite the fact that this was the opposite to what I wanted last time.....I guess that's why it is important to have a trial run!

Other things we discovered during the practice set up (these were things that I was aware of, but DH, being male, needed to find out himself) :
The pool cannot be inflated in the bedroom because then you can't fit it through the doors to move to the dining room
You cannot attach the hose to the taps using sticky tape
Your wife will not be happy if you insist on having the birth pool in the living room because you can then watch TV/DVDs through the "boring bits"
DD will NOT be present during the birth as she spent all the time trying to climb in the pool, jumping, blowing bubbles and pointing out all the fish (her new favourite word) on the sides of the pool (yes, my 'birth' pool has cartoon fish, crabs, octopus on the sides!!)

I feel a lot more relaxed about the process now....the pool is inflated (and stored away from the cat) so the actual set up should only be around 30 minutes when required. In the end it was quite a fun process and we ended up having a good laugh about everything! We then all (DD, DH and myself) had a splash around in the pool for an hour or so and I think it will be really useful when I will be in labour! I am kind of looking forward to using it!

at least you were able to work out the bugs. And I don't blame you for not wanting to labor with an audience, I wouldn't want to either.

Sounds like it was a very good thing to do the trial run--you learned a lot of things you probably want to know before you're in labor!

Wow, things have been moving fast on this board!

Everything still ticking along here! Just enjoying the last few days of pregnancy....doing my Hypnobabies practise and spending time with DD! I would thoroughly recommend having some time off to just relax....

For some reason I have got it into my head that I have only got one weekend left before my baby arrives, not sure why? I know I will be going "overdue" but somehow I also think that I will have the baby sometime over next week or on the actual weekend? I guess we'll see....

I have a midwife appointment later today (I think, she called last night to say that she had another mum in labour so I guess it depends on what happened overnight) so will update later....
