I had a doctor's appointment today, I saw one of the OBs. (They're trying to get me to meet everyone in the practice.) I have to say that I've been very happy with the OBs at this practice. The one I saw today went into medicine later in life, she was a middle school science teacher before that, so when I told her I was going to have to start teaching again in a week, she wrote me a note without me even asking. She told me teaching is too hard for me to be doing at 39 weeks. It was nice to have someone understand how physical and tiring teaching can be! So I'll go to Superintendent's Conference Day on Sept. 2, and then my maternity leave sub will start the year with the students on Sept. 3, which is best for the kids and best for me! Yay!
She also did an internal. I'm still closed up tight, but softening a little. She also assured me that baby is still locked in head down.
So, it was a good appointment. I picked up a nursing bra (after trying on about 15, I was only able to find one that would work) and a nursing tank afterwards. Any nursing bra suggestions? My problem is that I could only find ones in my cup size with bigger band sizes. I'm currently a very full 36DD, but unpregnant am a 34 band size. I tried two types of Bravadas and the ugly Medela, plus a ton of other kinds. The only one that worked was actually an underwire, which I don't want to wear all the time because I don't want clogged ducts. Anyone about my size have a bra they like?
Sounds like a good appt! Glad you got a note so you don't have to go back to work.
I can only wear a certain Mimi Maternity nursing bra. They are not underwire and they are super comfy. They are on sale, but it looks like they only have them in certain sizes, depending on the color.
Here's the link.
Yippee for not going back to work! That would have been exhausting.
I don't have nursing bra suggestions really. I'm also a 36DD and I pretty much hate all of my nursing bras. One tip though, when my milk came in, I had to send my sister to the store to buy me a bigger bra because I instantly shot up a cup size and was spilling out all over the place. So maybe don't invest a whole lot into bras right now and wait until you know for sure what size you'll need.
Your greyhounds are beautiful!!!
No advice on nursing bras, when i was pg with dd, I was a size 46D
Glad to hear your appt went well
I only buy bras at Nordstroms, they are a little spendy but worth the money! I was a 32DDD after DD was born, talk about hard to find I just used a regualr t-shirt bra (something soft with a little bit of shape) and pulled it down to nurse. I've done that with both kids and it's just what worked best for me. I never was able to find a nurseing bra I liked the fit of, even though they do have them in my size at Nordstorms. Many hospitals also have a shop kinda hidden in them somewhere that sells bras, you may ask! FYI I have never worn anything with out underwire and have never had a clogged duct, mind you I don't sleep in a bra either, but I've never had a problem. I do know that makeing sure your bra isn't too constrictive is important so I did go and get fitted after the kids where born. Good luck!
I had my last doula appointment yesterday (until the birth, that is.) She did a doppler, since the doppler at my doc's appointment was pretty faint and hard to find. The doula commented on how my baby never seems to be in the fetal positon, she's always got her arms and legs sprawled out everywhere. I have a feeling she is not going to like being swaddled.
I had a dream last night that Irene turned out to be a boy, and Dave and I had to figure out a boy's name at the last minute. The other dream that I remember was very realistic, I was sitting on the toilet, and someone pushed me over and was holding me down. I screamed and that woke me up.
Sorry I've been MIA, my feet have been really swollen and I've mostly been laying on the couch when I've been home.
I went in to Superintendent's Conference Day on Tuesday, and boy, did that make me glad I didn't have to go back beyond that. My feet were HUGE by the end of the day and my back was killing me! I think I am ready for this baby to come out.
I think I've been having occasional contractions, but I'm not really sure, which is frustrating. There have been a few times where, as I was walking, I would get pain and tightness along the bottom of my belly and where my thighs meet my hips, and a little around to my back, which made walking really difficult and painful, but that only happens when I'm walking, so I'm thinking not a contraction. I don't know. I have a midwife appointment today at 1, so I'll see what she thinks.
My doulas did their home visit the other day, now the next time I see them will be when I go into labor!
Glad to hear from you! Relaxing on the couch sounds good, I'm a little jealous. Those sound like "real" contractions, maybe just early ones but think of it this way, if you had 3 of them in the space of 15 minutes you would probably think "Hey, this is it!!" You're getting pretty close now, and I think it's time you are now officially being stalked, so make sure you keep us updated on a regular basis.
The midwife did an internal at my appointment today. I'm 100% effaced and about 2 cm. dialated. Baby is at -1 station, somewhere between OA and OT. She said I have some scarring on my cervix from a cone biopsy and freeze I had done years ago, and she massaged it a bit to get it to loosen up. Later in the day I lost at least some of my mucus plug! When I told my doula all this she said there is a good chance I won't have early labor and will go straight into active labor, which is what happened to my mom and is why her labors were so short. I'm pretty excited to have made good progress, even though I know I might not go into labor for another 2 weeks! I hope it will be much sooner than that!
