I'm sorry I've been MIA. Irene, while wonderful and amazing, is not the kind of baby who can be put down - ever. It has been quite an adjustment. Dave and I went to a babywearing class yesterday, which was great on a couple of levels. For one, we bought a wrap and a mei tei, both of which Irene really loved and will go far in freeing our hands and allowing us to resume some kind of life. For another, there were a couple of women there whose first babies were similar to Irene in their need for constant human contact, and it was great to hear that all the things I've been feeling and the tears I've been shedding are normal. They assured me it would get better around 3 or 4 months when she starts getting more interested in the world around her, even though she will probably have the need to be held a lot into toddlerhood.

Nursing has been going great. I actually nursed in public for the first time yesterday, a couple of times at the babywearing class, and then at Moe's during dinner.

Here are a few more pictures:

Aww, I know it may seem tough for now (Christian was a handful when he was born) but as you said, when she becomes more aware of her surroundings, she'll be more into exploring away from you. It sounds like baby-wearing gives you all what you need. I've never heard of a mei tei, what is it?

    Oh, and Irene is beautiful!

It's an Asian type of carrier:

The one I got is plain black, so Dave can wear it, too. He was not into wearing a pretty pattern.

Oh hun, I'm sorry your feeling so overwhelmed, my first baby and my second baby liked to be held. I loved wearing my second baby, I wasn't as smart with my first and he ended up in my arms a lot or in a swing. I'm really glad you some things for wearing her in, you will get your moneys worth for sure. She is sooooo cute, and you look great! I always love to see pics of Daddy time, it's a fun place to lay a tiny baby

Everyone is pretty evenly split, about half thinking she looks like me and half thinking she looks like Dave. The funny thing is, Dave and I pretty much look like we could be brother and sister, so I think she looks like both of us.

I am typing right now with her wrapped up on my chest. It is so nice to have both hands free!
