Awe!!! Thank you all!!! It's great to log on to my very first lodge!! WhooHoo!!
I'm scanning in a few pictures now ...I'll be back with an intro.
Jennie - I'm so glad you got to start it!! We've been through a lot together over the past two years, huh?
Welcome to your lodge, Julya!
Thanks for joining me on this journey!! I wouldn't be as prepared as I am this time without this wonderful board! I'm so happy to have found you!
My husband and I are high school sweethearts. We met and started dating when I was 17 years old, the summer before my senior year. He was 19 and a sophomore in college. We went to the same school. He was a football player and I was in flag corps (the girls who twirl the flags with the band at football halftime).
We both worked at Kroger together one summer. We flirted all summer long, and finally, in August, he asked me out. Our first date was the dollar movies and McDonalds! LOL! He made my heart flutter from the first time I saw him, and I couldn't be happier.
Two years later, he got down on one knee at the lake beside my parent's house ...pulled out a beautiful diamond ring ..and said "Julya, my whole life I've prayed that God would send me someone special. God sent me you. Will you marry me?" Wow! I completely cried b/c it was a total surprise! I was on cloud 9 for months! hehe!
We needed to wait until at least one of us got out of college and had a "real job" before getting married, so two years later ....we said our vows. (I still had one year of college left).
We got married at my church on May 26th, 2001. I was 20, he was 22. It was a big ole southern Baptist church wedding, and I loved every minute of it! I truely felt like Cinderella that day!
Me and my Dad (he passed away just after David was born ...I miss him. )
Full pic of dress:
We were young, married and broke ...so we lived in a tiny little postage stamp apartment on the "not so great" side of town. It was small, and cheap, but we were in Heaven! We were together, ya know?
A year later, we moved to a townhouse. I was trying to get my career going before having babies.
Once I signed my first contract with a big station, we started TTC. We had been married 4 years ...5 when David was born.
We wanted a baby for a long time! We got pregnant on our second cycle of TTC. We were both so happy!!
28 weeks with David
I was completely mainstream before having David, but while pregnant with him ...a lady at my Mom's church died after having an epidural. The woman was older, she'd wanted a baby for a long time, it was her first baby. She and her husband had only been married about a year. She got a severe headache after her epi ....later, they found out she got an infection in her spine and there was nothing the hospital could do to help. Now, her husband is raising their little one alone. So ...that shook me up, and made me start researching NCB.
I didn't know about this board at the time, but I was active on my birth board. I did some research on my own, and took NCB classes through the local birth center. I read some books ....but we still decided to deliver in the hosptial. My Mom had a horrible childbirth story with me (she and I both almost died), so that greatly influenced me. Part of me wanted to go to the birth center, but the story I knew of my own birth scared me. So, we went to the hospital.
David was born early, at 36 weeks. We didn't expect that because all the women in my family went late ...usually by two weeks. David was born on the day of his baby shower! LOL!
His birth was beautiful. It wasn't exactly what I planned, but still beautiful and spiritual in every way. I won't recount the entire story here ...but let's just say I was scared going in since he was pre-term and I couldn't calm down. I didn't have a doula, Dh was scared too ...all that tension lead to painful contractions, so I got the epidural. It was actually very nice, however it slowed labor -- lead to pitocen -- lead to baby being in distress b/c contractions were too powerful for him -- lead to an internal monitor (screws in baby's head) -- but finally, a vaginal birth (with episiotomy).
I'll NEVER forget the moment he was born!! It was magical!! I just ...wow ...words cannot describe the moment a baby is born! It's sooooo spiritual/beautiful/of another world! Dh and I both, we were in that world together! Of course, we forgot to take pictures of that exact moment! LOL! It's okay though because it's all in my memory. I actually think pausing to take pictures would have messed it up, but this time I may ask someone else to take some pics for us in the background.
In the year after David was born, I lost both my Dad and my grandma. My Dad passed away from colon cancer when David was 5 months old. I was very close to my Dad, so that was hard.
9 months later, my grandmother (who was very youthful) died in a car crash. My little brother (age 14) was in the car as well. He has his seatbelt on; she did not. He walked away with only one scratch. She was thrown into the backseat ...body broken. THAT was hard. Besides my Dad, I was closest to my grandma. I also worried about my brother ...being so young and just loosing his Dad.
Grandma (Mimi) is on the left:
We've had some healing time since then, but I still miss them both.
When David was about 18 months old, we decided we wanted to TTC again. David loves little ones, and this would be good timing for us, so we went for it. Again, we got pregnant on our second cycle of trying.
We are being surprised on the gender, but David says he wants a "baby apple", so that's where the nickname comes from. LOL!
This time, I signed up at the birth center from day one. I *knew* after David's birth that I wanted to do all in my power to have a natural childbirth. I also wanted a water birth/to be able to eat/move ...all without fighting hosptial policy. I was super happy when Dh agreed!! Actually, he's most excited about being able to come home so soon after the birth. He didn't want us to be away from David too long.

Finally, I have to share a picture of my little monkey ...David, age two. This is from his birthday. He is all excited about getting his favortie thing: dinosaurs!
Thanks for looking/reading!! I know it's a long intro ....it's been a long journey!
I love it! Congrats on your lodge and thank you for such a great intro. I am thrilled to watch you go through this. (And can't wait to find out the sex!)
Congratulations on your lodge!!! Woot woot!
