Congrats and welcome to your lodge! How interesting that you're planning this birth to be so different from your other two. That is cool about breeding reptiles, do you still have them?

Shortly after we got our BFP, we sold off 90% of our business. We kept a few high end snakes -I think we're down to only having 10 right now. It was a lot of work, taking care of 100s of animals, and I was pregnant. Doc didn't think I should handle the animals, especially the rodents and bugs. So that left a lot on Dh's shoulders, we decided it was best to sell everything. Besides we needed to convert a lizard room into a nursery!

My pregnancy with DD started uneventful. I had zero morning sickness or really any symptoms. At my 10 week appointment, doc did a sonogram and discovered TWINS! I was excited and horrified at the same time! Here is was -a 90lb twig, and I'm supposed to grow 2 babies?? Well at our next appointment, we discovered that one of the babies didn't make it. It just disappeared. I never had any bleeding or anything like that, but I guess its actually quite common.

At 6 months I started having contractions. Doc put me on brethine and I was told to rest as much as possible. At 36w,5d I was induced because my doc was concerned that I had been having tons of contractions and not dilating...
I wish I knew then what I know now. I was made to feel like that was not normal. You aren't supposed to have contractions -at all- until its time for baby to come out. I spent 49 hours in labor because neither my body nor baby were ready to deliver.
At 37w, I delivered a perfectly tiny baby girl -5lb,5oz! She did not do well with breastfeeding and the nurses pretty much forced me to give her formula. Unfortunately, we were not able to breastfeeding for longer than 2 weeks -supplementing with formula and pumped milk.

I am sorry about the twins and the bfing. And I can't believe your doc induced you that early. Your pics are amazing though!
What a neat intro so far. Can't wait to read the rest. How cool about your business (although it skeeves me out lol). I also can't beleive they induced that early. This birth will be quite different for you. :)
great pix and great story - yes - so different this time! Can't wait to read more! How are you doing??
Loved reading your intro so far! Sounds like this birth is already headed in a completely different direction. Yay!
With DD I really felt like my doctor knew what was best for me -afterall she went to school for years and has delivered 1000s of babies... So I trusted her to do what was right. When she said induction -I was onboard because I thought that was going to be best -and besides I was happy to meet my baby!
When DD was about 3 months old, I got pregnant and miscarried. I was getting blood drawn every other day, to keep an eye on my beta levels. Well interesting to note that my levels went down down down, then back up! I was pregnant AGAIN, without a period in between! And this time, my little bean stuck.
Pretty much the same story as my first. No morning sickness or really any symptoms at all. I was relieved when the U/s showed only one baby this time! At about 5 or 6 months, I started having contractions and put back on the brethine -I absolutely HATED taking it. It made me so shakey, jittery, and tired.
At 37w,3d I went into labor (on my own!). I started having good contractions very early in the morning, about 3am. After I tried everything to get back to sleep, I rolled over and woke Dh up -not to go to the hospital, but for some last minute lovins! ;)
About an hour later, my contractions really picked up and were 1-2 minutes apart. I called my doctor, but was not able to get ahold of her AT ALL! My mom came over to watch DD and we (Dh and I) went to the hospital at about 7am.
Got to the hospital and was 4cm! Yes!! Went straight for the epidural. Then I laid in the bed and waited for the nurses to contact my doctor. No one was able to find her -for hours. My contractions fizzled out (in hindsight probably because of the stress of not knowing where my doctor was -or maybe the epidural). Still no doctor and the nurses had no idea what to do with me. They finally decided to give me pitocin around 5pm. I dilated quick, they broke my water, and I delivered at 8:48pm -delivered with a doctor I had never met before. Turns out my doctor was in an all day prayer convention or something.
DS was 5lb,15oz and nursed like a champion!! I was able to breastfeed him for a full year!
Coming up next - More about DS's first year and Baby #3!
And I just wanted to toss a quick update in here.
I have been having a lot of menstrual-type cramping all night. Maybe from the EPO that I rubbed on my cervix last night? I have an appointment with my OB at 9:40 today, so if she wants to check me -I'll be happy to let her.
I did have an appointment yesterday with my midwife. She is thrilled with how things look. Baby is really low, good heart rate, good everything. My midwife did offer to check me yesterday, but I declined since there really wasn't a need. But after these cramps, I'm curious to see what's going on down there -even though I know it really doesn't mean anything.
What a fun intro! Your business sounds like it was quite interesting although I do have to agree with pper....it would give me the heebies!
GL on your appt.
