You know what *I'm* going to say...
CHECK, CHECK, CHECK!!!
I agree w/ your logic of being able to try some natural techniques to get the ball rolling if it isn't already. I say go for it! And then I want a full report ASAP
I responded already on the other thread, just wondering if you decided what you wanted to do!
Looking forward to an update later anyway!
Hey everyone! I'm in the biomed library at the hosp waiting for my appt. I dropped DD off at the sitter a little late and decided not to bother going in to work for an hour--I'll go in for the afternoon.
I've decided to get checked. My reasons for not getting checked were purely academic, whereas if I do get checked there are proactive things I can do with the information. If I'm no further ripened I will step up the natural ripening methods for sure. We haven't DTD the past 2 days.
DH is meeting me here for the appt, and then we'll have lunch. He has a mtg in northern Mass. this afternoon/evening--that's a little over 2hrs away. We'll see if the MW thinks he should skip it. He is usually 1-2+hrs away every night when he works, though he's sticking closer to home (within 30-90min) as I get closer to birthing time.
So...I'll be back after lunch. Wish me luck!
I'm the same as you -- philosophically, I'm a "no check until labor" gal too, but I decided to be checked last week. I'm sort of on a clock with work ...I just want the baby to arrive so that I can spend my full maternity leave with him/her. I have to be back at work by August 1st due to another co-workers wedding plans (which I totally understand). I'm not under any pressure for induction though, thankfully.
Anyway, I'm sending you dialation vibes!!!!!
Good luck Helina!!! waiting for the update.
lol, is it wierd that we are all stalking to read about your cervix?
Hope it went well!
I am 50% effaced, very soft, 1cm dilated, and baby is at -2 station!
It may not sound like much but I am soooo excited to know that my body is making progress on its own. I had one of my favorite MWs and she spent a good hour with us. (Gosh I hope she's on duty for my birthing!) The exam was fairly uncomfortable esp when she put her finger into my cervix and felt the baby's head.(!) She said the baby did not pull away/retreat when she touched it so that was a good sign too that it's staying put.
She offered to stretch & sweep but I declined. The exam was uncomfortable enough and I figured I may as well save that for next week if I still need it at that time.
It was a great appt. We spent a long time talking about my birth plans and what I could expect from the MWs and nurses. My last labor was so unusual--for most of the 4 days it was mainly DH & me working through induced, painful but unproductive ctx. I was asleep/epi'd during transition so the only real "labor support" I needed from a MW or nurse was during pushing. She explained that they are as hands-on (or -off) as needed/desired. It is standard hosp policy that no-one offers pain meds unless they are requested...and if requested by a NCB mama at 9cm, for example, the MW will get her through it. I still hadn't written up a birth plan but she felt it wasn't necessary. She wrote down a few specific things: delayed cord clamping, delayed weighing/measuring (sometimes there is an overzealous nurse saying, "don't you want to know what your baby weighs?"), etc. She also wrote, "really excited to use the hot tub!" Oh, and we want to plant a tree w/the placenta and she said the hosp will give it to us in a sealed bucket, no ziploc baggies required!
I asked specifically if they have a timeline for labor and she said absolutely not. If a mama's ctx seem to be slowing down or becoming less effective, they will suggest walking, positional changes, and encourage all kinds of other things rather than augmenting w/pit. It wouldn't even be unheard of to send a mama home if ctx really slowed down and progress seemed to have halted.
So overall I am just soooo excited! I'm going to keep doing the EPO, keep enlisting DH for his help, and remain active til the last minute. As for the spicy food (which I've eaten every day): I mentioned that it doesn't upset my stomach, and MW said that it probably wasn't going to do anything, then, because what we're really looking for is intestinal distress. I still enjoyed a very spicy and delicious Indian lunch w/DH, though!
Thanks for all the vibes --they seem to be working!
Oh, and I just noticed I need to find a new ticker that continues to count past 40wks!
