Blah, sorry I haven't been on in a few days. I've only been getting like 5 mins on the computer at a time, and you know that's not enough time to do anything! But tonight I'm up with a bit of nausea and some mild cramping. And I can't go back to sleep...
So I did talk with my midwife about it. She tried to helped clear up some of the legal stuff that I wasn't sure about. Homebirth itself is not illegal. CNM are not illegal. But I believe what she said was DEM, CPM, and laymidwives are not legally allowed to practice. So she suggested that I ask OB what she thinks about homebirth, sort of feel her out, and go from there.
You know, I didn't even think that our pediatrician wouldn't want to see a baby simply based on where he/she is born. The thought never crossed my mind. So I guess I'm really glad he took it well.
All looks good with the baby. Perfect position -head down, face down, back to my left side. Just waiting on little one to come.
Had my 38week (37w,6d) OB appt. today.
First about the baby -Weight was down 1.5lbs. Not sure how, I have been indulging a bit. BP and everything was good. GBS came back negative. Doc says I'm not dilated at all, but when I checked myself (a couple of nights ago) I know I was at least a little open.
And I asked doc what she thought about home birth. She laughed and said "As a doctor, I say No!" And walked off, shaking her head. Well then! I'm not really sure where to go from here. I'd like to see her for my post-partum visits, but I don't think that would go over too well.
I'd like baby to come this weekend. So we'll be DTD a lot, to try and encourage baby. But in the end, its all up to baby. I ran out of RRL Tea and EPO and was hoping to not buy anymore. Well I still want to buy more RRL anyways because its good for postpartum too.
Eek, not the answer you wanted from her, I imagine. What an icky situation. Sounds like she's going to have a big fat problem with it. Have you decided what you're going to do about after care? What could she really say if you pulled the "oh no, the baby came so fast I couldn't leave home" routine?
I suppose the worst that could happen is she won't want to see me after birth.
sorry the doctor reacted so badly! what a tough situation. GL with everything.

An ob can't dismiss you after 36w without first providing you with care elsewhere. At this point there is nothing they can do really. I like the idea of feeling her out too.
Your laws are the same as ours.

The OB/MW/Hospital/Homebirth relationship sucks. I hate that in order to explore the MW/HB route you basically have to break your relationship with your OB/Hospital. I would much rather live somewhere where I could make an informed decision about my provider and birth plans without risking upsetting my OB. I mean in the case of a transfer I would LOVE to see my OB/GYN, but I don't know if he would come. It is a crappy system and I'm sorry you have to try and skirt around it!!! /Rant Fin
Does your MW do a PP exam? If so then you wouldn't have to worry about the PP exam with the OB.
Hope you are having a lovely weekend. Any good contractions today?
How ya doin' Mama? I haven't seen any posts from your since yesterday morning (can you say stalker? lol) Does that mean there is news?! Or just that you are taking some quiet time before baby comes? Hope you're having a great day!!
