What a beautiful set of kids you have!! Congrats on the speedy recovery! I have a cold right now too. . .who knew you could get a cold in July! I hope you feel better soon!
Rinnah had her first pediatrician appointment today. She's at 8lbs 5oz today, so doing fairly well there. We realized that we never got a discharge weight since we left the hospital just a few hours after she was born. If I remember right, Ian took about two weeks to get back to his birth weight, so I think she's doing fine at just 6 oz below birthweight.
Her umbilical cord fell off when she was only three days old, which really surprised us. It looked okay until yesterday, when it started bleeding again and looking pretty irritated. They put some silver nitrate on it today to help close up one spot and said it should be fine in a few days.
She does still have a really large bruise. They told us it was probably from her quick delivery, but it goes almost from shoulder to shoulder and from her neck to about a third of the way down her back. It still looks about the same as it did when she was born, and they said that there's a chance it's a hemangioma (a kind of birthmark) instead of a bruise. It's dark blue just like a bruise but hasn't changed colors. They said if it's still there in a month or so, we may want to take her to a dermatologist since it's so big. I'm hoping it's just a bruise, and honestly that would make sense. My doula thought she was posterior when she came out, and between that and the very fast labor and short pushing time, it would make sense for her to have had kind of a rough trip.
As a side note, if she really was posterior and I really was having back labor, I have some serious doubts that I would even recognize labor next time around and some concerns about how fast my labor could be if baby is in the right position. But that's another worry for another day.
Overall she's doing great! She hadn't wanted to sleep much in her cradle but after she napped for over 2 hours alone in our bed DH commented that it probably still smelled like me. Last night I put my shirt in her cradle and laid her on top of it. I nursed her, then put her down at 10:45. She slept, in her cradle, until about 3:15, when I nursed her again. Went back down just after 4 and she slept until 6:40! I just can't believe what a good sleeper she is!! Ian didn't STTN until he was a year old and that was after some major sleep training, so this is just a gift from heaven. She's been having a good long awake period in the late morning and another in the early evening, and other than that she just nurses every few hours and sleeps. She is such an easy baby and after Ian, we can really be grateful for that!
