welcome to your lodge!
Okay I'm back.
Thanks for the warm welcome, I really appreciate it.
My name is Sarah. My husband is Jeremy. We have two boys. Owen will be six at the end of April and Grey will be 4 soon after that.
I had Owen at a hospital affiliated birth center with an OB and wonderful nurses. His birth was pretty great for what it was. But there were still some things that I wanted to do differently next time. But when I got pregnant with Grey, it still took me a while to realize that home birth was something I could really consider for myself. I think from reading here and on MDC at the time, it made me realize what I wanted to do. I don't know a single person IRL who has birthed at home. I only have one friend who has birthed naturally. So it was hard to even bring up to my husband. It took quite a bit of talking about it, to convince him to try it my way. Luckily I was able to find midwife who could take me because I was already 30 weeks along at the time.
When I asked my OB if he could be my backup or even if he could stitch me up if I tore, he
said nope, not happening. Go to the ER and deal with whoever is there. I've since learned that at least in this part of Idaho there are very little, if any, doctor/midwife relationships. All the CNMs here deliver in hospitals only. It's been frustrating and disappointing.
Anyway, my first home birth went great. You can read the story in the link to my lodge that I posted previously.
This time around I told myself I would decide what kind of birth I wanted when the decision came to me. I felt like last time I just knew what was right. I wanted to wait for that feeling again this time so I didn't commit to anything until I was about 14 weeks and went to look at a birthing center I'd heard good things about. So I went and met with a midwife there. But I tink as soon as I told her I'd had a home birth, she knew I wouldn't be coming
there. She knew before I did what I wanted. Sure enough, as soon as I spoke with my midwife I knew it was right. I felt a little silly even considering another option.
Unfortunately, my midwife wasn't able to provide for me. She referred me to my current midwife who I absolutely love and feel totally comfortable with. I'm so excited!! We seem to have the same pregnancy and birth philosophies on pretty much everything so that is so nice.
I feel like I already know the answers to all the questions I ask. I'll see her and her assistant next Thursday for my 36 week appointment. The nice thing about home birthing here is that all your appointments are at home. It's pretty awesome.
I'm feeling okay. I am getting pretty darn uncomfortable already. These last few weeks are going to be long ones. All I have left on my to-do list is feeding the freezer. So I should be able to get that done. At least most of it.
Okay. I'm going to stop there because this is really long already. Here are some pictures just for fun.

I've been off the boards forever, but I'm so glad I came back in time to follow you're latest lodge!
Feel good, and I hope you find ways to stay comfortable as you get to the end of this part of the journey!!
I love the belly pic and your boys are gorgeous!
Welcome to your lodge!! :wavehello:
Hi Ayelet! I've thought about you several times in the last few months. I'm glad you're still checking in from time to time.
Thanks Heather and Chimmy.
sounds like you have a great relationship with your midwife. That's great
Awww your boys are so cute. I am glad you like your mw.
Love the pic and you have two very cute boys!
Just got done with my 36 week appointment. Everything went great and looks good. My blood pressure is still perfectly low and my urine came back fine. I'm supposed to spend some time on hands and knees to work on position.
We talked about billing the insurance company because neither me nor my midwife has ever done it. So we need to find out what paperwork we need and what everything should look like before we send it in. That should be fun. I'm so tired of dealing with my insurance company, but if they pay I'll do whatever it takes.
We talked about the birth and who would be there. What my preferences were, etc... Everything is so laid back, we're all just getting excited. Janice (mw) wanted to see my pool that just came in last week. She had never seen a fishy pool used, so she was curious what it looked like and how big it was.
I'm still feeling pretty good. I don't have any hip or back pain to speak of. I'm just hoping this baby decides to drop a bit soon. I'm getting tired of not being able to bend over or breath deeply.
