Yay!!!!! Thank you for the warm welcomes!!!

    Here's my intro:

I am 29 years old and I live in MD in the woods on 3 acres. This property has been my sanctuary during the time we have lived here. We do not live in a rural area, so going home is like "getting away" which has been really nice. We have 2 dogs a Pomeranian and a Boston terrier.

I met DH Troy (32) through a mutual friend in college. My good friend and DH were in a band together. I hadn't seen the friend's band in quite a few years, so we got together and met up. From that point on we were pretty much inseparable. We moved in together 6 mos. into our relationship and got married after dating for 2 years. During the time we were dating I finished up grad school and started teaching special education. I taught a variety of different grades, switched to general education and taught 3rd grade for awhile before making the switch to teach public pre-kindergarten (4 and 5 year olds). It took me a bit to find my niche, but I love the little ones. I teach in a school that is all low-income families and a wide variety of cultures many hispanic, but also children from the middle east/asia. Since I am working with such young children I see such love for learning and enthusiasm which is why I do what I do.

A few years ago DH and I made the decision to start a family, so I began charting BBT and 3 mos. later got a blaring positive on October 31, 2007. We were so excited about creating this new life. On Valentines day 2008 we found out DS was a boy!

During my pregnancy I did a lot of reading about natural childbirth. I wanted a home birth but the best I could convince DH of was a birth center birth. So a birth center birth was the plan. My water broke around 6 a.m. July 7, 2008. Things didn't really get started until 4 p.m. at which time we headed over to the birth center. I unfortunately was greeted with a MW I had never met before who was younger than me and a negative Nancy. I asked for no cervical checks, but I was told that I had to have one to stay. I agreed, but told her I didn't want to know anything. She frowned and told me anyway in disapproval. Right off the bat a negative tone was set and I didn't feel comfortable there, which is why I believe I had trouble progressing and opening up. DS was posterior as well. Around 4 a.m. July 8, 2008 the midwife suggested hospital transfer due to "dysfunctional labor". I guess since my water broke the morning before and I was GBS positive they were concerned about letting me go longer at the birthing center. We agreed to transfer. At this point I was exhausted. They gave me an epidural and pitocin when we arrived. They also came in and threatened a c-section if things didn't move along. Finally, I was fully dialated and started pushing. I pushed for 2 hours and DS was born 7/8/2008 at 2:16 p.m. 7 lbs. 11 oz. 20 inches long. Before we left the hospital I told DH that our next baby would be born at home.

Daemon was a wonderful baby. We did have some nursing struggles in the beginning, but got the hang of things. He nursed until he was 19 1/2 mos. When he was around 15 mos. I got pregnant again! I didn't know if I'd be able to because I was still nursing him and my period had only just come back I think the month before or 2 mos. before. I think DS would have gone much longer if my supply didn't drop due to pregnancy hormones. In fact he still asks to nurse. Maybe he will go back to it once this LO arrives.

We were very excited to start this journey all over again! We found out in February we are having another baby boy! My motherly intuition was WAY off! I felt I was going to have a girl for sure. All of the old wives tales pointed to girl too. I think the boys will be very close growing up. I am excited for them to have each other.

In the winter I started doing Hypnobabies and I found a wonderful doula, whom we ended up hiring as our birthing assistant. She is in training to be a MW herself and has had lots of experiences. She spent most of the winter in Africa to act as MW in a clinic. Hearing her stories has been inspiring and eye opening about how women birth babies, especially in countries where the nearest hospital is 6 hours away and you have to pay $20,000 for an ambulance to drive you there, so everyone high-risk or not births in this clinic with MWs. Pretty amazing....She also just came back from the farm. She is so passionate about what she does. I am excited to have her part of my birth team. Shortly after meeting her she introduced us to the home birth midwife we are going to use. She lives about 20-30 minutes from my house and is very comfortable to be around. I am so excited about this birth. I feel comfortable knowing I have people I trust whom I know will be the ones present during my birthing time. I also feel confident in my body and I feel ready for this birth.

Sounds like you are on the path to a wonderful second birth. I really hope this one works out just as you are planning it! Jealous of your secluded woods

Have you always lived in MD? It's where I grew up. Where did you go to HS? What district do you teach in?

    Sorry for all the questions.

Anyway, I'm sure you will get a better outcome this time. That really sucks about the MW. Not really the attitude you would expect.

Sounds like things are setting up for a great birth with wonderful support! It will be great to have the two boys close in age. It has been very fun to see my boys play together, although they are very different in temperament. We wish we had woods and space for dogs. Sounds great!!! I am looking forward to reading all about your birthing journey.

I'm sorry your first birth didn't go as you would have liked, but it sounds like you have a great support group for this time. Your doula sounds amazing.

At the moment very sore! I fell down the stairs again last night. This is the 2nd time this pregnancy. Although I bumped down half the flight of stairs luckily I fell almost hands and knees at the bottom of the steps. I wasn't carrying anything I was just going too fast. So I scraped/bruised up my left arm and shoulder. My tailbone is sore and I think I broke two toes on my right foot. Baby has been moving normally ever since, so I am not worried about him at all.

On the positive front I got my GBS status back..........drum roll........it's Negative this time!!! Woot Woot! I'm so happy I don't have to deal with that this time

Well, off to work. Hopefully I can "take it easy" today. It's my last day with the full class all day, since tomorrow is promotion and half of them will leave early.

Oh no to falling down the stairs, I hope your toes are ok. Ouch.
I'm so sorry you had to deal with a negative MW during your 1st delivery. Sounds like you have an amazing birth team this time and will experience the birth that you want. That birthing assisstand sounds amazing! I have to say I'm envious of your 3 wooded acres. Are you done teaching after tomorrow and are you going to teach this fall? I teach about the same age group, Kinder, and totally love it. My favorite age by far.
